It seems like I'm never going to find the right woman... But maybe I've found the right man
Things haven't been easy for me. Even though, in theory, I have everything I want. I'm rich, I get to play football for a living which is my passion, I have a huge house. What I don't have is someone to share it with. Despite dating so many women, none of them ever click for me. I was beginning to resign myself to being alone forever, until I meet Alex.
Alex is the perfect person for me... Except for the fact that he's a man.
I don't date straight guys, I refuse to get tangled up in that mess.
At least, that's what I promise myself after my ex Jason. I don't want to be with a man who isn't willing to come out of the closet. But, that doesn't mean I can't be friends with Liam, right? There's no harm in being around him if I keep things platonic.
Only, every fiber of my being is craving him romantically.
This standalone gay-for-you novella is 30,000 words and comes complete with HEA ending!

First off, brand new writer, first book, and Hayden did so well. Hayden has a hidden talent and once developed, this author's writing skills can become excellent. Yes, I saw a few errors, but that occurs with self publication and did not deter from the story.
Speaking of... I. Die. For. GFY!!
There is nothing like seeing how an author spins a tale getting us invested in their words and making us believe. Having just finished another GFY (Falling), I can say this book has made its mark.
Twenty five year old Alex had stopped lusting after straight guys, or so he thought. Then he met Liam in the most unconventional way. On the beach, trying to get rid of a woman. Straight as an arrow Liam had been having difficulties connecting with people for a while, especially woman. On meeting Alex, he knew just why. Alec resonated with his soul, he felt solidified and "He just made me feel so much."
Strongly attracted to Alec, Liam was like that river in Egypt. "I couldn't be gay," he kept telling himself. But there was no denying how he sorted the man out after that first kiss or the fact that he had initiated the second one also. "I could see a future with him. I could see myself loving him."
This was a tale of a sweet love affair hindered by the fact that one man was a sports figure; the local hero and the other was done being anyone's dirty secret. It's a story of how non-accepting our world still is and why people are afraid to be themselves. And it focuses on what makes someone change their ways when life is on the line. I was in Sunday heaven and am pleased that I gave this book a chance. I look forward to Hayden's next book.

This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well this book has been written. I found this book to be a interesting heartwarming story and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The story covers Liam, a good looking quarterback football player who plays for the La Tigers and just cannot seem to find that one special person to share his life. His friend Jeff keeps on trying to set him up with various girls but due to no interest from Liam has finally given up. Alex goes to a bar and notices a girl coming onto a handsome guy and the guy does not seem interested so Alex decides to go over and save him by pretending to be his lover/boyfriend and the woman finally gets the message now this is where the story really starts to get interesting. What you will find in this story is drama, a lonely man, a man looking for someone, a bar, rescued from a woman, drinking, playing pool, talking, a date for Saturday, party, waiting for cab, a kiss, apologizes, texting, Alex coming over, talking, intimacy, breakfast with a friend Sarah, talking about Liam, playing pooling, interview, a woman stating they are gay men, on TV denies being gay, hurt feelings, breaking up, playing football, injured, medic phoning Alex, rushing to hospital, concussion, out for the season, Alex looking after Liam at home, sending Alex to spend time with Sarah, phoning publicist, drafting letter, showing Alex letter online, Alex to move in, a surprise, blindfolded, bar where they first met, a proposal, acceptance, a marriage with two beautiful children. There is erotic scenes in this book. I found the story-line and plot well thought out and written and the characters are developed with emotional feelings of fear, desire and needs. I would recommend this book to people that like a well written story with a HEA. I look forward to reading more from this author with anticipation.
In this "straight guy meets gay guy and discovers he's not so straight" story, Hunt gives us a star quarterback who doesn't realize what's missing from his life is another dude. Enter "perfectly likable generic gay guy" who just happens to be on the right sandy beach bar at the right time to fill said void in star quarterback's life. They meet, they hang out, they fall in like, they fall in love, and we get the obligatory "I had no idea I could feel this way about another guy." moment. Hunt then throws us the expected wrench into the bros' honeymoon phase when star quarterback decides he still wants to continue playing for a few more years, thus necessitating keeping his new gay relationship on the down low from the public and his fans, much to the disappointment of generic gay guy. A hard hit on the field resulting in a hospital stay puts the fear of God into star quarterback who then has a sudden change of heart, comes out to the public, retires from football, and he and generic gay guy retire blissfully to their McMansion on a hill with their 2.5 children.
