Dekker Callan is content with his life though he knows something is missing. Wanting the kind of love his friends share with their partners, Dekker is talked into taking part in a modeling and dating show as part of a fundraiser. He immediately falls in love with the anonymous, sexy voice on the other side of the wall, but fate has a surprise in store–his mystery man isn’t single.

Slade Gannon wasn’t supposed to take part in the dating show. That spot was for his roommate, Phil, who becomes ill and asks Slade to take his place. Slade has just recently gone through a breakup with his cheating boyfriend, George. Shocked and pleased when he wins the interest of handsome Dekker Callan, before he can go on the obligatory blind date, his ex asks for a second chance. Believing Dekker can’t possibly be as good on the inside as he looks on the outside, Slade agrees.

Dekker and Slade hit it off immediately, drawn to each other despite Slade being involved with someone else. They finally get their opportunity to be together when Slade finds out his boyfriend is still cheating, but just as they seem to discover the happiness they’ve been waiting for, George throws them one last hurdle—and this one may prove to be insurmountable.

TWO HEARTS--I have no shame in admitting, I jumped to read this because there was cheating mentioned in the blurb. Warning: there is on page sex between an MC and another character.

(Good) cheating romances aren't easy to find. Unabashedly doing whatever to get the other person...even if it means to break another's heart? It can make for a strong story. A lot of times when there is cheating in a romance, the author will cop out, try to make it the new person's fault for the other person who is currently in a relationship for stepping out.

Basically, blame game is supposed to be the stand in for passion. The old 'I wasn't myself, you made me do it' excuse.

You can find a version of that in Blind Date. For readers who need the protagonists to not admit to being guilty or owning up to their feelings from the start, Blind Date might be a choice for you.

Dekker Callan falls for a guy's voice during a charity dating auction. He wasn't allowed to see his contestants. He meets his choice, Slade Gannon on their blind date and falls for him after a conversation of shallow small talk. Slade just got back with his boyfriend...even though he feels something too for Dekker. And is upfront about it.Which kind of makes him a jerk but I can understand where he came from after the first date. Days of flirting stretched into weeks to try to move the story along, painting Slade's boyfriend George as a possessive cheater and liar though...pretty suspect for me.

First time author Kay Doherty read like...a first time author's effort to me. There were too many characters (who were also unofficial mind readers), too much superficial, poor development and over the top antics. Plus, instalove.

I tried to like this book. But it was a sinking ship when one of the MC's declared, "I'll start my seduction then. I'm gonna...I'm gonna eat food and make him wish it was him, and then I'll win".

And it kept sinking with contradicting antics from the characters like Dekker who told the reader he was outgoing and acted shy. Or declaring he was going to "go full force" in seducing Slade and by the next paragraph declaring he wasn't going to "force the issue".

The ex-boyfriend got crazier as the story progressed, though his behavior and the characteristics had me question his purpose for the story. Without him, the story has no conflict. And is just a lot of 'I can tell by the way you listened to his voice, he's perfect for you'

Rather than go into all of the quotes that I quibbled with. I'll just leave a few questions.

Simple questions: Do most friends waltz into bathrooms while showering and talk to each other naked? [Take out them being men as a factor] Or make out with each other (while in relationships) to make their sad friend feel better? Or know exactly what you're thinking by looking at you? Why was everyone able to read each other's mind, know exactly what they were thinking and thought exactly the same?

*tilts head*

Something about the way the men interacted with one another read unnatural to me. The thin romance, the extreme HEA...nothing worked for me. If I don't find anything remotely worthy in either MC, I'm not invested into whatever is dished out. One guy is a adult toy store owner, the other is a wine and gallery owner. The fact that their jobs read tacked on and no development was given to either guy, more attention was paid to having cute twins and their hot buff boyfriends parade about... read paper thin. The premise was interesting, the delivery didn't work for me.

I know I'm not the right reader for this writing style. It's in the same vein of Stormy Glenn/Scarlet Hyacinth/Joyee Flynn which has a solid readership. Fans of that band of authors, might enjoy Kay Doherty's efforts.

The story isn't bad. I'd be curious to see a story from this author, after a lot more books under her belt. But I'm pretty sure, this is a one time deal for me.

If you prefer not be invested in the characters, just want a solid HEA with an over the top/left field plot twist thrown in...check out Blind Date.

Dekker and Slade are hooked up on a blind date through a charity event. Dekker has never seen Slade but he heard his sexy voice and liked his responses at the blind Q&A. Slade is actually just filling in for his roommate. He's recently single and doing a favor for a friend. Although, after seeing Dekker, he's as excited about the date as he can be.

It's such a cute premise. It starts out great from Dekker's POV reluctantly participating in the event. I felt myself falling for Dekker from the very beginning. Him and all of his friends seemed like an awesome bunch.

