Nooooo! This is not happening. Why??? I’ve finally reached the volume that would tell me all I wanted to know about Shoko Makinohara, that strange figure that kept appearing out of nowhere to help Sakuta, the one with the same name as little Shoko, a girl that clearly had no idea who Sakuta was, it was the mystery of the century! And oh boy, is this also the worst bout of Adolescence Syndrome I’ve seen. Even Futaba was surprised and it takes a lot to surprise her. But it all made sense! It was fantastic…
Until I started wondering what would make this Syndrome disappear, because it was bad, really bad. And then… oh dear, the revelation. I just can’t. It’s just cruel no matter the outcome, and that ending was just so brutal! I need the next book. Things can’t end like this.

was enjoying the first half despite the looming issue of death, i was hopeful, but i did not expect this to go dark and emotional by the second half, i had to pause and stare at the ether for awhile before playing it again. But then the twist just keeps coming, nabuhay, namatay mejo i got confused :,) but a good movie all in all, in the vein of your name and mirai.

El amor se manifiesta de muchas maneras y aunque a veces duele, siempre nos dará la sensación de que estamos vivos.
A través de este libro profundizamos en el síndrome de la adolescencia de la pequeña Shouko, el cual se me hace de los mejores de la saga.
Shouko tiene un profundo miedo al futuro debido a su enfermedad la cual no le dejaría ni llegar soñar con siquiera ingresar a la preparatoria, debido a esto, ella comienza desesperadamente a tratar de detener el tiempo, ella negó su propio futuro y como consecuencia, irónicamente, llego a un futuro donde puede seguir viviendo, pero... A cuesta de la vida de la persona que a ella más le importaba. Por esto, decide viajar al pasado en los momento que su persona más importante necesita ayuda y al mismo tiempo, en los momentos donde ella misma negó su propio futuro, con la intención de devolver la vida que a ella le permitió llegar al mañana.
Sin duda alguna, Shouko es un personaje sumamente trágico quien, por su condición, se le fue arrebatado cruelmente un derecho humano tan fundamental como lo puede ser soñar con un futuro. De este manera ella, lejos de ser egoísta, se sintió sumamente culpable por comprometer a las personas que la apreciaban con tan desafortunada situación; todo el tiempo se disculpaba con sus padres o el personal del hospital y se reprimía con sus deseos para no poner triste a los adultos, en pocas palabras, se negó a si misma. Es cuando Sakuta le enseña a ella las 3 palabras con más significado en toda la saga "Gracias", "Buen trabajo" y "Te quiero" que ella comienza a cambiar y darse su propia importancia, esto se manifiesta en cosas tan pequeñas como pedirle permiso a sus padres de quedarse con Hayate, hasta un momento sumamente hermoso y significativo como puede ser manifestar las ganas de vivir.
Shouko, cuando le hacen el trasplante de corazón, obviamente se siente profundamente feliz con la posibilidad de poder seguir viviendo pero, desafortunadamente, se entera a quien le debía la nueva vida que tenia. De esta manera decide viajar al pasado para evitar que Sakuta sufra el accidente de tráfico, así esto signifique que deba dar su vida para lograrlo o más acertadamente, regresarsela porque ella ama profundamente a Sakuta pues el le enseño a vivir.
Shouko se me hace un personaje excelente, lleno de carisma y matices que inevitablemente hace que le agarres cariño y, cómo no, sufras más. Partiendo de la exploración de sus sentimientos, es sumamente interesante ver como lidia con una vida tan trágica a los largo de su desarrollo. En este punto, su desarrollo, vemos algo frecuente a lo largo de los volúmenes, la negación del propio ser o la identidad, en esta ocasión se nos presenta una Shouko que pasa de no querer hacer sentir mal a los demás, así sea negándose a si misma, a una persona que es capaz de decir abiertamente lo que quiere y siendo firme en sus desiciones. También el empleo de Shouko como un elemento para crear una tensión constante y sofocante tanto para el protagonista como para el lector me parece magnífico, todo el tiempo sabes que el tiempo avanza pero ruegas por que se detenga, es impotente y cruel qué el antagonista de este arco sea el tiempo mismo.
Ahora hablemos un poco de Sakuta:
Este volumen tiene un dilema muy claro y difícil. En esta ocasión, como en el anterior volumen, Sakuta esta directamente implicado en la ecuación del síndrome de la adolescencia y le hace enfrentar probablemente la decisión más complicada para cualquier ser humano ¿Le entregarías tu futuro a alguien más? ¿Podrías seguir viviendo con la culpa de haber decidido no salvar a alguien a pesar de ser el único que podría? El síndrome en esta ocasión pone en cuestión el valor moral y la importancia de la vida a Sakuta.
La parte que más disfruté de este libro fue la introspección tan directa a los sentimientos y pensamientos de Sakuta, tenemos la oportunidad de verlo cuestionarse qué es lo más importante para el, qué espera del futuro y, sobre todo, como figuran sus seres queridos en un mundo con o sin el.
Los silencios largos en la conversación con Futaba o el momento donde Mai quiere llevar a Sakuta lo más lejos posible para mantenerlo con vida no hacen más que mortificar más la decisión y darle unos matices y contrastes que hace que, sin importar lo que elija Sakuta, siempre sabrá amargo.
Me encanta el hincapié en la decisión de Sakuta y la constante ansiedad de preguntarse si lo que decidimos es lo mejor, al final no hay buenas o malas decisiones si no sólo eso, decisiones.
Para finalizar, el cliff hanger de Mai me hubiera destrozado sin duda si no hubiera visto la peli antes. En este volumen también se pone mucho el el foco qué Mai adora a Sakuta con todo su ser, cosa que me enternece mucho, y el hecho que lo ame tanto que esta completamente dispuesta a dar su propia vida por él crea un paralelismo gigante con Shouko, ambas aman tanto a Sakuta no quieren un futuro donde el no este. Un volumen precioso que sin duda te hace sentir y reflexionar muchísimo acerca de la vida y del dilema en cuestión.

