How do you love again when your heart is dead? How do you know when it’s time to let go?
Damien’s kicked about the country these past three years. No pack. No purpose. No reason to keep on living. When an old friend, Kane Sinclair, asks for his help, he agrees and heads to Chicago. After all, what does he have to lose?
Sam’s grown up on the streets. Raised to be an Alpha, she’s strong and independent. Her duty to her pack rules her every move. As much as it irks her, she finds herself looking for help when Sinclair threatens to take over her territory. With the pack’s future at stake, does she dare gamble on a rogue?
Can a rogue let go of his past and dare to face the future? Are strength and duty enough to pave the road to redemption?
Nicky Charles is an independent writer/publisher who became an author quite by accident. She always saw herself as a ‘reader not a writer’ and can thank—or blame, depending on the day—her friend/editor and fellow author, Jan Gordon, for the career she now finds herself immersed in. The tale goes something like this:
In January of 2009, Nicky penned a fanfiction for an old TV series, “Scarecrow and Mrs. King”, and soon became ‘hooked’ on story telling. She joined a fan-based group for the show and through there met Jan Gordon. It was an idle comment made by Jan during a review of Black Silk (Jan’s newly published book) that inspired Nicky to write her first original story. Over the course of the next two months, she hastily scribbled down a suspense driven romance entitled Forever In Time and presented it to the world in August of 2009. Soon after, she wrote The Mating, a paranormal romance and followed it up with The Keeping and The Finding. The three stories formed a loose paranormal trilogy called The Law of the Lycans. Nicky continues to expand the Lycan series and has a long list of possible plots waiting in the wings.
Nicky works full-time and writes in her off-hours, few though they may be! In the next few years she hopes to retire from her day job and concentrate more of her energy on her new passion of writing.
When she writes, Nicky sees the story unfolding in her head like a movie and tries to include enough detail so that readers can ‘see’ the story just as she does. The sights, sounds, smells and sensations of a scene are almost as important to her as the actual plot.
Creating main characters that are ‘real’ is also something she strives for. Nicky tries to make each character different, to give them an interesting back story, to make their actions and feelings logical and to hopefully make the reader actually care what happens to the people in the story.
Nicky lives in Canada and tries to stick to Canadian spelling and punctuation in her work, in support of her country. She is an avid supporter of animal shelters, nature conservancy, food banks and a variety of other charities. Currently she has two ‘inside’ cats and one official ‘outside’ cat though a number of strays seem to take up residence in her garden each year.
When not writing, Nicky enjoys reading – though she often bemoans that she seldom has time for it any more. Her favourite authors are Elizabeth Peters, S.C. Stephen and Cherise Sinclair. She also enjoys spending time out in nature, gardening, taking day trips and eating dark chocolate.
Each time I read one of these books my husband gives me the “good lord you’re a dirty pervert” look and asks why I’m reading werewolf porn instead of a "real" book. Because duh, that’s why:
Werewolves are hot. Period.
The rational, intelligent part of my brain knows I shouldn’t like reading these books – I mean the characters have ongoing dialogue with their “inner wolves” for Christ's sake. It’s laughable . . . and I can’t get enough. This series is my guilty pleasure and I have no problem admitting it.
I was gifted a copy of this latest book in the Law of the Lycans series for a fair and honest review.
I was eagerly awaiting this latest book as I couldn't imagine where the series was going next. Having come to know and love all of the characters it was almost like waiting for that long awaited letter home from a loved one.
Damien is at first glance cold, tough and uncaring. Hidden behind his cold exterior is a heart that has been crushed and love is something he feels is best left in the past. Will things change when a new woman comes on the scene?
Enter Sam. Not your typical pretty girl but rather a woman who has things to prove to others seemingly without any apologies or excuses. Her life is hard and living isn't easy. Love is in short supply in her life but she knows her place so gives it little thought.
Telling you more would rob you of an amazing reading experience. I will allow you to travel with them through darkness, need, history and longing.
Picking up this book you will want to devour it in one reading. Perhaps you will even do as I did and not put the book down. Reading throughout the night with your emotions moving quickly and deeply. Tears one moment and laughing out loud to yourself the next. The emotional roller coaster consumes you and drags you ever deeper.
A must read - no doubt - an easy five stars - Nicky Charles once again shows that she is one very talented writer who can bring characters to light, even when they prefer to hide in the darkness.