When we finally heard from Slade, I was as intrigued as Dekker himself. The chemistry between these two was quick and intense but also fun with a happy feel to it. I was a little shocked at Slade's reveal during the date, but I assumed the guys would work it out somehow.

It was easily a five star read for me until just after the 80% mark. Then, unfortunately, there were a few things that I didn't enjoy as much in the story. Without revealing too much, I have to say that I found Slade's reaction after the "incident" out of character and completely OTT. After that, the "I love you's" came out of the blue and the final scene, while sweet, felt just thrown in for kicks and grins.

It's a little hard to rate a book I liked 80% of because the last 20% is such an important part that influences how I feel when I turn the last page. It's a sweet little story but I think it would have worked better longer with the ending more fleshed out.

A free copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

It started off really well but from there it went down hill for me. Dekker gets pulled into doing this charity event where he has to model and dating game for a friend. Readers get to see some of his character traits and it is endearing. Also his friends are pretty awesome and it's cool that they're secure enough to allow each other to be so touchy feely. I digress however, he gets pulled into the event and when it comes to the Q&A of the dating show he finds himself attracted to the voice of one of the contestants. He ends up picking that guy for his blind date.

Slade is the guy who won the blind date with Dekker. Before the two can even go on their blind date, Slade reconciles with his ex...well no so ex-boyfriend, George. With George's permission, the two decide Slade should still go on the date with Dekker.

This becomes a problem when Slade and Dekker feels a strong attraction to each other. The two can barely keep their hands off each other on the date but do so when Slade lets it drop that he's in a relationship. However, Slade is a glutton for punishment and doesn't want the night ruined and suggest they go dancing. A kiss later and the two know they can't go forward without Slade cheating. The two go their separate way but Dekker knows what he feels for Slade can be a long time deal between them so concocts to steal Slade away from his boyfriend.

This was such a frustrating read for me. As I said it started out great. Dekker's interaction with his friends and their care for each other were a treat. Heck, even Dekker and Slade were great to read except I had that nagging little voice in the back of my mind that Slade was a cheater. Yes, his boyfriend was a jerk but Slade's decision to continue on after feeling what he felt for Dekker was just a load of crock. I was incensed for for quite a time towards the end of the book. The situation that resulted from Slade not taking action sooner just made me dislike Slade. I really lost respect for him when he left Dekker as he did because he felt guilty/hurt over George.

A blind date, a second chance, a forever happiness...but not all necessarily with the same person. Dekker Callan is up for auction, for a good cause of course, and he wants nothing to do with the spotlight. But when his blind date has the sexiest voice he's ever heard, he's willing to change his mind. When Slade Gannon turns out to be the kind of man he can see forever with he thinks his lonely streak is about to end. Except nothing is ever that simple. Dekker and Slade have a bit of a bumpy road to earn their forever and not everyone is happy with what they could have. It's jealousy and a bit of mania that push someone to violently voice that opinion and if Slade and Dekker can't stand together against the drama, they may not survive to be together at all.

I enjoyed Dekker's shyness and reserved attitude. It's kind of a favorite theme of mine to have someone be very physically attractive but either not realize it or act like it. Dekker objectively knows he's good looking but he doesn't use it as a tool nor does he even really acknowledge the extent of that attractiveness. That attitude carries into the way he approaches relationships. He gives everything of himself without playing games or holding anything back. When he sets his sights on Slade despite the circumstances I was rooting for him all the way. Even when things took a dramatic turn I felt that he was mature and saw the bigger picture framed around all his battered heart's yearnings and wouldn't accept a future that didn't include the man he knows is just right for him.

Slade, on the other hand, started off strong. Yes, he put himself in a less-than-ideal situation but he was trying to maintain his morals while struggling with his intense draw to Dekker. Once the date came to a close, though, I was shocked at how he reacted. What he did at the club after Slade left was completely opposite to what he said he was about during his date and in his inner thoughts. And then when he left the club? Even worse. I get that he was in a relationship with George but to do what he did while knowing his heart and mind are being pulled in a different direction was childish, immature, and frankly, appalling. I lost respect for him at such an early stage in the story that it was nearly impossible to recover. He never did make it all the way back for me, sadly. He avoided confrontation of almost every kind, especially the kind that meant he'd need to really sort through his feelings and thoughts to make the best and right choice.

In terms of the story as a whole, it would have been much better if it was focused on the building of a relationship between Dekker and Slade. We get nothing for the weeks of separation, hot and intense moments when they meet up, hints of more of Slade's sexual activity with his boyfriend while Dekker makes his pining very clear, and a whole lot of unnecessary drama. Dekker's pursuit of Slade should have taken up most of the story along with Slade's shedding of his blinders and fears. What we get, however, is not nearly enough to cement a forever kind of happiness between them and a huge dramatic confrontation that was completely unessential. The event didn't do anything to draw the characters closer together nor did it make them see what life would be like without the other. And the emotional fall-out wasn't actually dealt with either. I'm not sure if I can properly convey my frustration over this needless addition and the lack of focus on what would have made Dekker and Slade solid as individuals and as a couple.

