Calvin Barnard is a hard-working New York stockbroker, focused entirely on his job. His life is simple until the day he gets a call from the lawyer of his late Great-Aunt Loretta. The great-aunt he barely knew has left him $10 million and a house in the tiny backwoods Oregon town of Carterville—but there's one condition. Before Calvin can get the money, he has three months to marry a girl from that same rural town. Suddenly, everything is complicated, as Calvin tries to figure out how his reclusive great-aunt had millions of dollars, what he’s going to do with her old dusty mansion, and which small-town girl will be willing to marry him on short notice. Interior designer Ellie Parker looks like the perfect solution to his She’s beautiful, single, and available to fix up the old house. But when Calvin starts to feel more than sympathy for sweet Ellie, he’ll have to decide between the inheritance of a lifetime or the love of the most enchanting woman he’s ever met.
Emily Walters lives in California with her beloved husband, three daughters, and two dogs. She began writing after high school, but it took her ten long years of writing for newspapers and magazines until she realized that fiction is her real passion.
Emily likes to create a mental movie in her reader's mind about charismatic characters, their passionate relationships and interesting adventures.
When she isn't writing romantic stories, she can be found reading a fiction book, jogging, or traveling with her family. She loves Starbucks, Matt Damon and Argentinian tango.
In an Oyster Shell - A short and sweet satisfying romance.
The Pearls - The concept of the book was fun. An inheritance with a catch. A marital catch at that is really fun. Calvin having to marry someone in 3 months time to inherit money is really fun. It reminds me of one of my favorite movies Brewster's millions. Though the concept of marriage is not in the movie having a clause to a major inheritance is the same.
The romance was sweet and unexpected for the characters. Calvin thinks he's going to find a get rich quick marriage. He doesn't expect to fall in love. It was a fun twist and a main component to the book.
The theme of not waiting until you lose out in love is appropriate for Calvin. Learning from his aunt's story he is able to make better choices. It's a great theme.
The Sand - It was really short, could have been filled out a little more.
Emily Walters will provide a story line in INVESTMENT IN LOVE that one will not be able to stop reading after beginning the first page. Her love story is written without sexual detail, so it can be read by young adults, too. Looking forward to reading more of her books.
Great short story of Ellie and Calvin. Small town girl meets city slicker. Calvin need to Barry in order to get his inheritance. But Calvin falls in love and decides to forego his inheritance since he found true love. Ellie pushes for the wedding not wanting to live without Calvin and not knowing about the inheritance. Funny how things work out.
My Review: This is one of the nicest rustic love stories I have ever read. The only problem for me was narrative style (you guys know I have a hard time reading like this) tho the story is so lovely I couldn’t put it down. It covers a lifetime change for Calvin. You get to follow the events that at the end brought Calvin and Ellie together. You fall in love with Carterville. The theme of inheritance is slowly forgotten because what happens in the book and the character’s reactions to all those events. All you see are these two people who find themselves liking each other a bit too much and who are scare of letting those feelings go on when both have different lives. Calvin’s fights for stop falling for Ellie falls the second their bond starts to get genuine and stronger. And then when things are getting so great between them, Ellie finds out about the condition to get the money and she thinks he played her. So, one minute I was frowning upon how Calvin treated Ellie and the other I was cheering for them like a mad-woman. This is what this book does to you. As it changes Clavin’s perceptions on what really matters, it change yours as well. It opens your mind to situations you’d have normally dismissed without giving it a second chance, and of course it give us a very cute story of love and lifetime changes.
This was a wonderful read. This story shows that people from different walks of life can fall in love with each other. Please take time to read this book as I am sure you will enjoy it.
Catchy title, cute cover, and a creative storyline. Execution? Not great. The dialog in some spots didn't really make sense nor did some of the reactions of the characters.
