This book, one of the Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Books, explores the Red Planet. Learn about the ancient astronomers, the planet’s features, its moons, and much more. Why do scientists search for water on the red planet? Were there ever people living on Mars?
Readers can see close-up photographs of the planet, learn about the Martian rovers, and explore the questions-and-answers section.
A perfect volume for students interested in space science, space exploration, and the solar system.
This book was good. I was disappointed about how they talked about life possibly being on Mars. Overall, this book was a great book. I liked how they sent rovers to Mars to explore. I recommend this book.

Summary: This is an informative, nonfiction picture book about the planet Mars. Not only does it contain facts about the landform descriptions, atmosphere, polar ice caps, craters/canyons, water on the site, ect., it features a lot about the founding of Mars and how it was discovered and first inhabited by rovers we created. One thing that I learned from this is that there are volcaneos on Mars, and there is a section that talks about this. It talks about why it is called the Red Planet and how it was a part of the Space Age. There are also pieces of information from Astronomers.
My Thoughts: This book had so much information that at times it was a little bit overwhelming. What did offset this though was the amount of pictures that were sprinkled throughout the information that made it easier to navigate and interact with. There were a lot of diagrams that i found useful, and I think this would be perfect for someone who was doing a project on Mars.
Classroom Usage: I think that this would be good for a unit about planets. I would have this book out among other books that discussed in detail all of the other planets and have the students each get into groups based on what planet interested them the most. From here they would do a group project and incorporate information found from the book.
