One should never make assumptions about another person
This book is brilliant, it begins with yet another move this time because the island the group are on is set to erupt. Al, Chris and Mira leave on a boat to find the other island in Thera, in the hope they can get established before the volcano erupts killing all their friends. After getting all the people from the village away So and Chris are caught in a tsunami and Am is hurt. Suddenly a shuttle arrives commanded by an old friend of the captain, they ask for help to repair So which he agreed to but it has to be done in secret. The new colony distrust technology and have heard rumours about what happened to the Excalibur. Read to see how the problems are sorted and whether the communities can become one. A must read for all lovers of Sci-Fi and an important tale on how to treat others, whether you like/know or not.
Jonathan Meyer picks up from Book Two and gets the story rolling along. Its a hard-to-put-down novel and most readers will adore the light-paced action. This is another fine addition to Jonathan's Al Clark series; although I am thinking that this novel completes a trilogy. Time will tell and I will certainly pick up the next Al Clark novel if there is one. Well done, Mr. Meyer. Thank you for letting me enjoy your sci-fi universe.
This series give me hope in humanity and is a rare gem of how awesome the future could be with a rare well written positive outcome. Amazing and enjoyably haven't put it down for three days and sad this was the last book.
While the first book was clearly more thought out, and the second was truly creative, this book was necessary to have closure. Thank you for writing an exciting series with closure
Usually I only read a book or 2 in a series as I get bored; however, I've read all the Al Clark books in this series because I enjoyed them so much. I've recommended them to my friends and family who enjoy clean, fun books. I hope you enjoy the series as much as I do!
A great adventure into deep space in the hope of finding a new home.
I flew through these books because I have enjoyed then so much. Mr. Meyer has such rich characters that the reader comes to know each one. Thank you for this sci-fi tale. I totally enjoyed the read.
Firstly, I have no idea why I actually downloaded and started the first book in this series. I don't read sci fi at all, it doesn't interest me one bit. So I have nothing at all to compare this too really. But obviously I enjoyed it since I've read all three of them now.
Personally I thought all the books could do with a bit of polish when it comes to the editing. The odd case of the wrong word being used (off the top of my head gate rather than gait) and a few changes in tense mid sentence.
Storywise though I found the series really enjoyable although I'd have liked to hear more about the every day life of the colonists rather than just the dramatic moments. Would have liked to know more about the actual dangers they faced too, feel like the books barely scratched the surface in both respects. But I suppose that's personal preference since others are bored to tears by that sort of thing.
Definitely a series that I think is well worth a look and I'll be looking out for more along the same lines and waiting to see whether the author releases more in the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this along with the two prior books . This journey was a measure of a man and his rise to lead and bring his friends, family and colony to successful beginning on a planet found in that wonderful journey. Thanks Mr. Meyer is was a thrilling ride.
This is a very nice finish to the Al Clark series. The author continues to excite and amaze as the people move again and the time begin to run out for Al. This is a very well written book and I highly recommend it to anyone who has read the other two books in the series. You'll enjoy the dragon.
These books are definitely the best science fiction I've read in a very long time. There is suspense, surprises, danger, and action along with plot twists that keep you reading even though you you have things that you're supposed to do. I highly recommend this book and the previous one to anyone who enjoys science fiction!
This was a good series of three books. Lots of action and original ideas. It takes a good writer to keep me interested after reading sci-fi for 60 years, and this is one that did. Keep up the good work. Tim Reeves
( Format : Audiobook ) "The metal of a man is measured by what is inside." Despite every attempt to secure their community on the beautiful but dangerous planet of Avalon, after five years the colonists are forced to flee, using the technology left behind by the Caretakers. As head of security, it is Al Clark's responsibility to find a new, safe home for the settlers, but this could prove a difficult task. Continuing on from book two, Thera follows the adventures of Clark and the would be settlers into new worlds and dangers as they desperately look for a home.
This is good, solid,, old time science fiction, exploring both people's perceptions as well as the nature of the planet's encountered. Although characterisation is not a main feature, the protagonists have grown sufficiently over the previous volumes for this not to be a problem and the story itself holds excitement and thrills. The reader is drawn into the hopes that, against all odds, a new safe home will be found and that Al, himself, will survive. Possibly the least involving of the three books, Thera is still a fitting and engaging conclusion to the trilogy. The narrator, John McLaughlin, is new to the series, replacing the excellent Jonathan C.Meyer. He also delivers a good performance but, without the emotional involvement of his predecessor, the reading does not have quite the same impact.
My thanks to the rights holder of Thera, who, at my request via Audiobook Boom, freely gifted me a complimentary copy. The whole Al Clark series had been a pleasure to hear, innocent but full of adventure with some thought provoking ideas. As such, the books are for all ages, from youth to the older science fiction fan.
