Written in a very straight-forward and practical, yet research-based, style that users, regardless of their age/gender/nationality/race/etc. find engaging because it focuses on their personal need to enhance their effectiveness, career potential (e.g., salaries, promotions, job choice and flexibility), and general well-being (the book takes work/life issues seriously). The book begins by summarizing the research that focuses on what characteristics predict managerial and professional success and which characteristics predict failure. The subsequent chapters then present each of the characteristics that predict success in more detail, as well as tools and techniques for enhancing readers¿ personal and professional success. For beginning to mid-level executives.
Anyone who wants to be a manager, leader, or successful entrepreneur needs to read this book. This book does not focus on your technical skills, it does not focus on "getting ahead," it doesn't even necessarily focus on how to be a good boss. This book focuses on two things 1) Understanding yourself and 2) understanding those around you.
I had the fortune to read this book for school, but typically this is not the type of information you ever come across in a business school. Nothing in this book is measurable and none of it is tangible. All of it requires personal reflection and making sure you understand what your REAL goal is as a leader and manager (hint: it's not to climb the corporate ladder).
I highly recommend this book for anyone in any industry because the information applies everywhere.
