The secret, heart-stopping origin of the half-woman, half-spider Emma is revealed at last! Collected for the first time in one volume, Widow: The Origin details the mad experimentation of Professor Harrow, which resulted in the creation of not only the gorgeous Emma, but a hideously deformed beast of blood that calls himself her brother. But while under the hypnotic spell of Harrow and powerless to control her terrifying cravings, Emma will teach us the true meaning of the word 'monster!' This volume also includes the 40-page tale from Widow #0, featuring the debut of the seductive demoness, Rissk!
Fascinating story told through Drew Triggert's reading Dr. Harrow's written record of his experimentation 0n Emma's mother, resulting in Widow (spider Emma). I totally enjoyed the "storyboard" method Mike used to illustrate this book. I'll definitely be watching for more Widow. Very highly recommended.
So the final volume in this Archives series both wrapped up the previous storylines, and also provided an origin story.
I was glad to see the other stories finally wrapped up, even if the ending did seem a little too neat. Still, it was nice to see a comic actually conclude the stories rather than leave them dangling. And it was a pretty good conclusion considering how many loose ends they had to tie up all at once.
The origin story was interesting as well. A new "storyline" storytelling method was used, which I did enjoy but it's not something I'd want to see all the time.
The art from the first volume to this did show improvement, and Widow just cannot keep her clothes on, which isn't so much a bad thing. The sex and violence were there throughout the series, but really stayed more at the R-rated level and never crossed over into "porno comics" territory, even though it was somehwat graphic at times.
Overall this series was an underrated part of the "Bad Girl" craze, and probably deserved at least a little more recognition than it received. If you are a "Bad Girl" fan and haven't tried this one, you probably should.
