With friends like Anderson, will Jason finally be happy with who and what he is?
*This is a Friends to Lovers, Gay for You M/M Romance with a HEA ending*
This could have been so cute. But, because of editing, it wasn't. At first Jason is taller than Anderson. then Anderson is taller than Jason.. and it goes back and forth. It was very annoying. And don't even start on the "normal"crap.
There seems to be this recurring theme with the books I decide to read. There is great potential at the beginning, which then turns to a two star read. I think it's because writers tend to have great ideas and therefore they spend time with setting up the story and sometimes the rest gets neglected.
I liked the theme of "normal". How Jason was so focused on this normalcy that he lived sort of blindfolded. And then there was Anderson, who challenged Jason's self-image.
Only that's not what ended up happening.
Jason went from hot to cold and back again. He guarded the secret of his frined who had died but then had told about him to his girlfriend, who wasn't his girlfriend. He was a solitary guy who had friends around all the time and he had huge issues about being gay until he had one date and then he was in love.
Wut.
I used my potential tag, because I really believe there was potential. Jason started off as interesting and sympathetic and he would have made a compelling MC if there had been more substance to the story.
Rescuing Anderson following a gay bashing, Jason never thought the man he invited home for one night would end up invading his home and his life. College students, one gay, one straight, there was no issue until one drunken kiss had Jason questioning himself and avoiding his roommate.
Now Jason is having a rough time with his girlfriend, who is pulling away from him and avoiding Anderson. Can their friendship survive Jason's refusal to be true to himself? Anderson asks for one date to prove they can be together. Where will this lead them?
Once again, if you like GFY stories that end in HEA, here's another for you.
I was given this book in exchange for a honest review so here it is. I liked this story quite a bit. Story line was good, characters were a bit complex and developed. Felt the story could have been a little more in depth as their relationship became deeper. Jason, straight college guy who denied any leanings towards being gay or even thinking of men. He even had a girl friend that seemed to be there because he was trying to convince himself that his portrayal of himself was true. But then Anderson, a gay college boy, came into Jason's home and eventually into his life. The two got along well as best friends, but Anderson's thoughts and actions began to say he wanted more with Jason. Even Jason's girlfriend tried to convince him that he could be gay. This was a coming out story. Would have liked more, but all in all it was a good read.
I enjoyed this short story. But it seemed like something was missing. I don't know what either. It was well written with good basis to be a good read. The characters were well written but their introduction to each other and then the living arrangement just seemed slightly far fetched. The struggle one of the MCs had with his sexuality didn't seem that realistic. There was a slight flashback to his past and a previous same sex experience but nothing else. I will read more from this author as the writing had promise and I have enjoyed previous books by them.
Sorry, this was just not very good... I was going to rate it a 2 for "It's OK" until I got to the end, which like someone else said, was rushed... Jason is very unsure until the last pages and then there are I Love Yous? Ummmm no... it was just weird. The writing also left a bit to be desired... it gave me a feeling of being told about a story, not being drawn into it. I felt separated, I didn't feel there and experiencing it with them. I think it had potential... but it just really fell short.
2.5 stars. Overall I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read. I really liked the character of Anderson. I would have really enjoyed more depth in this book. It seemed very flat. I found the ending to be rushed and unsatisfactory.
I would definitely be willing to try another book by this author. This book just didn't live up to my expectations. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The book was great, but I felt when it started to get to the good stuff, the emotions coming through etc. It was rushed. He went from scared, to a date to acceptance. I would have liked more details as to how he finally accepted he was gay. The writing was pretty good as well.
Please hire a beta reader or an editor to go through your work before publishing. The story was cute but there were so many dropped words and poorly constructed sentences that it was difficult to get through. The ending also felt a bit rushed compared to the build of the gentle romance throughout the beginning and middle of the book.
This book is not your typical romance. It a story of coming put and the term oil that a guy faces when he denies being gay. It a love story when Anderson stays next to his guy and supports him the best he can. It's a must read especially if you like romance.