I received a complimentary copy for an honest review.
Do you like action? Suspense? Conflict - physical and emotional? Hot steamy scenes? Then this book is for you!
The Road to Redemption, will have you laughing, crying and leave you begging for more. I couldn't get enough of Sam or Damien. Nicky Charles has the ability to plonk you right in her world. You feel the pain, hope and happiness Damien and Sam experience.
For any Nicky Charles fans, you won't be able to put this baby down.
I was given complimentary copy of Road to Redemption for an honest review and it is my pleasure to give one so here it is. Nicky Charles proves to us again that she is a talented writer with a devotion to giving her fans lovable, sexy and very real characters.
You wont be able to put this book down once you begin. From fight scenes to steamy love scenes, arguments to reconciliation. There are spy's, werewolves and a psychedelic witch all conspiring to keep your eyes glued to the pages.
The story spans the American continent and even has you visiting Canada. The roller-coaster of emotion that Nicky portrays in the 6th book of the Law Of The Lycans will have you angry at the arrogance of revisited characters but your heart breaking as the emotional road Damien and Sam journey gets more challenging.
I love it when a book makes me laugh out loud, curse or even cry. This book did all three and much more. My heart pounded as Sam stood waiting to prove her strength and loyalty. I held my breath when Damien walked away not noticing the gift Sam had given him.
The story twist and turns into a fierce conclusion. The plot keep you guessing right to the end of the book...... and beyond.
Nicky is a master in paranormal romance! An this latest book is nothing short of perfect!!! Full of action suspense adorable stubborn werewolves (ahem Damien). You will be on the edge of your seat till the very end!!!
didn't like the story much....not that good as the earlier ones......loose plot!!......no "what would happen next" feeling......the dilemma was just too much and even the passion between damien and sam was not completely explored...disappointed
I love these Law often Lycan books. From the first written word in each book to the last an incredible read. I was so happy to finally see Damien move forward and find peace.
Three years hasn't lessened the pain, though the nightmares aren't as frequent, they are as debilitating. Still emotionally and mentally healing from the fire that took his family, Damien Masterson, agrees to an assignment for Kane. The assignment: Investigate the Chicago pack and report back the best way to absorb them.
Acting Alpha Sam Harper has been running the pack since her grandfather really isn't in any shape. Hiring an experienced rogue to temporarily act as beta to her alpha seems to be a good idea to send Kane's representative back north with his tail between his legs when he shows up.
Circumstances change and Damien's assignment becomes an infiltration assignment instead. There's one small problem. Both Damien and Sam are looking at each other as potential mates. Damien won't let go of his memories of Beth ad Sam doesn't understand why.
Helping to beef up the story is rogue, Dante Esparza. Damien's bringing all those things bad element to the party by blackmailing everyone he can, bullying and fighting those he can and evading Damien when it suits him. Kane and Elise have issues over the amount of time they aren't spending together and life in the Chicago pack.
I liked but didn't love this outing for at least half the read. I was as exhausted as Elise going through their discord. The Chicago pack life was just filler for my taste and Dante did a successful jack-in-the box the way he kept popping up to torment his victims. Damien is a favorite for this reader and I wanted him back. I understood his melancholy but wanted him to get over it already.
I liked Sam and loved Damien and could have liked them together but I didn't necessarily buy their chemistry. It felt more like a lack of possibilities than a true draw. Given the givens there was only one path for this read though the additional threads were used to their advantage to try to give the read additional focus.
This gets 4.5 stars from me for being entertaining even though it did not push over the top. The characters are interesting and defined for the most part with only a few being vague outlines without a real personality. For anyone who has read the previous books in the series you will be caught up right away with what is going on here since it has only been a short time since the action in the last. The story is somewhat predictable, which is to be expected, but it still plays out perfectly and with a few surprises.
After everything that happened in Chicago Kane Sinclair has decided that he would like to take over the Chicago pack because it does not seem to be being run well. Samantha Harper, who has been illegally acting as the Alpha of the pack definitely does not agree with Kane. She thinks he is arrogant and if he had not used the Finding to take the Greyson heir for his pack then she would not have as many problems.
