I was already too open to him without meaning to be, as if he’d reached his hands into my chest and pried it open while I was knocked out on the table. And by the time I came to, I was permanently altered and couldn’t do a damn thing about it.
I decided yet again to take a gamble and try a new author and it definitely paid off!! The synopsis to LEGAL sounded like a dream come true to me. Older woman meets a gorgeous younger man with a healthy sexual appetite, and they proceed to have mind-blowing sex on the regular??!! SIGN ME UP!!! And that cover!! I was in instant cover lust when I laid eyes upon it.
Jillian Hudson has been divorced from her husband of seventeen years for over a year. She hasn’t really had a lot of experience with men and never had feelings of lust or soulmate love for any man ever. She married her ex because she had fallen in love with his two-year-old son. She became a wife and instant mother at the tender age of twenty. So she never had a chance to really experience her youth. Now she’s looking to change things up. She goes out with her bestie to a local music festival. It is there that she catches the eye and ends up having some wild sex in a supply closet with a very young and beautiful guitar player, named Chase Nolan. This is the first time she’s ever had sex with a stranger and it was the best she’s ever had, but Jillian knows it was just a one-time deal and doesn’t expect anything to come of it.
Fate keeps bringing these two together, and it also may have had a little help from Jillian’s friend, who finds out where Chase works and she makes sure to have the two cross paths again. They end up carrying on a strictly physical relationship once Jillian finds out that she is fifteen years older than Chase. She knows that nothing can come of their relationship and is convinced that their time together has a definite expiration date. Chase, on the other hand, is crazy about Jillian and goes along with her wishes because he doesn’t want to scare her off by pushing things too soon.
I felt for Jillian because she has all these insecurities about her aging body and it doesn’t help matters that wherever they go, young twenty-something women are throwing themselves at Chase. In her mind, it is only a matter of time before Chase gets tired of her and moves on to a pretty young thing. But as the story progresses, it becomes apparent that the grown up in this relationship is really Chase. Jillian ends up making some really idiotic decisions that end up jeopardizing her one real chance at true love.
The schmexy in this book had my heart rate escalating to all new heights and I really had a hard time putting this one down. I actually stayed up till 4am to finish it because the angst was tormenting me so much that I had to get to that HEA!!! I have never read anything by Bree Dahlia prior to this book but now I am curious to check out more of her works.
LEGAL will be available on July 20th!! Be sure to one-click. You’ll want to meet Mr. Chase Nolan. I promise you, he will have you panting and swooning!!!
4 Wild Horses Stars! Loved this one for the most part. Chase was super hot! Loved him the most! He knew what he wanted and didn't care what anyone else thought. Jillian kind of got on my nerves with all the drama and the age difference thing toward the end. I felt she didn't deserve Chase at one point. I'm glad it all worked out at the end. I'll be looking for more books by Bree Dahlia!
There is a theme that is not used a lot in romance reads... the older heroine and the much younger hero, but it is one that I find intriguing. Given that the biggest gripe we normally have our about heroine is the lack of maturity, I often wonder why this is not explored more.
With Legal, we are introduced to Jillian and Chase. Jillian is focused on her career and really isn’t looking for anything, not really a one-night stand or true love. Divorced and living mostly within the walls of her office, meeting Chase is about to change everything.
One wild moment spent at the music festival in a locked closet turns into so much more as Chase decides to pursue a woman that is roughly 15 years older than him. But there is just something about her that he can’t seem to get enough of.
Throughout Legal we watch Jillian struggle with the idea of “not dating” Chase a man that is very close to the age of her stepson. She battles her attraction to him and worries far too much about what everyone else is going to think seeing them together. I do admit, that although I was hopeful that Jillian would be that uber mature heroine that is like the unicorn of the romance world, she was far more insecure than expected. I was frustrated with her – but it really was fitting for her situation. Oh, that double edged sword of romance.
I did really enjoy this story. Chase was one of those characters that you just couldn’t find a single fault with. He was patient when he could have been all caveman, he stood his ground when he had to – there wasn’t a single thing about him that was wrong.
