The most heartbreaking decision a mother could make…the Sunday Times bestseller is back with an emotional story that will tug on the heartstrings.

BEREFT Safe on the Kent coast, Glenda finally has the life she dreamed of. But without Johnnie, she’s a broken woman. Will she ever see her baby again? And will she ever be able to escape the fearsome shadow of Harry after all?
I loved the first half of this book - gritty, fast paced, just couldn't put it down and then suddenly the second half was totally different. Fast forward 20yrs, the 2 lovely main characters are no more. Unfinished bits (why was Ross so anti) how did the second Purvis brother die? incest - but that was ok in the end! almost like a second person finished this book off - very strange.
I can honestly say I never get tired of reading books by Kitty Neale and this one was another fabulous read. The story starts in the late 40's and again like her other books is set in Battersea and Kent. Right from the start I was pulled right into the story and didn't want to put it down. I highly recommend this book if you're a fan of sagas. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. I voluntarily reviewed this book and my opinion is entirely my own.
A Mother’s Sacrifice What a brilliant, wonderful, amazing book. Really enjoyed this book from start to finish. Will certainly be looking out for more from Kitty Neale. Highly recommended. Storytelling at it's best.

OMG A Mothers Sarifice was just brilliant, i went through so many emotions reading it, all the way through the story there was something happening that made me not want to put my kindle down!! I absolutely love Kitty Neale's style of writing, it is just brilliant!!!
Many thanks to Netgallery and the publishers for this arc in exchange for a review
Didn't really enjoy this at all. Violent male characters, incest, deaths.....all a bit far fetched for a woman and daughter to have so much bad luck? The characters grated on my nerves! Shame, because I borrowed it from the library on its opening reviews. But don't let me put you off, there are plenty of readers who lived it, just not my cup of tea.

was a waste of time. second half was highly disappointing n stretchy. although the narration is upto mark, but the storyline is big fail.wont recommend to anyone.
Kitty Neale is one of my all time favourite authors. Again Kitty has delivered a great book with strong characters set in a realistic background. Great story line which keeps the reader entertained. I would love to see a sequel to this book .
This was my first book by Kitty Neale and really enjoyed it.
The first half of the book was set in 1947 and moved on to twenty years later in 1967.
A sad story about abuse, loss and sacrifice.
Some lovely realistic characters such as Glenda, Helen and Jackie.
If I could rate A Mother’s Sacrifice in two parts, I would give 5* for the first half and 4* for the second half. At times it seemed like two different books to me and I loved the first half more.
I loved Kitty Neale’s style of writing and will definitely be reading more from this author.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for providing a copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This saga set after the Second World War, is pretty average. Harry and Glenda are married, they have a baby son named Jonnie. Harry is a bully with a jealous temper. Glenda is taken to hospital after a beating from Harry. She meets gentle porter Frank and they run away together. Glenda has to leave Jonnie behind which breaks her heart. Later on Glenda falls pregnant with Polly and the book then tells of Polly's story.
Just finished reading this brilliant book...... From start to finish it was exciting ..... I had tears in my eyes by the time I got to the last page. Thank you Kitty Neale
I have read a few Kitty Neale books and this one did not disappoint. I loved all the characters and it was easy to read and flowed nicely. I was not expecting Part 2 and have to say I enjoyed the twists and turns and it did make me cry at one point when Polly is all alone. It was an enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed reading this book and even though it was a very sad painful story I just had to keep reading it. It was my first Kitty Neale book and I will be looking at some of her other novels.
I picked this up at a charity shop, for the simple reason that it was 10 books for £1.
I made it about 100 pages in before stopping due to the poor standard.
There's no subtlety or nuance to any of the characters, they're all completely one dimensional and the dialogue feels wholly unrealistic.
My aunt has a thing where she loves any movie or TV show where a woman is wronged or abused in some fashion and ends up escaping and/or getting even. It could be as generic and badly acted as possible and she'd still be enthralled. I'm not convinced that she's read a book since leaving school, but if she ever took such a notion then this would be an ideal choice.
I may try to pawn this off on one of my stupider female relatives, in the hope that it excuses me from having to buy them a present.
“A Mother’s Sacrifice” is a decent book, but it lacked some finesse. The plot was intriguing and I felt compelled to continue reading, however the writing felt rushed. A lot happened in the space of a fairly short novel which made it unrealistic in places for me. Especially when it came to characters overcoming trauma, it seemed to only take a few paragraphs before they were fine again.
This is the second novel I have read by Kitty Neale and I will continue to read others that I have on my shelf - so I would recommend this book. However, to me, they are more of a quick ‘easy read’ compared to the books I would usually read. Good plot, but Neale could do with some tips for better writing in my opinion.
The postwar setting in Battersea is well created and you can picture yourself on its streets and in the homes of the characters. The accepted standards for family and morality in 1947 are well conveyed and you feel a connection with all the characters, good and bad. The story jumps neatly 20 years on. The characters have moved on and you feel just as engaged. The story line keeps you turning the pages. A good read.
This Author, Kitty Nepalese is new to me, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. It has been written in the time of my whole life so I can relate to the times. It was written so well, women had problems then that we don’t have in the 21 st century. Women are treated mostly with the respect they deserve. I can certainly recommend reading Kitty Neale’s writing. I will be following her on Kindle now.
A gritty drama which also touches on incest and is a bit conflicting at times. I loved the first half of the book the loss of 2 main lovely characters was missed for the 2nd part. It covers a period of around 20 years from the 1940s-60s.
I never got bored while reading this book. This book is sooo good and it's my most annotated book. The 2nd part was like very confusing because its a whole different pov but it's not boring. this is a good one
I thought the first half of the book was interesting, but when the main character died and her children got together and then had a baby together. Also the abusive husband's ending was more positive than poor Glenda or Polly
