This book was required for my healthcare finance class. It does explain many concepts in-depth, but often makes me want to pull out my hair because it fails to explain where a lot of the numbers in their calculations come from. There are also points where it fails to explain how to calculate equations needed for the accompanying homework and will instead just throw the answer, which makes no sense and forces the reader to attempt to find the equations via Google. This really needs some updating.

As someone who is not planning to become a CFO, this text is a great primer for folks that already have a solid understanding of balance sheets and other financial statements. Gapenski has a easy-to-read writing style, and takes time to incorporate spreadsheet methodology when computing various ratios and equations (because let's be real - who is doing these calculations by hand?!).
This text was as asset to a student who primarily will be leaning on others for financial information, as it provides a slightly-deeper-than-surface explanation for financial management theory. I'll be keeping this text for refresher moments during the next few years.