3.5 stars. Young man (24), older woman (38) romance. I usually love these kind of books but the heroine in this one was just too insecure for me. She has this young stud, a music teacher, who worships her and we have to go through pages of her worrying about being called his mom in public, what will her step-son in college think about it, then thinks about getting back with her ex, etc., etc. I'm getting too old for these type of books--I'd just count my blessings and screw myself till death do us part.
Blurb: Taboo. Wrong. Off limits. I know the drill. I know the rules. But damn, if he doesn’t get under my skin. And into my bed.
There’s no reason for a woman like me, Successful, established, independent, To ever be sleeping with a younger man. A younger man with a hard, rugged, sculptured body. A body that can go all night. All night.
I can’t resist, can’t turn him down. Can’t walk away. Because I’ve never known pleasure like this. Chase Nolan walked into my life and disrupted my perfect little world. And made it so much better.
Enjoy it while you can, Jillian. Because there’s no way there’s a future for us. After all, is he barely even legal?
I never enjoy writing these kind of reviews. I haven’t had to do it in a long time but either way, I don’t take it lightly. I read because I enjoy it and if I’m not enjoying it…then I need to stop reading. I struggled with the decision to DNF Legal for so many reasons but when I realized that I was just forcing every page…I had to stop because it was only making me resent the book more and that’s not fair.
I would love to say that I enjoyed the characters…the problem is, I didn’t know them well enough to enjoy or dislike them. I think that was part of my core problem with why I didn’t like the book – I was dropped into a story mid-way, with characters I don’t know and rather than feeding me information to help answer the questions I had (who, what, when, where, why) the story keeps going along like I should already know this information…but I didn’t. There were a few times when it felt like hints were dropped that I should pick up on for later…but it’s really hard to even focus on that when I have no idea WTF is going on period. It left me very confused and frustrated…and not in a good way.
The other key thing for me is emotion…I am an emotional reader to my core and I felt nothing for what was going on. It felt like all of the facts and none of the follow through and that was super key for me. Even the first sex scene…first of all, the couple has like a handful of sentences between them, they get in some contraption/ride that was never really explained, so I have absolutely no context for what’s going on there, then the next thing I know they’re making out and having sex in a closet. Really?!?! I truly felt like I missed something…cause even with what I knew about the heroine, that just did not match up for me…and with the missing element of the emotions, I couldn’t get a read on the scene at all.
There were a lot of times I wanted to like the dialogue, but once again it felt like I was missing a few facts, so sometimes it didn’t make sense for me. This combined with my overall confusion and lack of understanding left me feeling like the flow of the story was choppy and disjointed. Like I said, I really did try to push through, I felt like eventually things would be explained and all of my questions would get answered but when I had more questions than answers and I was still forcing each page, I had to make the decision to stop reading.
Not every book is for every reader, even I know that but it doesn’t make things any better when a book lover doesn’t connect with every book. Call me an idealist but that’s truly what I want! #InDenial I’m hoping that I’m in minority with this one because the blurb and the cover are really amazing and what pulled me in and I’m sad that I won’t get to see what happens with Jillian and Chase.
This was the first time reading anything by Bree Dahlia and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this touching story. Bree Dahlia has given us a story that will hold your interest from start to finish ,and than will leave you wanting more from this author. I really liked now Jillian was 38 years old and Chase was 23 years old these two characters were beautifully written ,she strong and really sexy ,and he's handsome and is sexy as all hell, and he's sweet and very lovable. This story is fun, sweet, sexy, light, and full of steam and laughs, with a pinch of angst. This is Jillian and Chase's touching story. Chase is a guy that knows what he wants and goes after it, and Jillian is a beautiful who's divorced and only thinks about her career. And thinking about an relationship isn't in the cards at this time, it's the last thing on her mind .That is until she meets Chase while at a music festival with sparking glances Chase decides right there that he wanted Jillian. But Jillian is 15 years older then him ,but he seems so much older and mature then his age. But Chase really knows what he likes and wants in a woman. As your reading this story, you will see Jillian struggling with her relationship with Chase .She believes and feels that she to old for him, and that their relationship isn't right. But the love that Chase makes her feel and the emotions are something she hasn't felt in a long time and they soon surface. I could tell you more about this touching story ,but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this story, you won't be disappointed.

