Kenco Diamond is a teen like no other. Taken under the wing of a gang leader at fourteen, she was trained and learnt every physical and mental skill to become a notorious and feared desperado with the tag name Demon, known to other gangs as The Goddaughter. Showing no mercy at all when it came to punishment and murder, Kenco only spared the lives of innocents and never let her feelings get in the way of who and what she was… until she met Tyler Douglas, a young man in her class. Kenco begins to have a heart after spending time with Tyler, someone normal, and she starts to feel conflicted… until she got a severe wake-up call after being brutally attacked by someone who wanted revenge on her, and she realises that Demon is who she is, what she is, and she will always be The Goddaughter.
All my life, from the age of six onwards, I have enjoyed writing. I remember writing a story about a magical football at the back of my school book in primary school, I was aged eight or nine. It was a story about a boy who purchased a football, and when he got home from playing with it in the park, the ball began complaining about being kicked about the place, frightening the boy, but also interesting him as he then asked what it was like being a ball, and a friendship was formed. The boy became very protective of his ball after that.
My teacher found the story while marking work and encouraged me to keep writing as she was very interested in what would happen next.
I also wrote a few other stories, one I remember clearly was about life under the sea, and I created many mermaid characters (inspired by the Disney classic The Little Mermaid). The mermaid children had to go to an underwater school and I even created some kind of underwater Scouts for them. I enjoyed writing this story very much. Regrettably the book I wrote and drew the characters in was lost when I moved house. I was aged twelve at this time, and from other stories I had written involving magic, I knew fantasy was one of my strong points.
At fifteen I started a project titled The Link, which I named so because I planned to write at least thirteen stories in this project, which were all linked to one another somehow. For example, third story may have absolutely nothing to do with the second or first, or the ninth would have nothing to do with the previous eight, but instead be linked to the twelfth story.
Since 2005 (age fifteen) I have been writing for this project, and am pleased to say I have now completed the entire series of The Link and have begun publishing them online. Aside from The Link series I have also written other stories which should eventually be published.
Also I like to write poetry or small pages slash posts of thoughts and feelings aside from stories. Feel free to view anything you like.
Since a small age I have always had “itchy fingers” and have always needed to write to express myself. Regrettably most of my work from a younger age was deleted or thrown away because of my embarrassment and self consciousness. Now, today, I am more confident.
I am glad to share my work with you and hope you will enjoy it.
This is one darkly intricate read. Kenco, aka Demon or The Goddaughter, is a young girl of fifteen when the love of her life, Asonso, leaves for Portugal. She grows up with her Father, and three sisters, but she gets tangled up in her brother Tony’s gang and his murderous ways. Tony is the King of the Jamaican gang. If anyone were to come between him and his sister he’d kill them with no disregard for their life. He taught her to be a cold and brutal killer-he wants her to be just like him. The problem is that Kenco has a family, and she wants to feel love, as much as she fights it, she’s still human. Throughout this whole story we follow Kenco as she tries to find herself amongst all the death and killing that surrounds her. There is a love triangle- or maybe a love quartet throughout the story- a first for me. There’s Bradley, her best friend whom she tries not to feel anything for, but he loves her and won’t let her go. They find themselves together over and over again knowing it’s dangerous, knowing her brother can kill him if he found out about their trysts, yet they can’t deny each other. And then there’s Tyler Douglas. With Tyler she wants to find normalcy, she wants love from him, he also confuses her. But there’s something about Tyler, as much as she tries to tell him how cruel and cold she is, he still wants to be with her. She starts to soften around him and maybe even love him. But she admits to loving Bradley and her emotions towards them are very confusing. In the meantime, Asonso Abrantes, her first love is fighting with his father to get back to England. He wants to go back to Kenco and will stop at nothing to get her back. Since he left he’s turned dark and powerful and is the King of the Portugal Mafia. Although he can have any woman he wants he still wants Kenco. Through all these entanglements the story takes twists and turns where you find yourself wanting to know more about what will happen with Kenco and Asonso. The story ends on a cliffhanger. One that leaves you wondering what exactly is in store for Kenco when Asonso returns for her. And what about Bradley and Tyler- does she really love them? I think this story has a lot of potential although at times I felt a little disconnected. An intriguing story overall filled with violence, death and a dark romance.
