If you are like me, I like to read about a good conspiracy theory. I it involves politics and government spin (aka lying, aka press interview), so much the better. Unfortunately there are often what are known as collateral damage that takes the brunt of the fallout for someone else. Deception: The Making of the Youtube Video Hillary and Obama Blamed for Benghazi by Kenneth R. Timmerman exposes the truth about the making of the YouTube video that the Obama administration put out as the cause of the embassy attacks in Cairo and Benghazi even though they knew at that time that it had nothing to do with it. The author shows that the first time there was Islamist outrage and rioting due to this obscure video was after Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, and Obama made the rounds of the news shows with this coordinated talking point that was then taken up and amplified by the mainstream media. Until that happened, the controversial video was hard to find (less than 600 views for months of being out there). The author conducted research and interviews talking to those involved in producing the video, all of whom were under death threats and fatwas from Islamic extremists. The primary focus was with one actress who said she was totally unaware of the actual religious focus. All actors were only familiar with their narrow parts and were even told the name of the movie was Desert Warrior and that it was about life among desert tribes a couple thousand years ago. The bigger shock was that the original script that the actors recited were later dubbed and the main character's name was changed from George to Muhammad and other changes. The rest focuses on the lawsuits, parole violations, and dubious pasts that lent themselves to high-level government framing to distract from what was actually going on within the administration! Fast paced, hard to put down, and serious consequences for many of those involved as well as the suspicion about why YouTube refused to take the video down counter to their normal treatment of such material (at the request of friends in the administration to continue the outrage and loss of life for political advantage??) and the frustrating court battles to force YouTube to cooperate. Suspend your political beliefs and read this with an open mind to see if you think it answers some questions you had. Must read!