Jillian is all business, all of the time. Having gone through a divorce the previous year, she now has a grown step-son that has moved out and throws herself into her work. Her best friend has decided Jillian needs a little fun and makes her go to the local festival. Into her life walks Chase who is much younger and she finds very attractive, much to her annoyance. As Jillian battles to give this fling a shot for the short term for pure enjoyment, she finds herself embarrassed by the age difference and can’t seem to get past it. Will Chase and Jillian keep their liaisons hidden behind closed doors or will he get her to accept that what they have may be more than just under covers?
“And since I liked him, I could respect myself in the morning.
'Do you know what you're doing to me right now?' he said.
I had some idea. I leaned in and kissed him, confirming exactly what I was doing to him. His hard cock pressed against me, and I needed it bad.
My new plan: Have as many casual one-nighters with Chase as possible."
Oh my sweet cheeks…this was a hot one. Cougar porn if I’ve ever read it. I enjoyed the actual romance of the book with the age gap and loved Chase’s view on life. The story really shows that you really need to pick the right person for you no matter what others think. Jillian just needed to face her insecurities in life and figure out what she really wanted. It was interesting how Mike kept trying to take the easy road no matter if that road was with Claire or Jillian. He just wanted to be taken care of with the least amount of drama as possible.
If you like an older heroine and the younger love interest, look no further. There aren’t a lot of these books out there. It’s sexy with a great hero and some real romance.
Legal... First off let me say this It was an amazing book to read. When you first start reading it comes off a bit slow. But as the story progresses it starts to pick up a bit of speed. Eventually it levels out to being about medium speed for a read. Now to get to the point The drama is real. The romance is strong. That need to feel comfortable in your own skin shows through with Jillian through out the book. Their connection is so strong that you are thinking throughout the whole story come on why are you just stating the obvious? Why have so much of the drama included when you can tell they are just meant to be? Then there is the Ex. He always seams to be trying to get her back by being manipulative throughout the story. He is trying to use the love of their kid to make it seem like it is the right thing to do. Jealousy also shows its face on many occasions. It doesn't come off strong in the beginning, but eventually it starts to build. There are a few times upon reading this amazing story that I wondered why doesn't she just punch the person instead of being cool headed and calm? Just as well through out she is in denial of the love she is staring to feel towards him. I feel if I say anything else I will be giving away too much of the story. If you are really wanting to read a good book with that bit of drama/romance than this is definitely for you. I hope that you enjoy this book just as much as I did.
***Disclosure: I received a copy in exchange for a review.***
What's Good: older woman & younger man hooking up for hot sex- what could be better? At least in theory. Story flows on a pretty even keel once it gets going, mostly via Jill's inner monologues about... everything. Despite the overload on angst it's generally amusing and does get pretty funny at times.
What's Bad: takes forever to get started. Spent too much time on doses of angst and things I guess the author was cute before finally getting into the story. Seemed pretty odd in the age of MILFs for an attractive, horny thirty-something woman to still be so self-conscious, especially with a gorgeous younger man drooling for her. This story played into the cliches & tropes way too much. And I still don't see how someone obviously over twenty-one was being mistaken for barely legal.
Sex scenes were brief- very brief and whils steamy, lacked steam. Sensual but non-specific, and all too short.
What's Left: an amusing, erotic and sweetly romantic story that could use a little less angst and more steam and explicitness.
Jillian is going on 40. She grew up fast. She also learned what happens when you fall in love with the wrong guy. To Jillian that means loving someone younger that you. Because let's face it her father was that man and did her mom wrong. It left emotional scars deep. Chase is the perfect man. He's a sexy musician and a school teacher. Only problem is he is also the younger man. He knows what he wants. When he sees Jillian for the first time, he knows it's her. But the thing is, he knows it's going to be tricky. He has to play his cards right. Can they have a solid relationship work? Between Jillian's hang ups. Their 15 year age difference being their main problem for her. Will she ending up pushing him away one to many times. I loved getting into Jillian's head. At first she kinda made me mad. I was thinking, 'girl get over it.' But to hear about her past made me understand her much more. The end made me wish for more. I was wanting to know what happen with Daniel. Overall this was a great read.