I am not so much into dark stories, but I got a hold of this book on a rainy night and my curiosity took over. The theme is realistic as it also reflects the other facet of society that most people would often ignore. The pacing is fast and yet, it leads the reader really enjoy the details that come with the story, most especially the adventures and suspense that envelopes the life of Kenco. I would definitely recommend this book to adults who are interested in stories of guts and bravery of women set in the cruel society.
Makala Thomas gives the reader a story that is crafted with care and skill. The book captures the voice of the generation, wild sexuality, and the force of youth. The conversation works well, and rings true. The book is for those who like the genre, or want to share the world of Thomas. Exciting!
I started this book because I was curious about this author I found the book to well written. This book had the right amount of conflicts that people face. It page made curious about was going to happen. The cliff hangover definitely Wants to read the next book
I don’t really read books like this, but I really enjoyed this one. The author got me hooked from start to finish, with the suspense and all. This is my first book from this author and I don’t regret it at all. Amazing 🤩
First time read by this author. This book is very written with Just enough suspense to hold your interest while the characters are coming to life. You feel as though you are Enjoy thecread
Unfortunately I had to give up reading this as I couldn't understand much of the lingo. The conversations between characters I had ask for translations from my teens 😋 I think it shows my age.
This is an engrossing read from a gifted writer. It's extremely, relentlessly dark, with violence as an everyday event. Kenco, the protagonist, is deftly depicted as a complex character with strong sociopathic tendencies. Her relationships with her sisters, brother and father are all conducted at arms-length by this cold, bright young woman. Through a series of events, she's brought to a place of no-going-back awareness of who she is.
The author's clear familiarity with the scenes depicted and their settings is obvious. As an American unfamiliar with much of this, I would have liked a little more introduction/set-up. It also was difficult for me to stay with Kenco on her seemingly unrelenting dark journey. But, if you're a fan of dark, engrossing, violent and sexy writing, this author's gifted writing, coupled with a well-edited manuscript, make for a fast, absorbing read.
A copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for a fair review.
“Snitches get stitches.” A cold-hearted gangster read where life has low if any value. Kenco is a power chick with a hot tempered killer brother as her “protector”. Love triangles, guns…to be the boy on her doorstep asking for a date, you have to be one courageous man or a complete idiot. One disagreement, conflict, results in death. With lots of death, comes revenge.. that’s human nature. Choosing to live a life of paranoia and constantly having to watch your back..Kenco is born and brought up into this mess. Can she ultimately separate herself from that born identity? As long as her brother is still in the picture, slim chance. Packed with drama, heavy scenes, complex characters, Thomas packs a punch in this dialogue rich read. Leaving you on a cliff hanger, you only want to find out what happens next.
Oooh, this book is steamy and realistic... I love it! I listened to this book with the text to speech app on the kindle while I was driving. The story starts off with a teenaged girl and her love interests, before it spirals in a coming of age adventure. The author writes with a no-nonsense feel that normalizes some of the parts of personal life that are often overlooked, or overly romanticised, in other books.
Another fantastic book by Makala Thomas! Fast-paced, full of adventure and suspense, and a character you hate to love, but do anyway. The author has a way with spinning a tale and she kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning.
I had to take a break from reading this book, because I was reading 4 books at once and not finishing any of them. I needed to focus on one at a time! So, I started reading it again a few days ago and finished 3/4 of the book in that time. Great story! I loved getting to know Kenco and was pulled into her world, loving her sassy attitude and fierce confidence. I will be buying the next book in the series and can't wait to start it!
