Warrior's Conquest

Rate this book
With proportions that would make Xena weep, Jacqueline Frazier despairs of ever finding a lover she can’t intimidate. Until the day she ignores a warning regarding use of a family heirloom, and finds herself swept off her feet by a knight in not so shining armor, back to the twelfth century. Forced to accept the protection of an overbearing, beast of a man, Rufus of Rathburn, Jacq struggles to find her place in the past while seeking a way back to the future. In the meantime, she aids Rufus’s war cause with a little 21st century ingenuity, shaking up the warlord with lessons in bomb-making, guerilla tactics, and the joys of sex. At first unwilling, and ungrateful, Rufus begins to see merit in Jacq’s odd ways. Through Jacq’s eccentricities and willfulness, Rufus learns she is a woman to be reckoned with, as well as a lusty handful in bed. Will his admiration of her cunning, strength and uninhibited sexuality grow into a love that breaks the barriers of time? And will their love be strong enough for Jacq to plot a different future in the past?

Award-winning author Elle James grew up as an air force military brat. She received her work ethic from her rock-solid father, her creative streak from her artistic mother and inspiration from her writing partner and sister, Delilah Devlin. As a former member of the army reserves and a current member of the air force reserves, she's traveled across the United States and to Germany, managed a full-time job, and raised three wonderful children. She and her husband have even tried their hands at ranching exotic birds (ostriches, emus and rheas) in the Texas hill country. Ask her, and she'll tell you what it's like to go toe-to-toe with an angry three-hundred-and-fifty-pound bird and live to tell about it!

Her adventures in the army and air force reserves, and the wild antics of her life on a small ranch in Texas give her fodder for mystery, suspense and humor in her writing. Elle writes gothic, paranormal mystery for the Harlequin Intrigue line and paranormal romantic comedy for Dorchester Publishing. A former manager of computer programming and project management professionals, Elle is happy she now has the opportunity to pursue her writing full time.

Awful book, hardly any story mostly sex and couldn't stand the so called hero and heroine, no romance at all. I will make sure I do not buy anymore from these authors as it is not for me.

This book by Ms. Elle James and Ms. Delilah Devlin was kind of a nice surprise for me I wasn’t expecting for this book to be any good or for me to enjoy it as much as I did. Being a new comer to both Ms. James and Ms. Devlin’s way of writing that I didn’t think the story would be that great. I guess even though I will read anything I seem to be pretty picky when it comes to reading medieval romance. This book did straddle the line being a time travel romance and no matter what I still love a good time travel romance story. I think I was apprehensive to like this story due to there being quite a bit more sex than I am used to in a medieval. Ms. James and Ms. Devlin still wrote a highly intricate involved tale with lots of action, hot steamy sex; sigh worthy romance, an unlikely beautiful warrior heroine, a gruff stoic knightly hero and just a fantastical tale throughout that the book was easily a page turner.
Jacqueline “Jacq” Frazier lives and works with her dad. Jacq works at the college university and the local Renaissance Faire and dreads only playing the bard at the faire. Jacq receives an heirloom from a family member from England and decides to use the heirloom to tell a story at the faire. In doing so Jacq is whisked back to the twelfth century and into Lord Rufus of Rathburn’s path. The strong physical attraction between Jacq and Rufus is undeniable but is that all it is and with war looming everywhere can their attraction for each survive being apart and the possibility of Jacq leaving to go home.
I went through a love hate cycle with both the heroine Jacq and Rufus. At first in the beginning I liked Jacq’s feisty strong independent manner but the more she spent with Rufus I just wanted her to stop being so shrewish and just go with the flow realizing that her demeanor caused a lot of the problems. I mean eventually I liked her but it sure did take me a while about 35% into the book. Rufus thankfully was much quicker about 15%. I understand that Rufus had to have that brash harsh behavior due to being a warrior so I could forgive him for that but I think what kept me reading was not only the story but some of the side characters and the interactions that Jacq and Rufus had with them. I really liked Donald, his quirky sense of humor and his ability to have fun I just wanted him to find someone great though. Even Gwen was a good person and I thought she deserved someone too. I did feel the book kind of ended prematurely and wanted just a little bit more still the book was well worth the read and I would definitely read another from Ms. James and Devlin either written separately or together.

My first time-travel romance – it’s great!

I’ve read a lot of books by Elle James and a lot of books by Delilah Devlin but I think this is the first one I’ve ever read that the two sisters have written together. This was also my first medieval romance and my first time-travel romance. That’s a lot of firsts!

I have to admit that it took me just a bit to get into this story but once I did I didn’t want to put it down. This book has everything: a dashing (if a bit overbearing) hero, a very strong (if a bit stubborn) heroine an interesting setting, action galore and it’s long enough to have complex characters and a story with a lot of meat to it.

Our heroine, Jaq, inherits a family heirloom – a book of prayers written by her female ancestors. After reading one of the prayers out loud she is plunged back in time to the twelfth century and swept off her feet by Rufus, an overbearing brute of a man (at least she thinks so at first). They prove to be a perfectly match set of wills with neither of them wanting to give in to the other until their passion ignites.

The heat level in this book is nearly off the charts. When Rufus and Jaq finally stop fighting long enough for their passion to explode I thought my ereader might catch on fire. But the story has so much more than just hot sexy time. I loved the way that Jaq was able to persuade Rufus to allow her to help him with his war strategy and how he was man enough to admit that her ideas had merit.

For readers who enjoy a story that they can really get into and spend some time with this one should be very satisfying; I hated to see this story end. If I have one small criticism it would be that it ended too soon. Alas, all books have to end eventually I just wasn’t ready for this one to stop when it did. An epilogue would have been a perfect touch, I think.

I received a free copy of this book from the authors in exchange for my honest review.

I thought I'd read almost everything by Delilah Devlin until I found this book co-authored by Elle James. I LOVED IT!!!! The book was exciting, sexy and even funny. The heroine was strong and very entertaining. Some of the stunts she pulls are hilarious. Her interaction with her male counterpart are captivating and the entire story just pulls you in. Did NOT want to put it down or to end. It's a shame they haven't continued the series because I want more for sure. Thank you ladies. Enjoyed it immensely and am recommending it to all.

I really enjoyed this story!!! It was great! The characters were awesome and very well written. I was pulled into the story from the very beginning and didn't want to put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next and how it was all going to turn out. There is plenty of action and intrigue in this story to keep your attention. The story flows very well. the sex is explicit and fits into the story perfectly. I loved Jacq. She is a strong woman sent back to medieval times and has to figure out how to fit in with her personality and what she is good at. I thought it was perfect! I would love to read more in this series.

This is Book 1 of the "Knightspell" Series and it is the story of Jacq and Rufus. When I started reading romance, I used to read only historicals. Later I read other genres as well. This book is just amazing. The characters seem to be alive, I could feel connected to them! The bond between the main characters is wonderful and I couldn't put this book down! I always enjoy Elle Jame's contemporary heroes but this wonderful knight is even better than her SEALS!!!her personality and what she is good at. I thought it was perfect! I would love to read more in this series.

I cannot wait to read the following one, maybe Donald's story?
