When detective Hank Snowdon started noticing strange piles of ash throughout Portland, he took it upon himself to investigate further with his unusual but dedicated partner, Luci. Traveling through the decaying factory district where most of the bizarre ash occurrences materialized, he found there was more to the sudden manifestations than met the eye. Testing this peculiar ash, he discovered that they were in fact...human! Sort of... Confronted by a warrior named Benton, who has the ability to disintegrate other beings with his flaming sword, Hank's world continues to spiral away from reality. Especially when he inadvertently discovers a whole new world, unknown to most of humankind...along with the surprising realization that he is inescapably tied to this new and magical land.
Discover a new take on Alexia Purdy's Dark Faerie Tales series...one from the point of view of the "normal" human world! This story can be enjoyed as a stand alone but should be read after History of Fire (A Dark Faerie Tale #5) to avoid spoilers. This is considered book #6.
Alexia currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada–Sin City! She loves to spend every free moment writing or playing with her four rambunctious kids. Writing has always been her dream and she has been writing ever since she can remember. She loves writing paranormal fantasy and poetry and devours books daily. Alexia also enjoys watching movies, dancing, singing loudly in the car and Italian food.

Each and every story just brings me further into this world and leaves me wanting to know more. I loved all the details that were written out in this book because it actually made me to be able to visualize what was going on. I could even hear the clanking of the swords.
I love how they were able to write a story that had a hint of romance, or the hint of the possibility anyway. I still want to know more about the characters she has brought out in these series so I must continue on to see what I can learn.
Another great installment! I have enjoyed this series from the beginning, & book 6 was another great installment! We get new insight to what’s happening between the realms while overseeing a few cases including a murder mystery in the human realm. Lots happening & some revisiting of old characters we’ve missed. Looking forward to more adventures in Thai world Purdy brings us! BTW … LOVE the audiobook version!!!! It brings an even more vivid scene to life!
I really enjoyed reading this book. So much excitement and action it keeps your interest peeking. I can not wait to get the next book. I loved how this book drawed me into the story and made me feel like I was apart of the fun. If you are not reading this series yet what are you waiting for? The action and excitement will not disappoint you.
This series must be read in order. The first book is The Withering Palace. The second book is Evangeline. The third book is Ever Shade. The fourth book is Ever Fire. The fifth book is Ever Winter. The sixth book is The Cursed. The seventh book is Ever Wrath. The eighth book is History Of Fire. This is the ninth book. I can't wait to read Without Armor!
Hank has had a rough life. He lost his identical twin brother Howie to a heart defect when they were only two. Then he was badly injured in a car wreck that took both his parents' lives before he was even a teen. At least his grandparents took him in and raised him well. He could have been way more unlucky. Now all he has left is his grandmother and his dog Lucifer (Luci for short). Becoming a cop was a good way to put the martial arts his grandfather taught him to good use... And he is the onky homicide detective with a dog (Luci) for a partner! Life seemed to be turning out pretty well for him... Too bad he has an impossible case with victims turned to ash that only contain a modicum of human DNA... What are these new people exactly? Who is killing them? And why? How are they turned completely to ash? Where did they come from?
Benton is starting to get sick of all the Unseelie and Slugah he has to kill... Enough is enough! It seems to be an exercise in futility because for every one he kills three more seem to appear! They also seem to be getting stronger... And he has no idea why! Add to that some human cop that has been dogging his every move and you have a recipe for disaster! Where are all the extra Unseelie coming from? How are they getting so much stronger? What is the meaning of the strange Talismans he keeps finding in their ashes? Why is the cop so obsessed with him? Will he ever be done killing Unseelie and free to live his own human life? Or has that ship sailed without him even realizing it?
***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who enjoy dark modern fantasy action adventures filled with mystery, intrigue, thrills, horror and a bit of romance of the forbidden variety :)
Ever Dead was a very interesting novel with a cool concept that I enjoyed very much. This book is part of 2 different series, the 6th book in Alexia Purdy's "A Dark Faerie Tale Series" and the first book in J.T. Lewis's series (TBD).
The story was interesting and even if this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed getting to know the different characters and seeing how they fit in with each other. There was a lot of different types of characters, which made it interesting to see how they reacted to each other as well.
The story was really interesting as well. It was cool to see how this new story incorporated itself with "A Dark Faerie Tale" series and the new twists and turns that brings to the series. I enjoyed learning about the different creatures in this series slowly throughout the book.
The book was really well written. Alexia Purdy and J.T. Lewis did an awesome job at combining their writing skills and great story ideas together to form this wonderful novel. I will definitely be checking out both series. I have to give this book 5 out of 5 stars!
I don't even know where to begin lol. I'm not sure if me just saying I loved this book would be good enough for you to go pick it up. That is the truth however! I LOVE this book! I could not put it down. The surprises that came up in here... Wow! Never saw that coming! I found myself telling my kids about parts of the book. They have to wait for me to tad them then they can have at um. Lol
Alexia describes the world's in her books so well that ours like you was there sweating from the fire all around. I do no give spoilers. Sorry. ;) but I do let you know that it is a great series that I have loved from the very first book! I will tell you that I own every last book she wrote because they are that good. I will also say that my teen children love them also. I will also tell you that they are worth every cent!!
Now.... I begin the stalking of Amazon for the next book to come out. ;) ya... that good. :)
I guarantee if you need a great book to read... this is the one to grad grab!!!
