DS Jim Broadbent is called to the scene of a murder, where a pretty 18 girl lay naked having been raped and her throat cut. The investigation got off to a bad start, but as time went on the boyfriend became suspect, then DNA ruled him out.
Then two more victims one female one male were found was there a connection to the first?
The hairs on the back of DS Jim Broadbent’s neck began standing up.
Jim didn’t like the boyfriend he had a bad feeling about him, was this just because he didn’t like him or was his sixth sense right? Then he was told to back off due to the negative DNA he was sure he was right he just couldn’t get over the result, so kept investigating him. Was he right?
I have received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. When I started reading this book I had high expectations. The story seemed interesting, it began as a typical thriller/mystery. However, then there were suddenly different layers of the plot. The main character, DS Jim Broadbent is not only investigating a murder, he is also some kind of a spy for a secret service. There were two parallel plots in one book - one solving murders and the other acting as a spy. In the end, the murder suspect proved quite obvious at the very beginning, and as for the spy thing, it was too annoying for me to follow all those twists and secrets. The main character is also a man who cannot resist any woman so the reader is bombarded with scene after scene of endless sex. At times it seemed to me that he did nothing but ate and had sex all day, with some sightseeing and a bit of real work in between. It is true that the author obviously knows a lot about police work and that could in particular be seen in the part of the book relating to the murder case, which I quite liked. But that wasn't enough for me to really enjoy this book. Plus, there were so many grammatical mistakes and no punctuation which thoroughly spoiled any good parts of the book. Too bad because it could have been a much better book.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the last one. Mr. Rapel writes well about police procedure and crime. However this book also went into the spy game and had the policeman jumping on and off planes to the USA. Not my cup of tea I'm afraid. I think possibly more of a man's book.