I actually enjoyed this premise, its set up and the natural way the author allowed the characters and their relationship to develop, aided largely in part by a fairly decent ear for dialogue. The story fails on two major points. The first is so common to these gay romances I've termed it "homoclaustrophobia" and it refers to a glaring lack of supporting characters. The entire plot is told around the actions and conversations of just two people either in dialogue with each other or speaking directly to the reader. (With the exception of the gay character's obligatory female bestie room mate making rare appearances to act concerned or dole out advice.) Even the most anti-social people don't live their lives in a completely hermetic bubble so a total lack of relatives, neighbors, best friends, co workers, and all the other people that make up a life is just plain amateur hour, lazy writing.
Issue two is Hunt deliberately ignores the opportunity to deepen his story by showing us just how difficult coming out and being in a relationship would be on a star quarterback who is still actually playing. Hunt instead skips the natural (and totally expected) third act of his very interesting premise in favor of rushing his characters straight to the HEA ending without passing go or letting us collect our $200. Sadly, that decision alone is enough to file this one in the amateur hour bin instead of the 4 star read it could have been if Hunt hadn't been in such a hurry to get this one finished and posted.
I was really looking forward to this. I was a bit disappointed. This was basically an insta-love, HEA, you see in an M/M shifter story only there were no shifters. Liam is a famous football player, whose high expectation of relationship has lost him his best friend and keeps his bed cold at night. Alex is an out and proud gay man looking for love, but is unwilling to be anyone's dirty little secret. 30 seconds claiming to be Liam's boyfriend, and the sparks are already hot.
This story happened way to fast. Liam and Alex hang out maybe 2-3 times in the entire book. When Liam is invited over to Alex's for a party when he leaves, he kisses Alex. Typical of a straight guy, he sorta freaks, but for some reason Liam takes maybe a day or week to decide that Alex is his Fated Mate. Things progress even more lightning fast than possible. Per usual Liam can't be out because of work, Alex won't be his secret. They're suddenly outted and they have choices to make.
I really like Liam as a character he genuinely seems very sweet and is overall a likable character. I hate that this book is so short because it does not do the plot or character's any justice. Not only is there's insta-love all over this and I hate those kinds of books without good reason because it's unrealistic, they're declaring eternal love talking about marriage and kids when they haven't known each other long. They're supposed to date, but they end up an item and talking wedding bells.
There's a lot of holes in this. Jeff ended their friendship, but we don't see or hear from him and he's supposed to be Liam's best friend. We don't get any of his other friends or family. The only extended character lines we get are from Alex - even then it's only his best-female-friend. And she's more like the little angel you see on your shoulder being the voice of reason she has no real role other than that.
Something happens to make Alex throw every principle out the window for love. Not sure how I feel about that. We get an epilouge and everything is rose-tinted.
And lastly, there's only one short poorly done sex scene. It was sweet, maybe even a little intimate, but the fact that it's the only one? Not good.
I wish I would have liked this book, but I can't honestly say it was fantastic. Definitely have read better.
This was a heartwarming and romantic story. The focus was weighted heavier on the couple’s friendship, attraction to one another, and eventual relationship more than it was on sex. There were some physical scenes, but definitely not as many as I might have expected. Some readers may be put-off by the “insta-love”, but personally it works for me with these two and the author pulls it off.
Typically I like more tightly written works and a more deeply developed plot, but the characters were enjoyable, the storyline itself was satisfying – even though it appeared things worked out very easily and/or the author chose to focus on the positives in the couple’s day-to-day relationship, for the most part (even the angst sections weren’t overly dramatic and for the most part quickly and satisfactorily resolved) – and it was an easy and entertaining read. Yes, the author should make it a priority to have the work edited and proofread prior to releasing it, and I’m hoping it still happens with this work, but for some reason – and it must be because I found the characters and subsequent storyline cute and engaging because typically that sort of thing makes me cringe – I was willing to overlook it (this time). I even look forward to reading what the author publishes next, especially if it’s an M/M romance.
I found the epilogue touching, realistic and satisfying.

Loved this story. The story line was strong and the characters were well developed. This is a very heart wrenching story that keeps you engrossed in these two men's lives. Liam is the quarterback of a LA Professional football team. He has never been happy in his personal life, not connecting with any woman out there. One day he meets Alex at a bar. Alex is out and proud and he sees that a woman is coming on to Liam and the woman doesn't take the hints that he is not interested. Alex comes over telling the woman he is Liam's boyfriend. That encounter starts an amazing friendship. Liam is not sure what he is feeling because he has never been attracted to other men. Alex has been hurt in the past by straight men so he cautiously becomes Liam's friend. Alex invites Liam to a party at his house and on departure Liam kisses him, but immediately rejects him for what he did. Alex is hurt because he is so attracted, but walks away. The two can't forget the kiss or each other. Liam's beginning to feel that Alex is the one he has been looking for. Great story. Heart wrenching because Liam wants to keep their relationship secret because of his career. A beautiful love story as Liam comes out. Enjoyed this story immensely. Highly recommend it.