When I reviewed the first Al Clark audiobook I believed that the Author Jonathan G. Meyer had no plans on continuing the story which beside complaining of its shortness I have enjoyed so much. Having no idea that he did after reviewing many other audiobooks Jonathan got in touch with me, asking if I am willing to review the third Al Clark audiobook Thera. I was excited about finding out that the author have listened to the reviewers which like me loved the story but wanted more. So I’ve listened and reviewed the second book and now I finished listening to the 3rd of the trilogy of Al Clark enjoying every moment without a thought of taking a break. Now I’m hoping that from this trilogy a series will become noticing that the author have left an opening to do so by introducing a new race of beings the watchers and the indigenous creatures to the world that they ended up at, both we have no real knowledge about. As usual John McLoughlin narration was flawless. Was it luck or faith the discovery of the continuation to the first Al Clark audiobook? It don’t matter, what did is that I’ve got to listen to them all and that each and every one of them was pure joy !!!
I fully recommend this audiobook to all.
Received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This one has some interesting stuff in it. Al is still a cyborg with all that means, but there is now teleportation between certain planets and even some limited teleportation from one place to another. Thera is the planet the Avalonians transfer to. Al, of course, goes first as a trial and on the way picks up a baby dragon, which attaches itself to Al like a dog.
Thera is in medieval stage development. Their king is obsessive and rules with a heavy hand. The people know no better, but some are grumbling silently since to revolt is death. Enter Al Clark and his dragon. The fun begins.
Tiro goes wherever with Al Clark and the others since he is on a data cube. Tiro is able to do some things on the old center on Thera. Unfortunately, the island on which they land in Thera is an active volcano and is rumbling. That necessitates a new crisis. However, there is a landmass somewhere on Thera; they just have to find it and a way to get there.
More surprises are in store as the adventure continues. The action is quite different from what took place on Avalon, so that is refreshing. No dinosaurs, but there are some sea creatures of formidable size. Threats, always threats, but Al Clark and his cohorts manage to get around them.
Having to flee Avalon was hard, but with their numbers greatly depleted, they have no choice. It's up to Al Clark to try to find a place that they can settle. Having traveled to Thera, he feels like it's somewhere they can finally call home, but there are obstacles that he needs to deal with first.
I loved both 1 and 2 of this series and while I thoroughly enjoyed this, I didn't love it as much as the first two. I can't put my finger on exactly why, I just know that I wasn't as invested in this one. Don't get me wrong though, it's still a great read!
Once again, the characters are all well written and developed. Al Clark is still doing his best to help his people and he is finally becoming the man he should be with a new power source. I was thrilled to see him finally reaching his potential!! He is such a great character and one I won't forget easily. He doesn't have to face dinosaurs in this, this time it's something much more destructive... man, and mother nature!!
The plot was fast paced and entertaining, it just wasn't as exciting as the previous two. I was still invested in the overall story and held out hope they would find a place, I just feel like it was a lot tamer and not as gripping. I still enjoyed it though and if there were more to come, I would definitely read them.
In all, this series is great and I'd urge you to try it! I'm so glad I took a chance on it and look forward to more from this author.
John McLoughlin read this well and was clear and easy to follow. I don't know why the narrator was changed but this narrator was a little better than the first one.
I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
This book was alright but a step down from the other two books. Dinosaurs mentioned but that was it. Glad the ending was good for the characters but the story itself was rather flatlined. At least the language was decent and the editoring was good. What the heck, four stars instead of three just for that.
Book 3 continues the history of our intrepid pilgrims. Al and Chris make a great team of heroes. The characters are well drawn and likable. This story kind of gave up at the end - a little divine intervention solves problems. I was disappointed in that, but the whole experience was still positive.
I went off sci-fi some years ago, but after reading the first in this series, I’m hooked again. Shame the first one was free on Amazon Prime Kindle - they trap you into buying the other 2, but tbh I didn’t mind, I enjoyed them all. Great read, recommended and thank you Mr Meyer - more about Al please?
Good series. Be sure to read the first AL Clark title, Avalon. In this, the third book of this series, AL finally finds a home for theExcalibur’s colonists. The end has a not unexpected twist so take your time reading this one.
The three books about Al Clark were an enjoyable read. Al had some "interesting" twists of fate that started out as a start of a bad adventure but turned out for the best. The only problem I had was Mr. Meyer never have us the life of Al before the accident.
I really enjoyed this whole series. The characters were fun and interesting and their challenges one part Star Trek, one part Lost in Space. There's also just enough mystery to maintain an underlying energy.
I seem to be hooked on this series now. As a long-time science fiction reader, this series has just about all the things I love about the genre. If you're a science fiction fan, give this series a try.
