Shin Scytheclaw has always wanted a mate and a family. Instead, he’s a hermit. His epilepsy forces him to shift uncontrollably, and after his tiger kills a poacher during a seizure, he asks shifter doctor Rex Cleveland for help and is confined on Haven, a sanctuary for omegas.
Merrick Andean can’t resist his curiosity about the tiger on the island. His visits to Shin become more frequent, until the bond between them is undeniable. For the first time, Shin has the companionship he craves.
But Shin’s illness still troubles him—and when Merry gets pregnant, Rex discovers their secret affair and threatens to send Shin away. Can Merry and Shin make the family both of them long for, or will Shin’s instability force them to live apart?

A nice little read featuring a favorite character from the previous books. The setup was very clever and solved the sticky problem of how an omega on Haven could ever meet an alpha. Shin's issue made for an interesting dynamic between the two and showed Merry's exuberance as he overrode good sense with his heart's instincts. There are lots of sexy times including classic sex-on-the-beach ones. Shin is like other alphas in the series, seriously possessive and protective, determined to provide and pamper his omega. The writing itself was a little simple and there were some proofing/spelling mistakes scattered throughout. I did have two pet peeves. First was how many times the author substituted "the male" in place of "he" or "him" or some other word. The other was that there were way too many over-the-top smiles, described, for instance, as making the smiler's "cheeks hurt". Merry is a sunny, smiling soul but this was too much even for him--then Shin gets in on the action. There has to be a better, more varied way to show the character's good mood or joy. But these are just little things and I'm really looking forward to the next one (I hope it's Henley's story, although Aven in a contender too).
It was a good read, that moved along at a good pace. I have never read a thing by this author before but maybe I will again the subject matter was different than your normal shifter romance and I give it a star for that alone. I would recommend if you are looking for something just a little different.
I actually really loved this story it was very moving. The characters were great and I enjoyed reading about certain illnesses. The ending was very cute too all around a great read with a beautiful happy ending.
Sorry, but I found Merry too enthusiastic, too bright, too harsh, like a little child. Shin was nice, and I also appreciate the end of the series - it was fun to see all the alphas making friendships with each other.
So much love for Merry and Shin… I was so excited to find out that this installment of the series featured Merry, who’s been injecting his unique brand of sunshine into every scene he’s in during the previous books. He’s such a vivacious character that he needs a very strong mate to balance him, and he more than meets his match in Shin, a tiger shifter bearing the weight of years of isolation due to his uncontrollable shifts. With the natural curiosity of a feline shifter, Merry simply cannot control his impulse to visit with Shin, and I can’t say that I blame him for being unable to resist the alpha. I was charmed by their tentative steps towards each other, and loved how Shin learned to trust his connection to Merry after spending so many years resigned to being alone. Once they started to settle into their life together, it was also great to revisit some of the characters from the previous books. This is such an entertaining series, I can’t wait for more… Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I'm totally in love with this series, I love the characters, the storytelling continues to get better with each story (although I did feel like I noticed more typos in this one than previous books, so I'd maybe get a good final proof-reader for next time?), and I'm totally on board for whatever happens next.
This one features Merry (Who I ADORE, he is an adorable muffin and I love him) and Shin, and their chemistry and connection together are just scorching and lovely to read about. I love that Merry is so happy and bright, and Shin is more serious and solemn, but they just work so well together.
Can't wait to see who is next - Aven? Henley? I love this group of shifters!