BUT I ended up returning for refund after DNF-ing it.
The beginning was good, I thought Liam and Alex were interesting characters, and I liked the portrayal of Liam, and his struggles with women, and being unable to find someone to love. I liked that he kept to his principles and didn't lower his expectations just because he hadn't been 'lucky in love'. BUT THEN it became a raging case of insta-lust/love that was totally at odds with the story in the beginning... Also after 2 kisses, they have sex... On the couch... WITHOUT prep for Alex (I didn't get the sense that he's running around with a plug up his butt, to be ready for Liam's HUGE dong (because OF COURSE)... WITHOUT a condom!!!!????????!!!!!!!!!!!... And again without prep (just a finger and some spit, because, that's how THEY roll) for Alex, it just slid right in! I was sitting there thinking: WHAT??? Also, at this point Alex still doesn't know what Liam does for a living, and they've only hung out 2 times (once at a party where they were *SMASHED*), but they are now ready to declare love! Yeah; NO, not for me!
Sweet and sexy… I really enjoyed this novella, the comradery between Liam and Alex feels playful and genuine from their very first encounter. These characters are a great balance for each other, with Alex’s unwavering positivity injecting some sunshine into the darker corners of Liam’s world, which seems to be shrinking with every passing day. They bring out the best in each other, despite the burdens that Liam’s career puts on their relationship, and I liked how clear they were with each other about their priorities. When Alex suggests that even the speed of sound doesn’t move faster than Liam, he’s certainly not overstating it. Liam is a very self-aware character, and transitions from dissatisfied with his life to completely upending it single-minded determination. This is a great choice if you’re looking for a quick feel-good read with only a touch of angst, I’m looking forward to more from this new author. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I have only read two books from this author. And I can say that Hayden's style of writing is more like a fairy tale story where there is hardly any conflict, its pretty much short with everything going on smoothly except that one life altering decision where seemingly one of the MC's just make it in few minutes. The length of the story do not give any luxury of inner dialogues which is the core of indulgence in any book. The characters Hayden creates are simple, one being kind and the nurturer; another being rich and the provider. Hayden's stories are light, happy, conflict free with a fairy tale HEA. Light reads are great, very much essential but I don't think I am a fan of sickly sweet love and lack of inner dialogues disappoints me and the number of dialogues between the MC's are even less than the inner dialogues. That is why I may not read another from this author. There is nothing bad about the books. These are just....not my kind of books. That's all. May be if ever I want to go for a lighter read Hayden's books might come in handy.
Straight professional Los Angeles football star quarterback who is in a perpetual funk, openly gay man who never has his profession identified saves him from a female predator in a beach bar. They become instant friends, and then all of a sudden lovers.
Oh, the angst. Meh. Not really, just eh.
And then it races to the HEA end like a 100-yard kickoff return.
And all the while I am saying to myself: OK, if Liam is the quarterback, he should be the guy on the left on the cover. And therefore Alex is on the right--but he's holding the football. Right.
But, wait. Nowhere in the book is either man described physically beyond his abs and hot body. The guy on the left has this Celtic look that says his name should be Liam; the guy on the right is Latino. Nowhere in this book was either described as Latino. Wouldn't mind if he were, but, um, did someone in the art department not talk this over with the author?
I raced through this book to see where the angst would be, and it came to a blessedly abrupt end before there was any.
This would have been a solid 3.5/4 stars but got marked down for poor editing and parts of the story timeline being mixed up. Normally I can overlook spelling mistakes and misspelling words but this was too often and impacted on the enjoyment of the story. For a novella the length of the story didn't effect the flow of the story. It was well told it didn't seem that anything was rushed, lengthened or missed out. You could feel the emotion and connection between the MCs. Liam dealt really well with his realisation and the whole relationship with Alex. I did feel sorry for Alex and the position he ended up in, but he dealt with it well. I loved the epilogue and seeing the HEA the couple got. I received this book free for an honest review.
Alex is a young man who refuses to let life keep him down. All his friends are busy with careers and relationships and he's at loose ends. A prior bad relationship makes him wary of trying again. Liam is a professional football player. He's never met anyone that he's been able to connect to until he meets Alex. Liam needs to keep their relationship secret, which makes Alex unhappy. Liam and Alex both have to decide what they're willing to do for their HEA. This is a good fast read. The editing on the other hand is terrible. The odd typo is one thing, but this story was riddled with misspelled words, sometimes several of them in the same sentence. I received an ARC copy in return for an honest review.