Despite that little rant about stuff that shouldn't have been in the story and the stuff that should have been included instead, I thought this had a really great premise and a lot of promise. I really enjoyed Dekker and the side characters. I loved the ending and thought the reunion and epilogue were fantastic. Overall this wasn't a bad story at all, just needed some streamlining and a lot of focus on what really mattered.

Blind Date

by Kay Doherty

This book was provided by the author via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review.

Dekker's friend Alek recruits him to model and participate in a dating game show.

Dekker is shy and lacks self-confidence. He's aware men find him attractive, but he doesn't get his own appeal. He longs for a man he can form an emotional connection with...

Enter contestant four. The man has a deep, sexy voice and he asks questions that aren't just about sex. Dekker is sold.

The dialog is a bit stilted during their date. For someone who thought the game show guys were shallow, Dekker is suddenly hung up the entire time about what Slade sounds like in bed. It seems out of character after the initial setup.

Slade has a secret. He's just gotten back together with his cheating ex-boyfriend. They can do the date for charity, but he's not free to follow-up.

When Dekker finds out about George, Slade's not-so-ex-boyfriend, he's all over the place -- jealous, irrationally angry, willing to listen, sad it didn't work out, but seconds later, abruptly offering to let Slade pick up the next tab. The next? What a rollercoaster.

One of the primary issues I'm having getting into the book:

Cheating isn't a trope I enjoy, and at this point, Dekker has basically decided he's going to get Slade to dump George. (If he'll do it to the other guy, he'll do it to you, Dek.) Not very romantic in my opinion.

Personally what the men do at the club constitutes infidelity, which makes me like Slade a bit less -- basically very dirty grinding. If his offer to George is legitimate, it seems unfaithful.

Then Slade goes home to George. I'm not sure why it was really needed in detail, frankly, other than an insight into Slade's thoughts...

Is George still a cheater?

Can Dekker win Slade over?

This really isn't my cuppa. Sans specific spoilers, I'm not into some of the cheating and emotional infidelity themes. If those themes don't bother you, full steam ahead. There's a bit of dubcon with George at one point that doesn't get too far off the ground.

The men act very young at times, if someone doesn't call you one time, find out why instead of crying. Don't run away from emergency situations. It's just not behavior I expect from an adult male who is mature enough to run two buisnesses. I'm maybe being harsh. On the positive side, I am interested in Dekker's other friends. Rex and Tony in particular. I'd give the series another chance.

I don't want to get specific about the ending, but the overall high school drama feel doesn't abate. The technical skills are there, the character descriptions are compelling, but I just wasn't able to feel this plotline. I give the story 2. 5/5

I wasn't really sure what I was going to think of this book. While it had mixed reviews, some of my like-minded friends really enjoyed it.

There were many unexpected, pleasant surprises in this book, from the interesting meanderings within the storyline to the charismatic personality of one of the MCs, Dekker. It took me a little while to get into the story and to develop an affinity toward any of the characters, including Dekker. However, the more I read about Dekker, the more he grew on me. The more he grew on me, the more I found myself immersed in the story.

There was really only one downside to this book for me, but unfortunately, it was a big one. That sizeable blemish was the other MC, Slade. I found him annoying from the get-go and downright unlikable at times. Selfish, indecisive, hypocritical and whiny Slade.... not a worthy match for my man, Dekker. It was frustrating to see such a great guy set his sights on someone so undeserving of that level of devotion. Then again, we've all seen friends barrel full steam ahead into train-wreck relationships, so in that vein, it was pretty realistic.

This was so much better then I thought it was going to be. It was cute, sweet, and I couldn’t put it down once I started it.

I loved Dekker’s determination. He knew what he wanted and though Slade had a douche of a boyfriend he knew he had to wait for him.

Slade is conflicted and with good reasons. He is honest, sweet and loves having fun.

While timing sucks the two men are impatiently waiting to see what will happen.