Bree Dahlia is a brand new author for me and someone to be on the lookout for. I am popping author cherries left and right these days and this is just another on my watch list. This book was a refreshing, quick read that left a big ol' smile on my face.
Fun, light, sexy, and sweet, Legal is a book full of steam and laughs with a dash of angst. Once I started, I didn't put this book down until I had devoured it... cover to cover. And the feels are real... I laughed, smiled, swooned, and fell head over heels in love.
Jillian is a divorcee, living her life for her work. She isn't interested in a relationship... well that is until one younger guy rocks her world... over and over again. Chase is hot, young, and off limits... or is he? Get ready for their journey to happy endings and true love.
In our society age is everything. From the start we are taught age means different things, different boundaries and so forth. So what happens when you live your life according to all the rules that come with it. And one day you find that your life wasn't very fulfilling. You play by the rules and yet you don't know what it's like to live. So one day you decide to say what the heck and you let loose. What happens when you realize that the age thing has been ingrained into you? Will Jillian allow herself to move forward with Chase? Or will she allow age to be the biggest factor in her life? I love Chase in this book. He is all about what he wants and doesn't allow preconceived notions get in his way. Will Jillian follow in his footsteps tho? This book is exciting and truly keeps you reading. You put yourself in Jillian's shoes and than you start yelling at her. You can see the obvious answer that she doesn't want to see. *Reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood*
Jillian is a divorcee drowning herself in work to avoid her empty house. Her ex and her son both gone- she finds work to fill her time. As she tells her best friend, she doesn't need a man.
And she doesn't. No, she doesn't. Just because she may have done the dumbest thing in her life doesn't show she needs a man. Though her lack of a man was definitely to blame for said mistake...
This mistake has a name. Chase. The obviously younger man is named Chase. Her big mistake is named Chase. Are you getting that she feels it was a mistake- or at least the Chase part? Because Jillian's "mistake" was a doozy. But it's ok because she will never see him again...
Ha ha ha! Or so she thought!
Getting over age being a number, abandonment issues, and preconceived notions are the only things standing between Jillian and happiness. Oh and herself.
I was given free copy for an honest review. I am so in love with chase, a sexy as hell young man who knows what he wants and goes for it. Caring, sweet, and funny. Jillian is a divorcee who is on her own for the fist time. She works to much and doesn't take anytime for herself, (the typical mom trap). When she meets Chase the connections is instant. Watching him on stage perform is electric. Jillian's soon to be sister in-law Perry meddles a lot and it's so comical how she operates. She is much needed voice of reason for Jillian. Can Jillian get out of her head long enough to appreciate what she and Chase have? Or will all she see is the age difference? Quick, fun, laugh out loud funny book!
Funny and sexy all wrapped up in one great debut! Jillian — LOVED her character!! She was a hardworking woman that needed to put herself first for once! What better person to let her guard down with than Chase? I felt their connection so I rooted for him from the very beginning! Of course, I understood her hesitation, but he was so SEXY that I also understood why she needed to GO FOR IT!
With genuinely laugh-out-loud moments, LEGAL was a book I truly enjoyed reading! I cannot wait to see what Bree Dahlia has up her sleeve next!
This was a great story of an older woman/younger man. Chase knew what he wanted but Jillian was insecure with the age difference because of childhood memories. She couldn't deny the incredible chemistry between them. Grab a copy and see what happens.
3.5 stars What happens when you are a 30 something year old women, who is starting over in the dating world after a divorce and an empty nest??? Jillian is about to find out that and a lot more!!
Jillian never imagined being divorced and all alone. Her husband is off my his new girlfriend and their son is away in a college program in Italy. Jillian is out with her friend (who drags her out under protest) and meets Chase. Their chemistry is instant, but keep in mind, Jillian is pout of practice when it comes to dating and sex outside of her long term marriage. Chase could be what she needs to get back in the game.
Chase is hot and young....er. Jillian knows he is younger than her, but not how much. When she gives into her desires and sneaks off with him for a quickie, she never thinks she would see him again. She just made a spur of the moment decision, listening to her needs and not her brain!
