A mind shattered by torture… A body broken by war… Is love strong enough to heal their wounds?
Alice Sheffield roams the isolated fields of England, searching for her lost pieces. She wants to be whole again but doesn't know how. Until a catalyst for change enters her life. Captain Seamus Muir was injured in the charge of Waterloo. He retreats to his friend's rural farm to lick his wounds and contemplate his lack of prospects. Renowned for his cold detachment, he is fascinated by broken Alice and the heat she stirs within him. Then fate presents an opportunity. In bringing an old foe to justice Seamus might find a path for his life and Alice could confront her demons and reclaim her peace. But to do that, two broken people must heal each other, or shattered pieces will be lost forever.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. Four friends in the Scotland Greys militia face danger and intrigue as they search for an Englishman turned traitor and spy. Each novel features one of the friends and the woman he claims as his own. Each novel is linked to the next as an intricate and exciting tale unfolds. This story about Seamus and Alice is my favorite of the four, although they were all very good. But this book isn't just the conclusion to the story, it is also about healing, forgiveness, and second chances. I strongly recommend that you read this series. I can't wait for the author to write more.
This fourth book of the series is quite good there are several typos that were a trial to read through. The broken mind of the heroine and the physical impairment of the hero made for an interesting plot. The plot was well thought out and characters very well developed. I think I can definitely recommend this book.
I liked this one but it did seem to ramble. If we had to read one more time of Alice trying to overcome her brokenness, I mean yes it was hard to overcome. Got it, now move on. This could have been a much shorter story. And the e nd still left us hanging, but even so, I did like it.
This book had a different feel than the others. It was more about healing and new beginnings. I wish it had more updates on all of the couples, like five years in the future. Perhaps one day there will be an Epilogue for the entire series. Altogether a satisfying book and series.
Wonderful series. I read all four books. Hated to finish the series about the four Scottish soldiers and their loves. All the stories are different and well written.