Once again, another masterpiece in the Rascal series.
I was really interested in this one since I loved the movie and Shouko's arc is easily my favorite in the series. I was surprised when I found out that the movie was actually two light novels put into one, and that the dramatic middle section of the film was actually the end of this book. I couldn't even imagine being a reader at the time and seeing an ending like that, dear god. And it's done so fantastically well.
It was incredibly interesting seeing the differences between the film and the novel here, even more so than usual. They changed some events around to give the anime a satisfying ending, while still leaving space open for the movie afterwards. I personally believe that the book's motion of events feels more fluid and natural than the film's, but both work in their own ways.
Where I think the book excels over the film is with the portrayal of Sakuta's inner thoughts. This gave so much more depth to him and made his decision carry much more weight, where as in the film, his choice felt like something he decided in the moment. Seeing him suffer for days on end, trying to figure out how to deal with the fact that he just learned something he never should have is done beautifully here.
However, I do believe the film wins over in overall presentation. While I loved the ending of the book, the film just makes that final scene hit so, so much harder. The editing of that scene, music, and overall directing make it easily one of my my personally favorite moments of the entire series. So I guess it makes sense that the written version of it just doesn't match up as much as I would have wanted it to. Though as it is, it is still fantastic.

El mejor libro de toda la historia.
Todo lo que hemos leído hasta ahora nos va a servir para entender mejor el problema que se presenta en este volumen.
Y la respuestas a ¿Quien es de verdad Shouko? y ¿Por qué las heridas en el pecho de Sakuta?
Leemos por primeras ves a una Rio sentimental, cero ruda a Sakuta.
Mai siempre fue mi personaje favorito desde el inicio del libro. Sin embargo, aunque sigue en mi top de personajes, no solo en esta historia sino en gran parte de los animes, mangas, novelas ligeras, la verdad es que Shouko se ha hecho mi personaje favoritocon todas las de la ley.
Desde el inicio de la historia que es la única que hace repelar a Mai, se sabe que es un personaje especial. Con esto y a lo largo de la historia, tanto eventos con Shouko niña, como Shouko adulta hacen que se vuelva mi personaje favorito. Siento yo, que aunque es claro que Sakuta no va a cambiar y Mai, Shouko siempre esta un paso adelante de Mai. Aun y con ese final que tiene este libro. Ya que lo que hizo Mai al final, era el plan de Shouko desde un inicio, y siempre con buena cara aun sabiendo lo que se venía.
Sin tomar en cuenta lo que nos cuentan en libros pasados y en este que es Shouko la que salva a Sakuta cuando Kaede sufre de bullying y también es ella que lo ayuda cuando su hermana recupera la memoria. También como dice Sakuta es ella su modelo a seguir.
También podemos ver por lo que nos dice Sakuta, desde la primera vez que conoció a Shouko ella no planeaba solo ayudarlo con los problemas de su hermana, sino que ya tenía planeado todo lo que pasa en este volumen desde entonces.
Una actuación implacable de Shouko hasta el final. Lástima que al final Sakuta se dio cuenta de su plan.