I love Chase. He knew what he wanted from the start and pursued Jillian with everything he had. Chase is no dummy. He knew she was older and didn't care. The heart wants, what the heart wants. Chase just needs to make Jillian realize that age is just a number and what they could have could be fun and forever.
I thought the story was cute. I was a little weirded out by the age difference, I am not gonna lie. She is 38 and he is 23. Chase is almost the same age as her son!! I personally wouldn't do it, but good for Jillian!!
This is one of those books that has a very realistic feel and is so easy to ride along the journey of the story right with our main character, Jillian. She makes a very unlike-her, spontaneous decision to have a one-night stand that rocks her world. Not only is it the most satisfying world-tilting sex she has ever had, but it was with a much younger man... so young, she fears he may not be legal. As a divorcee that hasn't dated since becoming single after a long-time passionless marriage, doing something like that has made her a mess of confusion, desire, and self-recrimination. She tries to convince herself that she will move on after the encounter, that she will avoid seeing him, but they keep crossing paths.
She is very insecure about her age difference to Chase, our leading man, and what everyone else may think about how they might look together. Chase sees nothing but Jillian. The age difference doesn't phase him in the least. Can Jillian get over her insecurities and fears before it's too late? Will Chase lose his patience? To what lengths will Jillian go to hide their relationship and will there be consequences?
WOW! What an amazing new author for me. I’ve not read Bree before but I can say I will be adding her books to my TBR list!
Legal is really fantastic!!! Not only are there very strong characters but the back characters are amazing too!! Her BFF is just too much!!! I don’t normally like being in the characters head too much but I found Jillian so funny it was ok. It’s not overkill…..there is conversation…..but being in her head was a trip!
I loved Chase! You would think he would be immature and hard to connect with….but the writing is so amazing that he’s amazing!
The only thing I can say bad is that I think it could have been longer, maybe even a 2- or 3-book series. More of both main characters back story and even more with the BFF’s story (a wedding scene would have been amazing), maybe even a future epilogue? But as it is it’s an amazing standalone book!!!
I want to end this with JUST GO READ this book!!!! You won’t be sorry!
A book about an older woman Jillian who is divorced and is 38. She works at home and is really focused on her business. She also raised her ex-husband's son from the age of two and he is now nineteen. She meets Chase who is 23 at a club after he played guitar for a band, she listened to two. After a hot night together, she is surprised when he tracks her down and wants to spend more time with her. She talks herself into one night which slowly becomes more. She definitely did not want to date even though Chase wanted to. He was able to take her out once but she was not comfortable. I think she is like a lot of people who don’t see themselves as attractive and it did not help that she had a neighbor who was always talking about aging. Listening to her instead of her friend. Just when you think everything is okay, she blows it at a function and afterward Chase walks away. She then had her ex to stay for a week which turns into almost a month. Really it was him taking boxes to a donation site which he had no business doing yet, then she comes out of her funk. Her grand jester to win him back was very good and for the most part, I enjoyed the book and the characters. I just was not ready for the story to be continued in another book. Though I received this book for free, I read so many books over 250 just this year, now I have to go and hunt down another book and I am already behind on reviews. I will say I enjoyed the book and read it in one night and overall it was a good story. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
This was an amazing read. I've never read an older woman/younger man as good as Legal. Chase is 15 years younger than Jillian but he doesn't care. He sees a beautiful woman and he goes after what he wants. Jillian sees a sexy, young man who she has no business dating as he's only 3 years older than her stepson. This is the main issue throughout the whole book but it was so beautifully and thoughtfully written. It was a wonderful read and although a second book follows, this can easily be read as a Stand-alone. But why stop here? Why not read more of the amazing Bree's writing?!
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.
If a man is a lot older than a girl he is in the good old boy's club. Why the double standard often love is involved. I think it is what makes you happy. Brew Dahl writes a very good book, well worth your time.
She created great characters that easily drew you in and really made you care about them. I'm ready to move on to the next story to see how their lives and love continues to play out.
I think I enjoyed reading as much as the author enjoyed sitting it! A true September, May romance. He is 23 she is 38. Great story. Easy to get into. It is part of a series but you don't have to read any others but you will want too!