I hadn't read any of Hayden's books before but I'm really glad I read this. Alex was adorable. I hated that he had been hurt before and in could completely relate to him trying to resist Liam. Liam seemed like a real jerk at first but once he met Alex, he changed.. I loved them together. They were so comfortable with each other right from the start. it was momentary were made for each other. And that first kiss was awesome! Totally unexpected but very sexy. The story moved pretty fast but I personally like shorter fast-paced books that tell me a full story. I hate feeling short-changed. Liam and Alex make a great couple and I enjoyed reading about them.
Finding purpose in life both personally and professionally is difficult. Growing up is hard. But what do you do when all your friends around you are growing up and moving on, or when the same women day in and day out never seem enough?
You go to a bar. You meet a man, a friend and your life changes forever.
The unexpected happens, you meet him, and life will never be the same.
This story contains heart, and love. Although a fast read, it has all the right qualities to make up a great story and a 4 star review.
If your a fan of love, a fan of m/m and a fan of hot males, this book should be read by you.
I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review
This story had an interesting take on a "straight", unhappy, and unfulfilled professional football player (Liam). I liked how Liam and Alex meet, become friends, and eventually more. Liam is afraid to come out due to his career, but Alex really struggles with hiding and being back in the closet. There was some minor angst, but the story moved very quickly (sometimes too quickly to truly connect with the characters). This was my first book by this author (and the author is pretty new). I felt that there was a lot of promise to the book and writing, and I am looking forward to checking out more in the future.
One and half stars. Awkward, stilted writing, poor editing, cardboard characters and lots of exposition. There is hardly any story. It is basically instant love and badly written sex scenes. Oh and the kindle edition ends at 57% so that the author can share excerpts from her other books.
I feel cheated, having paid 99 cents, and can't believe that this book normally sells for $2.99. I rarely rate books a single star which indicates that the book has no reason to exist, but in this case, I think that is a pretty accurate evaluation. This is an embarrassingly bad short story being offered up at the price of a competently written novel.
**Update: Changing my review, removing rating, because I am annoyed... This Author has the same exact book under a pseudonym, Edie Bryant and/or Aimee Alesi and changed the character Genders From F/F to M/F to M/M. To me personally, it just seems really dishonest to take the exact same books with the exact same wording (basically plagiarizing your own work) and then republishing them all with different gender pronouns, I personally do not feel comfortable reading this authors books and will no longer be purchasing or reviewing them either.***
This book just didn't grab me unfortunately. The story of sportsmen struggling with their identity is well known, and Liam being down, possibly depressive and pushing his friends away, is a scenario I understand, but I felt too distant from characters, I didn't feel as if I got to know either of them well enough to care whether their relationship lasted or not. Although I did like the little plot point when Liam came out, it was really sweet, the epilogue turned me off again - they had lots of money. Beautiful house, didn't need to work, perfect kids, sorry it is just too cliche for me.

I really enjoyed this book. They were both just so sweet and adorable. It was like reading a harlequin book (only in the best way). It reminds me of a chick flick with a meet-cute and everything. I know nothing about football but the players and Jason was perfect. The story is light and easy. There aren’t a lot of details about either person’s history which was fine by me. I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to more from Hayden Hunt.
While Liam and Alex's relationship started fast and hot, I loved how sweet Liam was after he found the one right person for him, who just happened to be a guy. Liam, while a successful football player, had been going through life without any connections, even with his teammates and old friends. When he meets Alex, everything changes. It is a sweet and sexy love story that I highly recommend!!
I liked this book, actually a little more than like. Sexy football star, meets gay guy.. Only problem, football guy is straight, or so he always thought, he couldn't seem to understand why woman just didn't do it for him, until he met Alex. There wasn't much sex at all in the book, which didn't really bother me, I loved the romance so all is good.
I loved this sweet painful story. Liam needed out of a dark hole and Alex was a shining light in an otherwise dreary place. Both together they help each other get through the good times and the bad.
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I must say, this story I enjoyed the most of all of them. I love that society is becoming more accepting of same sex relationships, but we still have a long way to go.
Two young men meet at a beach bar and feel a strong friendship immediately begin to form. However, both men realize fairly quickly that there is .more than friendship going on. This creates issues that result in both men wondering if the romance can survive.
I like the characters in this book. It is a well written book. The snippet at the back of this story of another book from this author is a good start to a good story.