I have read all of Alexia Purdy's books, so when I got the opportunity to ARC read this book I was super excited. I loved the series when it was situated around Shade and her story, and since we have moved to Benton to learn more about his adventure it was a great shift. As I was reading this book I did find though it was difficult to get into it. I am not sure if it was because it seemed to be the lead up book to what this series is going to be about or what. Don't get me wrong I thought that this was still a great book and for those who have read the series should read it also.
Benton has turned into such a great character since this spin off. We never learned a whole lot about him or his personality in the original series other than he was Shade's brother. So I look forward to learning more about him and the other characters that we didn't learn more about before.
One of my favorite series! I've loved this series from the beginning, and Benton has quickly become one of my favorite characters. This takes us to meet Detective Hank, who discovers ashes, which he soon discovers are *not quite human* and decides to investigate. Of course, he couldn't just leave well enough alone. We meet a few of our other favorite characters along the way, and there's always a bit of mischief and mayhem when there are fae involved. The writing, as always, is well done. The dialogue is great, as are the characters. The scenes and backgrounds are well laid out and well planned out, so no guessing what's going on or trying to figure out who is who or where they're at. Awesome book. Awesome series.
Ever Dead is the latest release in the Dark Faerie Tale series by Alexia Purdy. Once again, it follows Benton as he hunts the Unseelies in the human world. But, we are given a special treat with this book. Alexia worked with another author and we are introduced to a character who will have his own series as well.
As with Ms. Purdy’s other books in this series, we are given a well-written story with interesting characters we root for, are intrigued by, and can’t stop enjoying.
If you have yet to read this series, the first book, Ever Shade is free. I highly recommend this series, so what are you waiting for? Get reading!
Another best by Alexia Purdy and my introduction to author JT Lewis. This is the 6th book in Alexia Purdy's ever popular Dark Faery tale series and also the first introduction book of author JT Lewis. Even though the book is part of 2 series it can easily be read as a standalone. Hank is a Homicide Detective along with his K9 partner Luci. Hank is lead into the world of Faerie by Benton, who helps train Hank for his role in the coming war. Hank comes to terms with the fact that he too is half human. The story was great and I loved the spin-off of Hank's tale. The collaboration of Alexia Purdy and JT Lewis was amazing to say the very least. A must Read !! I absolutely adored it. Well done!!
Three and a half stars really. I love Alexia Purdy's books so much but this one with a co-writer had some issues. Descriptions of characters given in almost back to back paragraphs. Almost identical analogies given in almost back to back paragraphs. All of a sudden a character I've known for several books now starts swearing. Don't mind swearing, it's just this character didn't do that before. I did like the new cop/wizard and his dog. The story was great I just felt the writing could have been better in spots.
Hank is a new addition to the Dark Fae series and not what we are used to. Could be because he is human, well sort of. In this edition we get a different side of Ms Purdy and her writing style. No it isn't what we are used to be just as enticing and spine tingling and full of action. This time we start off in the human realm before we make it to Faery and all of the drama that goes with it. There's a war brewing and Hank and Luci are smack dab in the middle of things. I loved it and the characters I hope to see more of.
Hank; a human homicide detective with a K9 partner. He learns the hard way that he is only half human when his meeting with Benton leads him to Fearie as well as Dulci. Strange truths about his grandfather, parents and twin brother start to come to light. Hank beings to train with Benton to learn his magic. A coming war with a powerful dark wizard puts Hank and the others to the test. Will they survive? Must read to find out.
AWESOME SERIES! Can't wait for book 7 to be released. It's a pain when I get totally hooked on a series then, have to wait for the next book in the series. I start on another series only to go through the waiting process again. I just get so into the stories that I go through the way too fast. It's just that I have issues putting the book down. LOL! I REALLY, REALLY enjoyed this series though. Thank you, Alexia Purdy.
Great job. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read series books. It was a great way to introduce new characters into the series. I would love to see what happens to the younger sister Anna next. Even have a new love for Benton, Soap, or even Nautilus. Or even better yet for Shade and Dylan to have a child. I can't wait for the next one to arrive.
Okay...I caved and downloaded this POC onto my Kobo. Thank God it's just a short read! I've criticized the grammatical and other errors from other books in this series but this takes "errors" & "typos" to a whole new level - from describing a "familial" clan as a "familiar" clan to having a character "sheaving" his sword instead of "sheathing" it! Someone really needs to buy this (or these) author(s) a dictionary or some English lessons.
Loved loved love this... The ending was grrrrr... lol but soo amazing at the same time. I cannot wait for the next one to find out what happens. I love the characters and how they just keep growing. I love the introduction of new characters and still seeing my old favorites. ;) Alexia has done it again and I am loving this series more and more every book.
I think this is my second favorite book from this author. I am still working my way through her books but so far this is right after Reign of Blood. This is definitely my favorite book in the Dark Faerie Tale series. I loved the newest character Hank. He brought some spunk into the Faerie world. I loved the interactions with Benton and Hank. This is a must read in my book
As with the previous books in the series, this has you wanting more. I like Hank was surprised that he was actually able to "hold" his brother Howie. Oh and Luck, the dog, smh. She really got into the big fight.
This was a nice blending of story and style. Taking the story further and adding a new character worked well. However I found it much to short!! Now to try to wait patiently for the next installment, for both a Dark Faerie Tale and Hank Snowden.
This installment is about Benton, the brother of Queen Shade, a detective who has no idea he is a mighty wizard, his red devil dog named Lucifer, Luci for short since she's female, and Dulci a beautiful fae that Detective Hank has a crush on. Had a great battle at the end