I received this book for free via the Don’t Buy My Love read for review program on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

Dekker Callan reluctantly agrees to do a friend’s charity dating fundraiser. He immediately falls for one of the contestants voice, as they are hidden from his view. Dekker, or Dek as he’s known by his friends, meets Slade Gannon for the first time on the date. It’s instant attraction and instant sparks. Dek’s hopes for a blossoming relationship are dashed when Slade tells him he has a boyfriend. Dek is understandably angry that Slade, who was supposed to be single is taken, but becomes determined to make Slade his. Slade feels the attraction too and doesn’t want to end their night so he invites Dek to go dancing. What Dek doesn’t know is that the boyfriend Slade just got back with is a cheating piece of crap who didn’t treat Slade very well, but Slade decided to give a second chance. Things get really hot while they dance, prompting them to keep their distance between each other. Dek gets to meet Slade and George as a couple and it’s clear George is a total jerk and their relationship is not all that happy. Dek and Slade have an opportunity to work together, which enrages George and sets his jealousy off. It nearly costs Dek his life. Slade sees George for what he is and we finally get the happily ever after we’ve been waiting for. The epilogue is the icing on the cake.

It is a syrupy sweet story. It’s also a bit of an instalove story if that’s something that bothers you. It also has a cheating scene. Slade kisses Dek while he’s dating George. But oh my god is it smoking hot! I thought there were some slight inconsistencies here and there, but to be honest, the story was so good and the characters were all so likable that I didn’t really notice all that much and pretty much glossed right over them. This was an excellent book if you want a hot and sexy story of two guys falling hard and fast for each other. I would definitely recommend it.

***Super Cute!***

This is an adorable quick read. Dekker is pretty much conned into being auctioned for a blind date as part of a fundraising effort. His awkwardness about the entire situation is incredibly amusing. Slade isn’t supposed to be part of the dating game at all, but takes the place of his sick friend and roommate, Phil, and unsurprisingly ends up being the one picked. One problem - Slade and his ex just got back together! What’s a boy to do?? Well, he sucks it up and tells his current boyfriend the truth, and then goes on his date with Dekker. What happens after that? You’ll have to read the book!

The plot is fun - I loved the entire actual date setup, as it was quite unique in activities!! The pacing is a bit off because it’s difficult to tell how much time is passing between interactions. That’s fairly typical of a first book, though, so no big deal to me. The main characters are witty, intelligent, and enjoyable, and happily, so are the peripheral characters! The ending was rather abrupt with a large time gap in it, and was the only part that kind of bothered me. For a first book, I must say that Ms. Dougherty crafted a very good one! Give her a try - I’ll definitely be watching for what’s next up her sleeve!

This was a quick but super sweet, super cute love story! Our two main characters Dekker Callan, the man up for the bidding at the fundraiser his friends put him up to, and Slade Gannon, who stepped in a sick friend's place when he thought he was available to take part. But Slade ends up not single and Dekker ends up interested in more. What can they do but step away and move on with their lives…

I loved how silly and awkward Dekker feels through the whole modeling and dating show because come on who wouldn’t?!?! But he did good and knew right away that he wanted whoever was behind the voice of bachelor (or not) number four. Slade starts to regret his decision to take back his ex after getting to know Dekker a little better, realizing the man behind the good looks is more than he bargained for.

The overall storyline was fun and fast paced and instant lust with a potential for more feeling between these two guys. The date they went on wasn’t your typical which speaks to who these guys are which is part of how they fit together. The author gave us fun and mischievous secondary characters that were fun to watch with Dekker but you can tell he has a good group of friends. I thought Rex’s t-shirts he loaned or gave to Dekker were super funny and awesome!

The ending was quick the rest of the story and the lovey stuff was sweet and corny but it worked for these two guys. Oh and the smexy scenes were filled of that hot tension we all love. Overall a great book for a first time author and will definitely be watching in the future for more from her.

Okay this was hot. Like smoking UST, and desire wrapped in one.

So this was my first read from this author, and I'm pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it alot. I typically don't go for blind date tropes, but I read the excerpt and I was interested. Dekker! Good lawd, that man did 100% turnabout in my mind. He went from this shy guy, to the exertive guy knowing what he wants. I mean, it was sexy to see a man pursue someone like Slade. Slade dropping the bomb that he was in a relationship at the beginning of the story made it interesting. I wanted to see how these two were going to act, and if the author would have been bold and have someone cheated. I would have been fine with cheating it happens in real life. I like that Dekker kinda checked Slade and state that just because he was pursuing him didn't mean he was going to act on his feelings until the relationship was ended.

Slade kinda confused me, I don't know if getting back with his ex was because he was lonely, or because he cared. I get taking him back for the amount of time to see if it would have worked, but he didn't have a kind thing to say about George. These are some friendly guys in this story. The are all willing free with their bodies and kisses. I liked it. I thought the flow and pacing of the story was just right, and I really liked the writing style. I did feel at times it was prolonged for no reason. Some of the content could have been cut for me, but that's my preference. I look forward to more from this author!.

I received a copy of this title to read and review for Wicked Reads

3.5 Stars.

Blind date was a flirty, lusty little novella, perfect for a few hours of escapism. Obviously the blind date premise has been done before, but there was a new-take on it with the 'Dating Game' auction, then the events surrounding the 'date'.