Kane sends his friend Damien, who had previously been a rogue being hunted by Lycan Link for various crimes, to get any information on the pack that might help with his takeover. Sam for her part is expecting a spy and tries to hire a rogue to play the part of Beta in order to fool Lycan Link into thinking her pack is growing. But things get crossed and they end up working together but still at odds, though only one of them knows that.
The romance is nice and develops at a nice pace that does not seem super rushed. The way things go from one locale to the other is smooth and allows for keeping up with the other characters from previous books. This is the perfect blend of romance and angst.
Nicky Charles does it again! Betrayed is simply amazing, with its wonderful characters and its raw emotional scenes. Nicky creates a story that is hard to not fall in love with. The love you feel for these characters is almost tangible. When they hurt you hurt, they evoke raw emotions in the most beautiful way. Damien has suffered a heartache that would have destroyed anyone, he was broken and Sam is exactly what he needed. They are the quintessential pair. This story is perfect, it is filled with sexy werewolves, action, adventure, love, and surprises. I look forward to every book Nicky writes, I am a lifetime fan!
I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review. I have read all the Lycan Law books and I'm a big fan of Nicky Charles. The Road continues with Damien's Story and his encounter with the Chicago pack and it's Alpha. i enjoyed the book immensely! Nicky has created characters that I've grown to love and Damien is one of them. A rogue, a man in who loses everything he holds dear, what happens when he meets the Alpha from the Chicago pack? I recommend you read The Road To Redemption, you will laugh and you will cry and you will find that Nicky Charles is an amazing writer!
I was gifted with a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review and I can honestly say, this book was awesome!! I have a particular love for the Law of the Lycans series because The Mating was the first ebook I ever read and each book is better than the last. Nicky Charles never fails to make you feel for her characters... there is humor, heartache... I even got angry at them more than one time. She gives you a hero that is a rough, rugged and tortured soul and a heroine that has strength and the heart to accept him as he is.
I was very sad to finish the book, because it means parting with Damien, who has featured in the 3 previous books and kept changing, evolving. And who also was my first encounter with the author's lycan world.
Samantha is strong, and the idea of an Alpha female was interesting and well treated. I'd like to see more of her and her pack.
There's a lot of lies and deceptions, so it's hard to figure out how things are going, or what is hidden sometimes, but the revelations are always unexpected.
The book gives more input into the world of Law of the Lycans, where there are Others than the werewolves, and what those others may be. Also, how others packs works, and how traditions or rules can be moved and changed. How people themselve can forge their own path to redemption.
Damien will always be one of my favorite characters in this series. Actually, I love all the guys in this series because they are all so different and challenging. Damien struck a code with me deep in my heart and I have grown to truly adore him. He was very lost and lonely with a never ending black hole in his heart. Then came sam harper who was able to pull him up from the depths of his despair and show him a second chance. Nicky Charles Is and absolute genius!!! She is truly amazing and talented with her story telling gift.
This book was a hard read, I was close to not finishing it because of all the struggles everyone ended up having. I was rooting for Damien so much because, for the past 3 years, he had nothing but sadness and struggles. I was angry at Kane for putting him in a situation where he or the people around him could get injured. Kane annoyed me in this book because while he was trying to take over Chicago his home was a mess. Elise was begging Kane for more family time and all he was focused on was high council and the Chicago pack. I’m glad I finished this book the ending was beautiful.

I love Nicky Charles' Law of the Lycans series and The Road to Redemption is an amazing love story you will not want to miss. Damian's story is a powerful yet gut-wrenching journey to find meaning in his life and he begins to when he goes to Chicago and meets his match in the feisty, violet eyed, acting-Alpha, Samantha (Sam) Harper who challenges him in every way.
This was another good read. This time the main focus of the book is Damien and we get to see how much torment he is in over the death of Beth, three years earlier. Dante aka Salazar, another one of Deirdre's rogue team puts in an appearance as does Elijah Stone. It was good to have Kane, Elise and Reno back for a time too
When the author is able to make her characters real enough that I cry when they are struggling with hard sad choices deserves a 5 from me. If you don’t cry, that’s ok because these are still wonderful stories.
I can see exactly why I blocked out so much of this book from my memory. Damien, while having some cool setup, is the worst. Sam is not much better and these two would be divorced so fast it’s not even funny.
I'm rereading Ms. Charlie's books. I love each one. It's different from what I normally read, but each has great story. Books to curl up with at night. Love her books.
