For being a textbook, I actually really enjoyed most of this book! The textbook is organized very well, has great content and I especially liked the leadership book suggestions throughout the text for additional books to read.
The Leadership Experience by Richard Daft is an exhaustive overview of Leadership theory and related topics. It is a long read. He addresses Leadership from the standpoint of Leadership Theories and groups the styles somewhat thematically. If memory serves, this is the 11th edition of his work. It is pretty well refined. I think Transformational Leadership kind of got mixed up between editions. Early in the book, TL is said to be a Relational Theory of Leadership. Later in the book, TL is covered under Influence Theories of Leadership. So, misplacing an entire leadership style is a pretty big blunder for a book of this price.
Anyway, if you want to read about just about every aspect of Leadership - this is the book for you.
Easy to read, great examples of leadership. I also loved The Bookshelf, great references for some books on leadership to add to my library. This gave a thorough understanding of leadership with challenges to make it applicable to my day-to-day.
The Leadership Experience was a wonderful reading experience. Daft includes myriad contemporary examples to reinforce the concepts presented in each chapter, and the material is presented in a very unique manner. Unlike other textbooks I have read (such as the 1,000 page microbio text I crammed into 8 weeks this summer), each chapter contains many different methods for presenting the material, which helps the chapters pass more quickly and seem more interesting. Also, based on the way I learn, this format helped me to understand the material since it enabled me to chunk broad categories of information into unique, interrelated parts.
Though I'm reading this book as part of my MBA program requirements, I loved every page of it. The book tells how a leadership is made and what are the traits that shapes the leader. Leadership can be learned , the book tells you with enthusiasm . The book addresses all topics pertaining to leadership including : research about leadership notion, leaders personality , leaders relationship and other topics . Highly recommended to understand the phenomena of leadership and how to improve yourself as a leader.
This is a boo on leadership and ranks at the top of my list of books. The book is a serious read on what leadership is and the varied styles of leadership. This is a good resource for the aspiring leader.
Solid overview of leadership theories with plenty of real-world examples. It covers a wide range of concepts, but at times felt a bit textbook-heavy. Good for academic purposes, though not the most engaging read.
A great introduction to the theory and practice of leadership. A strong sense of balance and attention paid to the history, layers, and tenets of organizational leadership.