Dekker was a solid character, and I was pulling for him throughout the novel. Slade was a bit too wishy-washy for my tastes, but I did like him as a character. Together, there was a nice combination of push-pull romance, scorching hot chemistry, and palpable tension.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. But my only complaint was the fact that I assumed all of the characters mentioned, who truly weren't explained to the reader, had a previous book. As I read the story, and bits and pieces of backstory were given, I assumed this was a series and I was excited to go check out the previous novellas. But I see this is listed as a standalone, with no series title, so I'm a bit confused. Where did all this backstory happen? Why were the characters just plopped in there? It was written in a way that the reader should know who these 'friends' were and be privy to the past. But after looking up the author, I find that this is her debut book.

So if you're reading my review prior to purchase, don't sweat the side characters' stories- you're not missing anything, even if you feel there must be another book somewhere.

Recommended for fans of MM romance, particularly lusty novellas, and for those who are free-time-challenged but still want to carve out a bit of 'me' time and relax.

I really wanted to like this book. Really. The blurb made it seem like it was going to be sort of fun, and I liked the whole dating game idea. I’m sad to say I didn’t get what I wanted. It all felt…wrong…to me. The date was going so well, and when Slade breaks the news to Dekker he wasn’t single anymore, rather than just going their separate ways and maybe deciding to be buddies or something, they went dancing. They are all over each other and even kiss. Even though I knew Slade and Dekker would eventually be together, it felt like Slade was cheating on George (even if he was an asshat). I don’t abide by cheating. No matter who is doing it. It’s wrong, and I lose respect for the cheater…fictional or real life. Also, Dekker spends half the book trying to figure out ways to get Slade into his bed, even though he knows Slade is in a relationship. That struck me as kind of sleazy. I had no connection with either main character because of these situations.

Of course, we know George is really not a changed man and things will end between him and Slade. It was bound to happen. I also expected George to do something irrational because Slade would leave. Well, it was irrational, and it was evil. However, I didn’t expect the fallout that I got. Slade, feeling responsible for what happened (I don’t want to give it away, though), doesn’t go to Dekker when he should have. I was so angry at him for that. It felt selfish to me.

A sweet book to read when you need something lighthearted and escape reality for a while. Sure the book was on the predictable side of things, but come on – there are very few contemporary romances out there with a HEA / HFN that will truly surprise you, and even fewer are short stories. I will say that the author tried and succeeded in not writing the same old story written a thousand times before, with characters actually talking and being honest with each other. What could’ve turned into some major drama with hurt feelings, betrayal and what not was avoided (and for the better I say) and we could all focus on the more important aspects of the book; how would Dekker and Slade get together with a boyfriend in the mix?

I also liked the blind date aspect of the book, it’s something that isn’t (yet) over used. However, I’m not one for insta-love and Dekker’s and Slade’s romance teeters right on the edge of it. But because of the George situation their romance still develops slowly. Well, right up ‘til

The book would’ve benefitted from another editing session, to clean it up a bit better and get rid of some of the inconsistencies and missing information, but all in all it was a good debut book and promises more good books to come from the author.

gave 3.5 stars but rounded up to 4 for the review

This was a sweet quick read for me. I liked the blind date story line since we dont see that done alot. The story moved fast for me too and we dont get to see any real problems from these 2 men. Dekker and Slade are cute together and have great chemistry from the first time they meet. They met and Dekker learns that Slade has a boyfriend but that doesnt deter him from going after Slade. Loved to see how torn Slade was between his boyfriend that already cheated on him once and Dekker who looks like the perfect boyfriend. Dekker was alittle corny for me but it worked for this story. I also enjoyed when we get both POV's. All in all a good read and would definitely read more from this author. Received an arc from publisher for review. Reviewed by Jodi for Alpha Book Club.

Blind Date appears to be Kay Doherty's first published book, and it shows promise. The premise is cute- - Slade and Decker meet on a charity blind date and it's love at first sight, but there's an obstacle in the form of Slade's ex-boyfriend.

My problem with this book is that there weren't enough bonding moments between the MCs -- I felt like there should have been a growing connection between the two of them, and instead it felt arrested. The drama got a little stale as a result. I also felt like Decker went from modest to uber-confident with no warning.

I see that this book's the first in a series, and I will definitely look for the next one despite this unevenwarning. For example,I would be interested in reading more about the other blind date mentioned in this book.

My friend Barb gave me the heads up about this book.
I love this book. It was a little instalove but it was fantastic.
Dekker is persuaded to take part in a modelling show and also a dating show for charity. There he picks Slade and the following weekend the 2 go on a blind date. The two get on well , however as the night progresses Slade lets it drop that he has a boyfriend.
Yes, there is some angst but all together it is a feel good book which I loved.
Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this read. There was a few twists that I did not see coming. But it just made the read that much more interesting. This is definitely a series I will be following after reading this book. I was caught up and captivated by a this read. I had my reservations about one part of this book but once I realized what the author was going for and how it all played out, I was ok with it.