I have to admit I do not recall the movie very well. I only saw it once and was half asleep. But after the end of book 5 I was curious how the next novel was going to go because of the ending of season 1 of the anime. Without going into big spoilers I'll just say -- it works.
This volume has everything you want from a Rascal book (and then some). Of course this one is largely about Shouko Makinohara, Sakuta's first love and how that affects his relationship with Mai. Not to mention Rio, Kaede, Kunimi and more.
I loved it. I truly fought to put it down to do other things I HAD to do today -- still managing to finish it. But if you thought the end of book 5 left you hanging on a cliff -- this ending throws you OFF the cliff with a bungee cord tied to you but you're not sure if it is tied off at the top. If Amazon is to believed, the next one comes out in APRIL. Much like Inigo Montoya, "I hate waiting".

a few things in the early chapters got moved around in the anime in order to give the first season of the anime a satisfying ending, and i definitely like how things are lined up better in the light novel now that i've read it.
i was a bit surprised that the ending (which i knew was coming) didn't make me cry. the book made me cry several times, don't get me wrong. but the ending itself didn't. what a RUDE cliffhanger, though. i'm glad i already know what happens thanks to the anime.
of course, it's likely the early chapters of the next book are gonna make me cry a hell of a lot more than the ending of this one. as rude as that cliffhanger would've been if i didn't already know what happens, it's probably the emotional fallout that's really going to get me.

Cried bitter tears. This one hit me harder than I thought it might.
The stakes have increased to tremendous levels, for everyone involved, and the characters' emotional states are authentically delivered. So much so that I had trouble clearing my mind to actually sleep, once things hit the fan.
This volume builds on everything before it, the little things and the big plot points.
Those shared bonds? They count for something.

*Listened to the audiobook
Man, what a wild finish! This book was full of touching moments and a heartfelt story that ends with one heck of a cliffhanger. This series continues to exceed my expectations and is becoming one of my favorites. All of the characters are enjoyable and the author does a good job keeping them relevant and giving them meaningful time. Very excited to see how this continues in the next volume.

Beautiful heartbreaking story
Interesting plot, well-written characters, cute illustrations. I really love all the novels in this series. A slice-of-life-y love story with supernatural/psychological fantasy elements, and sciencey you've thrown in the mix.

What a cliffhanger.
This book mostly focuses on paying off previously established plot points, moreso than other books in the series with some unexpected twists. A very emotional novel, can't wait for the next in the series!

Never finished. Never found interest of picking it back up. Tried many attempts to get back, but never got me sucked in as the other books. So just decided to drop it. Really enjoyed the movie of this arc though.

Another excellent entry in the Rascal series of light novels. Sakuta and Mai are such a great couple and their banter is always entertaining. I can't give much about the story away but this time it revolves around Sakuta's first love, the enigmatic Shouko and her particular Adolescence Syndrome.

You know what, screw you author. This is such a fantastic and heartbreaking book I couldn't put it down and basically read the entire thing in less than two hours just because I couldn't put it down. It was by far some of the best characterization that I have seen in a while. And good God that ending. I hate cliffhangers and let me tell you if I didn't have the next book already in my Kindle ready to go, I would have been both blind with rage and hollow with depression.

I'm glad I'm binge reading because I would NOT have been able to handle that cliffhanger. Didn't even soften it with an author's afterword.
