A cute rhyming story with the Shoe-la-la girls going to buy hats. This is a fun book for girls with a cute ending. I would buy for my school library. Recommended for Grades K-2.
This book is the reason I don’t want to let my toddler choose her own books at the library. It’s about shopping for hats? And then having tea with moms who look just like you. Barf.
First sentence: Emily, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Claire! What is going on up there?
Premise/plot: Readers first met Emily, Ashley, Kaitlyn, and Claire in Shoe-la-la! These four friends are back playing together and playing dress up in Hats Off To You. This time, the four are CRAZY about hats. This one, like Shoe-la-la! is written in rhyme.
Oo-la-la! This hat's tres chic. Mine was made in Mozambique. Funky hat to match my shoes. I like girly curlicues.
My thoughts: I really LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE LeUyen Pham. I adore her illustrations. Karen Beaumont is more hit or miss with me. But this time I found her work DELIGHTFUL. True this is a very girly-girl book. Any book with a covered in glitter can fairly be called girly-girl in my opinion. But I like it all the same in spite of the glitter. I really like the WHY of this one. Very sweet! (The girls are planning a surprise mother-daughter tea party! And they're dressing up for it, of course.)

Four friends, Emily, Ashley, Kaitlyn, and Claire, are sifting through trunks and boxes in the attic for just the right outfit for a fun surprise they have planned. But, then they go out to find just the right hat. After picking out just the right one, they decorate and embellish each one just right. It turns out that they are surprising their mothers with this gift at their Mother-Daughter tea! Written in rhyme and beautifully illustrated (in lots of pinks and purples) this book will surely be a hit with girls of all ages. The diversity of the group of friends is a nice touch, as is the variety of hats they each like. Young readers will surely want to decorate their own hats after reading this book. Also good as a Mother’s Day read-aloud.
Hats Off to You! by Karen Beaumont is a colorfully illustrated rhyming book. I feel this book is mostly aimed at young girls. It is a rhyming book about hats, it ties together in the end by saying the kids are taking off their hats and thanking their moms for everything they do for them. The illustrations in this book is what made it enjoyable for me. There are some challenging words in this book for younger kids. Was not one of my favorite children's books, but had some cute moments in it.
Emily, Ashley, Kaitlyn, and Claire search for the perfect hats for their moms in this winning sequel to the bestselling Shoe- La-La! Let's all go to Chez Chapeaux! Hats and more piled high. Which hats do we want to try? There are hats with flowers, stripes, and bells. And hats with feathers, stars, and shells. But which ones will they choose to buy? Pink or purple, red or white? We think these will be just right The girls invite you to dress up, too! Put on your favorite hat and join the fun as they unveil a very special mother-daughter surprise. From the New York Times bestelling talent Karen Beaumont and LeUyen Pham comes a sweet sequel to share for Mother's Day or any day.
I found this book to a lot cuter and more enjoyable than I thought it was going to be based on the cover. My toddler picked it out at the library.
The story was cute of the girls looking for hats for themselves and trying on different ones. The girls' faces reminded me a bit of older Disney princesses (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty). The colors were engaging.
I would recommend this book to young children and we will be looking for the author's other work at the library.
I really like this book, especially because it has a very sweet ending, but I wish we could have a picture book about girls that didn't center around clothes. Maybe science, or adventure, or literally anything except clothes.
I love LeUyen Phan's illustration style (I loved her work in "Real Friends" so much!). This was darling with adorable rhyming text as girls try on a bunch of different hats, and end up inviting their mom's to a special mommy/daughter party. So cute!
Welcome to Chez Chapeaux for the allure of hats to "glam" up your look. Unforced rhymes tell the story of Emily, Ashley, Kaitlyn and Claire who plan a tea party for their moms replete with invites and a fashion show of sorts. Great for AMERICAN GIRL fans.
four girls go to a hat fair. The illustrations were vibrant and creative. I enjoyed the hats from different countries. I like the dog. This was okay for a rhyming book. The surprise ending was very sweet and made me like it more.
Hat-happy girls prepare La-Tea-Da for their mothers and give readers some crafty ideas for hat making; energetic rhyme scheme with interesting illustrations.
A delightful rhyming story about four little girls searching for just the right hats for a surprise they have planned for their mothers. Beautiful illustrations.
This is a cute little story that tells the tale of 5 little girls who are searching for hats to wear to their surprise mother daughter tea party. I would read this in a K-3rd-grade classroom.
We love Shoe-La-La and I can't believe it took us so long to read this one. We all agreed it's just as good! LeUyen Phan is one of our favorite illustrators and Beaumont's rhymes are a lot of fun.
Four besties spend the day searching for the best hats to wear for a special gathering later in the afternoon. This rhyming tale shows off how many different hats Chez Chapeaux has to offer.