Dekker is lonely. It seems that all his friends are finding the person that makes him happy but Dekker has not found his happily ever after just yet. When his best friend and former boyfriend Alek convinced him to be a part of a charity blind date, Dekker was not really excited about it. Dekker does not like that much attention and was extremely nervous about doing the blind date but as it turns out there was one man that caught his attention by his voice. This turns out to be a man named Slade. Though Dekker cannot wait to finally meet the man and see if his voice matches his looks, Dekker is still nervous.

Slade knows that taking his ex boyfriend George back after excepting the blind date was a mistake, there is little he can do about it. Slade may not be available but he is excited about this blind date. The difference between Slade and Dekker is, Slade knows what Dekker looks like. From the way Dekker answers the questions that Slade asked, Slade knows that he is attracted to Dekker.

After their date there is no question on whether they are compatible. They definitely are but Slade is not available. So Dekker decides to at least be Slade’s friend. Is that even possible though with the attraction that these two men feel for each other?

This was a great read and I see now that it is a part of a series. So I will definitely be checking out the rest of the books in this series. This is definitely a book worth reading.

I'm finding it difficult to write a review for this. I really enjoyed the storyline and thought the MC's were very likable characters. The story starts out with Dekker being begged to do a charity auction event for a friend and then a blind date after. He finally gives in and is surprised that he, in fact, wants to get to know of the the contestants, Slade, better.

During the date, Slade mentions George, his boyfriend. Dekker is about to call an end to the night, but Slade persuades him to stay. This is the undercurrent of the story that really bothered me. They had a connection that was obvious to both parties, yet Slade goes home to his boyfriend.

Over the next few months, they see each other in what is camouflaged as business, but seems more like emotional cheating to me. When Slade then accuses Dekker of seeing someone else, tempers flare and Dekker says he's not a cheater. I'm not sure about the validity of this argument seeing that Dekker is determined to break up Slade and George and has no problem telling everyone his plans.

I think writing around a theme of cheating can be tricky, but in the end I really did like the overall story that was told. There was a lot going on with the characters and there was a lot of emotion. I wish there was more leading up to their relationship because it seemed fast to me, but there was also a lot of drama which tends to create deeper emotions. Again, I had a hard time rating this one, but if you are okay with some cheating, I'd recommend the read. There was definitely good writing and funny moments and a great ending.

I think my favorite part was the fun t-shirts!

A sweet, but sexy hot, story.

I enjoyed reading Blind Date by Kay Doherty very much. The story grabbed me right from the beginning and held my attention to the extent that I hated putting it down when real life came knocking.

The dating game sequence took me way back to when I watched the TV show by the same name when I was in my teens. I liked how both men were honorable and weren't willing to do anything that would cause Slade to cheat on his formerly ex-boyfriend who he was giving another chance.

Dekker and Slade are so hot together; their chemistry oozed off of the pages while I was reading the book. There were several tense moments towards the end which caused me to figuratively bite my nails.

My only real complaint about the story was the way that Slade reacted to Dekker's situation (sorry but I have to be vague to avoid spoilers). Earlier in the story he seemed to be a stronger person and I thought his behavior was a bit out of character for how he was presented in the rest of the book. In spite of that fairly minor issue I loved the story and was very happy for how the author ended the book with a great epilogue.

A review copy of this book was provided to me via IndiGo Marketing & Design but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

This was a very sweet story. I loved the opening scene at the charity fashion show, the characters are introduced and you get to know them right away. They play 'The Dating Game' (just like that old game show I used to watch when I was home sick from school). Such a great way to start off the story.

Dekker is adorable, he sees all his friends hooked up and just wants to have a relationship of his own. The minute he hears Slade's voice he knows that's his dream man and he is going to do anything to get him.

The characters are very well developed and the pacing flows nicely. The book is full of interesting details and descriptions. My fist time reading this author and I will definitely look for their work again.

I received a copy of Blind Date by Kay Doherty via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review. I thought the premise of Blind Date was cute, but the book was more fun than I anticipated. Part of this was due to the main characters having interesting jobs; Dekker owns an adult store and Slade owns a gallery/wine bar. I enjoyed the few discussions of art. Then Slade and Dekker go on interesting dates and eat at different restaurants. While the reader never learns what motivates the troublesome ex, he provides the drama in the story. The friends of the main characters round out the cast and generate a large measure of said fun. Too bad the author did not leave someone unpaired off, as a follow-up story would have been worth a read.

So this is the first book that I’ve read by this author, an I really want more!! The story was awesome. The characters I just couldn’t get enough of. I didn’t want the book to end.

