Jonathan Hickman is an American comic book writer and artist. He is known for creating the Image Comics series The Nightly News, The Manhattan Projects and East of West, as well as working on Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four, FF, and S.H.I.E.L.D. titles. In 2012, Hickman ended his run on the Fantastic Four titles to write The Avengers and The New Avengers, as part the "Marvel NOW!" relaunch. In 2013, Hickman wrote a six-part miniseries, Infinity, plus Avengers tie-ins for Marvel Comics. In 2015, he wrote the crossover event Secret Wars. - Wikipedia

Black Monday Murders is probably my favorite current comic at the moment. This story is confusing and the writer does not give the reader all the answers. The reader has to put forth some effort to understand the character's relationship to each other and what is going on some. Hickman writes The Black Monday Murders in an unapologetic way that could only be done by someone with such a huge success as Hickman. At its heart is a detective story of a man figuring out the conspiracy of the leaders of the world's economy. If you like conspiracy theories, economic intrigue, detective stories, and philosophical ideas dealing with the power of money, check this out.

Mystery deepens and story gets very engaging

This tightly plotted, 56 page occult conspiracy thriller is, at only its second issue, easily my favourite title currently being published in comics (toppling the still fantastic Invisible Republic from my top spot).

Fans of Jonathan Hickman can expect everything we have come to expect from him at his best. It's so quintessentially him from design to dialogue and beyond, every word carefully chosen, and every page perfectly aligned, with Easter eggs and clues to the great mystery carefully placed throughout.

One thing I love about Hickman unleashed, writing his own titles with creative control, is he has found ways to tell stories in comics that simply cannot be perfectly adapted to any other medium. His is a celebration of the medium, using it to its full end, from story, to ink, to staples.

This is a story of international financial conspiracy and the spiritual forces behind their corruption. I highly recommend it, but this is one that can't be joined part way through. Go find the reprints of the first three issues, or wait until the inevitably huge first trade paperback.

This goes for Volumes 1 & 2: I really like the myth behind the Black Monday Murders. If only the execution (ha) would have brought out more of that myth! A non-negligible amount of effort went into developing the myth about the history of worship of Mannon and its tie-in to modern banking. To have it all obscured by image after image of supernatural power-gathering and senseless trying-to-be-edgy gore was a disappointment. I'll still read Volume 3 to see what comes out, and still hope that someone may pick up the pieces to fill out the rest of the story in another graphic novel or more classic form.

This was a great continuation to the story we were told in Issue 1, adding a little more depth, a little more mystery, and some new questions to consider for the future. Again, the plotting, storytelling, illustrations and continuity of plot were on point. It felt like a nice well-rounded chapter in a longer story, each issue adding more to the plot. Really looking forward to reading more.

getting better; slow build

Confession time. I picked this up and read it feeling like I was missing some key piece to the puzzle. I respect that not everything is handed out to me. And there's enough to grasp most of what's going on. I still felt a bit short-changed.

Well, my sin is: this is issue #2. I thought it was the first issue. So keeping in mind that I now must track down the opening issue -- I did enjoy this a lot. The writing is very intelligent, without being pretentious. I could follow along to grasp character motivations in each scene and I appreciate how they played out. This is really strongly written.

I've got a lot to look forward to, filling in the gaps.

One of the best things I have read from Jonathan Hickman in a long time. Reminds me of what if East of West and Seven had a child together, The Black Monday Murders would be that child!!!! I can not get over how amazing the artwork and story lines are. There are so many details going on, I almost feel as though after reading the issue the first time through that I need to stop, take a deep breath, think about everything and then reread it. There are so many twists and turns and loads of information and we are only in the second issue. I really can not wait to see what more this series has to offer.
