Arnold Stark Lobel was a popular American author of children's books. Among his most popular books are those of the Frog and Toad series, and Mouse Soup, which won the Garden State Children's Book Award from the New Jersey Library Association.
There was a rude pig from Duluth Whose manners were clearly uncouth. For he emptied his cup From a terrace high up, Dropping showers of soup on Duluth.
I loved it! Then again, I like silly things and I love pigs. The only drawback is that I read this in a translated (Spanish) version. I will be hunting down the original and I'm sure it will be 5 stars! The drawings are wonderful, too.
This book has a lot of good examples of Limericks for when teaching a poetry unit. Although, all of these poems feature pigs! It is fun to show how you can take different ideas and make them your own by changing them up.
I love limericks and this was a very cute book all about pigs. The illustrations were great with a lot of detail that worked great with the silly verses.

This is one of my favorite books from my childhood. I carried it with me everywhere. I poured over the illustrations and poetry. My imagination was sparked by the amusing and thought-provoking stories that these limericks held for a child. It is what began my deep and abiding love for poetry. It still is on my bookshelf and I still read it from time to time.
Oh the cleverness of Arnold Lobel... We love him! Such a great collection of poetry to fill your kids’ imaginations with fantastic rhymes and silly ideas about a variety of pigs.
Me ha gustado, aunque al ver el título en inglés y la traducción al español me imagino que hubiese sido un cinco leyéndolo en inglés. Se pierde la esencia de los limericks al tener que traducirlos. Me encanta el autorretrato del autor como un cerdo.

It is hard to believe someone can make so many limericks about pigs. I could have done with a few less... but by the time you are done reading, you have a very good idea what a limerick is, that is for sure! Read to go along with Reading Rainbow episode "Perfect the Pig."
this book was a good poetry book. it is aimed for older elementary. It would be a good book to read every so often to the class. I wouldnt read the whole thing at once tho
its about different types of pigs, and they all do things differently and act and say different things. some of the pigs are messy or conceited or rude and disrespectful and have no manners, and some are really nice an helpful.