Dekker is a little shy. His friend Alek ask him to be in a dating game for charity. I mean Dekker is hot or so everyone tells him. What could go wrong?

Slade is a stand in for his sick friend. It’s for charity so he can’t pass it up. Who knew that a dating game would put his dream guy up for him to collect.

Slade and Dekker are amazing for each other but there are some complications. Slade’s ex just wont go away. There are a lot of twist and turns for these two to overcome. But nothing will stop love.

This was an interesting read for me. Dekker is a very likable character, but the underlying storyline and what happens between the two MCs left a somewhat bad taste in my mouth. Had Slade not already been in a relationship, everything would have been cool, but the George situation, even though he wasn't the best guy in the world, made it difficult for me to root for the MCs.

I received a copy of this book from the author and voluntarily provided my honest review.

3.5 Stars ~ This little novella was a nice way to spend a couple of my vacation hours. It was like cotton candy, not a lot of nutritional content but fun in the right amounts.

Dekker’s desire for that something more in his life is relatable and sympathetic, though I thought the nearly god-like physical descriptions applied to him were a bit over the top and repetitive. Slade is mostly likeable, though why on God’s green earth he didn’t tell his cheating ex-not-ex that he’d changed his mind about that second chance post-blind date, I could not figure out. I liked these two well enough to care about where the story would lead them, but they were actually overshadowed a bit for me by some of the secondary characters.

The secondary characters had that developed, lived-in feeling that made it seem like they had more story somewhere. I had to double check to make sure I hadn’t accidentally started in the middle of the series, but this is the first book, so I don’t think I missed anything. The twins and their boyfriends, in particular, were problematically intriguing; at times, I was much more interested in them than I was in the main characters. I wanted more of their backstory in the worst way. I’m hopeful that we’ll see more of them as the series progresses, but also kind of disappointed that their coming together stories are chronologically past. Though more than one author has back-tracked to cover backstories, so I’m not in total despair (and if these stories exist somewhere in another series, HOOK ME UP, because I did some research and couldn’t find them).

For me, the characters (main and secondary) are what make the book. I just liked them, faults and all, and likeable characters go a loooong way with me. The plot itself was just okay. The setup was an upgraded version of the whole love-of-my-life-is-dating-someone-else trope, but it was kind of tenuous as far as believability went. Maybe I am just an impatient and unforgiving person, but I could not relate to Slade’s decision to give his ex a half-hearted second chance. Either commit to working it out or cut bait. Sticking to the agreement to give it another go while half in love with someone else just felt dishonest.

The ex is obviously a dick, which would have been fine, but that one last hurdle mentioned in the blurb was WAY extreme. Let’s just say things escalate quickly, and kind of ridiculously. There’s some weak, but patent, foreshadowing, but even that did not prepare me for how far out of whack things went. Even with those hints, the climax just felt a bit unbelievable and out of the blue. I’m not a huge fan of the habit of rendering an ex loathsome to the reader just to make the primary relationship more reasonable. It’s enough for me that Slade wasn’t in love with George. Add in that the guy was already a cheater, and Slade was justified in walking. I was already on board the Dekker/Slade express; there was no need to dropkick me onto the tracks in front of the train.

So pick this one for your end of summer bit of fluff, and spend an hour or two with some fairly likeable guys. The plot? Well, it may work better for you than it did for me.

Four stars!
This was such a sweet story. I really liked Slade and Dekker. They are wonderful guys on their own. But together they are so good. Their journey to get together and be happy took them through some rough times and overcome major obstacles. Watching their relationship build before they even got together was beautiful.
Dekker is a guy I liked more and more each page went by. I like how Dekker was respectful of Slade’s relationship even if he didn’t like or agree with it. He had strong morals and wanted to be sure there were no misunderstandings later. I really enjoyed how Dekker had a strong group of friends and they all leaned on each other when they needed it. They were a fabulous support for Dekker. The way Dekker cares for Slade and treasures him is such a joy to watch.
I really liked Slade. He was regretful with how the blind date winds up because of taking his ex back. But he’s not fickle and given to flights of fancy because something different and exciting comes along. Despite my not liking his relationship with George, I admire how Slade kept his word to give George the chance. He loves with his whole heart and it is so sweet to see him falling for Dekker. I didn’t understand his reaction when Dekker was in the hospital. I got Slade’s guilt but I felt like his reaction was a little opposite to how he acted up to that point. I loved what he plans in the epilogue. It’s so perfect.
I was shocked by George at the end. There’s a key question that doesn’t have a chance of being answered with how things played out. The big fat “Why?” is left unanswered. There are some theories thrown around but we the reader don’t learn the answer and the characters won’t learn either. It was an interesting way to wrap up his story and I found it interesting. But I’m left wondering.
I truly enjoyed the other characters in the story. I would love to see how Rex, Logan, Josh and Justin got together. I kind of want a story on these for and the couples individually. They each have a fascinating dynamic. I want to know if Alek has a happy ending too or if he’s still looking. I felt for Rowan a little bit and want him to find someone that will treat him right.
The ending was so completely adorable. I liked the plan Slade has and how he gets all of his and Dekker’s friends to help. It’s the perfect ending. It may be too sappy or sweet for some readers. But it’s totally perfect for my taste.

