Welcome to a brand-new way of thinking about branding. The Physics of Brand is an exploration of how brands evolve in time and space. Drawing on experience working with companies such as Patagonia, General Mills, Target, and more, this book provides an exciting new systems approach to branding. By focusing on how brands and people actually interrelate, you'll gain a new perspective on brand growth and interaction. Complete with case studies to illustrate these concepts and Thought Experiments to get you thinking conceptually, The Physics of Brand is your new textbook on brand theory.
Not many business books are fun and engaging to read. In fact, after a long time, I read a business book that had a ton of diagrams and cartoons that made the book enjoyable to read. The Physics of Brand is one such gem!
✅ What this book is about: This book breaks the question of "How branding works" into several parts and goes deep (very) in each part. You can find yourself with a completely new perspective on branding and how your own actions + actions of various "brands", get closely intertwined in the formation of a "brand" in the first place.
💡 The thing is many of us have a broad view of how branding works but it is easy to overlook some of the very key aspects of branding. For example, as a child, you might have interacted with a brand when that brand sponsored a drawing competition. But you started using that brand's product now after several years. The firm laid the seed of branding several years back and gets to see the fruits now.
⛔️ What this book is NOT about: This is not a "How to brand" book. So, if you expect the book to teach you how to take your newly born brand into a household name, you will be disappointed.
📚 What makes the book special? 📚 Goes deep into each sub-topics 📚 Lots of examples and case studies 📚 Each chapter ends with a beautifully written summary 📚 Great usage of cartoons and diagrams
⚠️Caution: Although the book is colorful and beautifully illustrated, you will need the patience to read and understand and connect all parts together. At moments, the chapters can appear dry and a temptation to drop out in between does comes. Just try to resist that and you will be thankful for not quitting in between.
What's your favorite brand? When was your first encounter with that brand?
The Physics of Brand is a great coffee table book with beautiful illustrations and color. The use of images and small snippets of information makes for fact fodder that is fun to have in the back of your head while walking into a meeting. There are some great perspectives of Knowledge Management and some thoughtful applicable case studies that tie well to the point that Aaron and team seek to have us understand. I enjoyed the scientific references to memory and pattern recognition. Definitely worth a read if you like the work of David Eagleman (some of that flavor as well).
This book was a great read, love getting a bit meta with creative thinking! Helpful diagrams that I’m sure I will return to, and short summary’s at the end of each chapter will this easier to share with my team.