Dekker is convinced/forced to participate in a modeling and dating show fundraiser by his good friend. Slade only participated in the dating show because his roommate was ill and unable to be a participant. Dekker is immediately interested in the mysterious man with the sexy voice during the game and chooses him for an upcoming blind date. A week later when the blind date happens, Slade is no longer single and has given his cheating boyfriend another chance. Dekker is disappointed because he's never felt this way about someone before and after having a great first date, promises to make Slade his.

I have to say this story took me by surprise. At first it was a little difficult to get into it, because there are just so many characters. I actually stopped reading to go see if there were other books before this one that told the supporting characters' story, but this is the debut novella by Kay Doherty! And though this is a novella, it totally did not feel or read like one. It's definitely a full story!

Dekker, I loved his character. He was so shy and nervous about the modeling and dating show which was completely out of his comfort zone. He's quirky, fun and has a great sense of humor. He also has a great support network of friends and they are a big part of this story. Slade spends a lot of the book struggling with what he wants to do with what he has.

This book engaged my emotions from laughter to sadness. I'm not a fan of cheating and previous reviews will show this, but I didn't feel like this was the case in this book. It felt like two men who felt a connection, but didn't want a relationship to start out that way. I definitely recommend this book to everyone and hope to see upcoming books about Alek, Rowan and Phil! And I thought the epilogue was perfect!

The only items that caused me to not give this five stars were:

All the characters at the beginning that make you feel like you're dropping into the middle of the series (but on the positive side, that's how well the supporting characters are written!!).

And I felt like the events with the ex-boyfriend were really over the top and like there needed to be some explanation why something that major event happened. Especially after Rowan showed up in the picture. What was the reason all of that happened, why those extremes, why not just walk away again?

Rating: 4 solid stars!

Dekkar is roped into a charity auction/blind date fundraiser to help a friend and ends up choosing Slade as his date. Turns out Slade got back together with his cheating ex and Dekkar decides that not only is Slade worth waiting for, but that he is worth fighting for.

The rating that I gave Blind Date was for the overall reading experience and not so much a reflection of the plot or writing. Grammatically the book made sense and flowed nicely and the plot idea was what had me excited to read it in the first place. The concept of a gay male charity auction held promise and the added twist of Slade having a boyfriend already gave it a little more dimension, but I didn’t think that Doherty was able to pull it off.

I would say that this would be the perfect story to read for a lazy afternoon, where you want something light and cheesy to read. Everything was super predictable and easy; there was zero tension to the plot so it gave a relaxed reading experience, which is sometimes a good thing. This is the type of book that would be great to wind down with after reading something really intense or if you are in a reading slump. It’s cute and short enough to get you right back into reading even if the actual story isn’t as intricate.

What I disliked the most, that really made this two stars instead of 3, was the insta-love, not just between Slade and Dekkar, but between every gay male friend that he has.

Also, as I was writing this I realized that I didn’t appreciate the way that Dekkar pursued Slade.

In an effort to help out his friend, Dekker is cajoled into participating a bachelor auction to raise money for a charity. It is through this auction that Dekker meets Slade. Immediately after hearing Slade’s voice Dekker is instantly smitten and becomes even more attracted to Slade during their blind date. Both men hit it off instantly. Despite the prerequisite that both men be single in order to participate in the auction, Slade, unfortunately is not. Slade made the unwise decision of getting back together with his ex prior to the auction. He didn’t anticipate liking Dekker as much as he did but he won’t leave his no good cheating ex without giving them a second chance.

I absolutely HATED that particular plot twist. I personally think its always best to end a relationship no matter the circumstances before entertaining a new one. I did hold that against Slade and I struggled to like him as a character. HUGE turn off for me.

Dekker on the other hand is lovable. He morphed from this shy cutie into this sexy guy unaware of his charms but hell bent and determined to pursue Slade especially after noticing how possessive Slade’s ex is and knowing the fact that he cheated on Slade. He felt that Slade deserved better and decides to rescue him.

I like Dekker. I like how laid back and charming his character is. I also like his group of friends. He’s surrounded by people that obviously value friendship, live to laugh and go to bat for each other. Kay Doherty has assembled written an interesting group of friends that I wish to know more about. I may not have cared much for Slade and Dekker’s rocky start but I am definitely interested in reading book two of this series.
