1.) Flying Witch Vol. 1 ★★★★★
2.) Flying Witch Vol. 2 ★★★★
3.) Flying Witch Vol. 3 ★★★★
4.) Flying Witch Vol. 4 ★★★★

---------------------------

Not as good as volume 1, and this one also has gender stereotyping and negativity around gaining weight, but the story itself is so cute!

Thanks so much to Amanda for sending this to me!

I really enjoy this one. It's still has that cozy feeling. More witchy stuff that I really wanted in the first volume. Lots of fun and funny moments. I really enjoyed it, perfect to read between heavy books or mangas.

Makoto the witch’s time with her relatives includes a surprise visit from her big sister Akane who both try to help a friend of hers who has turned into a anthro dog. She gets a bigger surprise when her distant younger cousin Chinatsu wants to learn to be a witch like her. Makoto and her inner circle practice witch spells, watch a movie and go on a nature walk. A- (91%/Excellent)

Flying Witch is a quiet/slice of life urban fantasy manga series that follows Makoto who moves to Aomori to live with her cousins, as she continues her training to become a witch!

Its been 2 years since I read volume 1 and I missed this world so much! Its a really sweet, quiet and engaging series that's just a lot of fun!

The series follows Makoto as she hangs out with her cousins Kei & Chinatsu, and new friend Nao as all while the mundane and magical happen in their daily lives!

In this volume its a lot more episodic compared to volume 1 where we learn more about the magic system and little moments of being a witch through Makoto's eyes.

There's little details in the dialogue that help build on the unique witchy/magical world that comes to life in this rural part of Aomori such as what it takes to fly, witches dreams, and unique spells!

Makoto cooks with her cousin Kei, we learn about a friend of Akane's (Makoto's sister) who has a problem that needs solving, walks in the forest, and Akane helps her sister & cousin Chinatsu learn more about spells, tricks, & witchcraft!

There's a nice focus on the bond between the characters and details about the city that make it a unique/quiet place to live!

Now onto why I dropped my rating to a 4:

I was expecting the plot to be more connected to an overarching conflict, but it very much sticks to the slice of life atmosphere, which includes the backdrop of an upcoming festival!
What I appreciated about volume 1 though, was that although it had the slice of life atmosphere, we still learned a lot about the world and characters interwoven with unique plot points, however Vol. 2 definitely feels slower and less focused on a direct conflict. I personally felt it would have been great to see the series having established a little more concrete plot points to root us into the world before continuing with the everyday/slice of life element.

When it comes to art, its definitely got a unique style, but for me personally the paneling felt a bit rushed!

Overall though, I'm looking forward to seeing whats next in this series!

Flying Witch is a quiet, slice of life story that follows Makoto, a witch in training! The characters and everyday life make this a fun series for anyone to get into and enjoy! This volume definitely builds on quieter character moments that build on the quiet atmosphere of Aomori!

*Additional note: What makes this series nice too, is how easy it is to get immersed in the setting and world again! Its been years since I'd read volume 1, but I appreciated how easy it was for me to connect with the characters and plot!

This is just a really chill novel about a girl practicing her witchy stuff and living in the country. Nothing's really happening. The art is pretty and it's super calming to read, but I don't think I'm really interested enough to continue.

This is such a wholesome and comforting series. A slice of life, day in the life of a witch in training. It's a cute, non-threatening heart-warming manga series which I came across on kindle unlimited.

This is super cute and I really like the art work and characters but idk something is just missing thats not really getting me fully invested, I do want to read more though. I gave it a 3.5 rounded up to 4 cause this volume did make me chuckle a few times. I am hoping it picks up a bit! I understand it's slice of life but idk i want a little more adventure they're WITCHES!

Not as "cozy" as the first volume but this is honestly one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. It feels in the Rumiko Takahashi tradition of humor, really unexpected and made me laugh out loud!

The Flying Witch series are very cute slice of life stories. About a witch in training along with her little cousin. The predicament they get into are cute and the magic system appears to be really light but cute.

I needed a break from some of the heavier parts of the world and cozy manga like Flying Witch always does the trick. Plus, it was a perfect read for Halloween!

I love this series...it is so cute and silly and fun. Also I dont know why the English edition isn't popping up but the series is printed in English by vertical comics.

Okay, so this second volume was MUCH better than the first, but I’m still just giving it 3 stars because I feel like there is still a lot that could’ve made it more interesting and exciting. But overall, it was an adorable manga, it’ll make its reader smile for sure! There was definitely a lot more humorous moments that I appreciated, and a more developed plot.
However, at the beginning Nao said she was going to do lots of things that day because she believed she would have good luck in all of it, and we never found out what happened because we had to instead watch the cousins eating fried vegetables. Also WHO is Jackie?? Is that going to be addressed in future mangas? Also I hope Isukai comes back, her character never got a concluded arc.
So I do very much feel like I can continue with this series after reading the second one. I was interested enough to want to find out more. So I’ll see about picking up volume 3!

I read this one years ago, too. This time we have a few more quiet adventures with the trainee witch, her wilder sister, and the cute family that more or less takes them in. This time we meet a girl who is turned into a half-dog creature, and a young girl wants to be trained to become a witch, and we have some funny things about flying using brooms and simple spells.

The background art is beautiful and detailed. The character interactions are sweet and innocent. A very homey and comfy book.

This is a rather bland slice of life manga about a girl who is training to be a witch. It is moving too slowly for my current state of mind. Will pick it up when I'm more in the mood for something more laid back and quiet.

There's not a lot of high action in this story, but it's super cute. Makoto's witch education is going very slowly, but she's learning a lot about herself in the process. The younger cousin Chinatsu, the sister Akane, and the grumpy elderly cat Chito are highlights of this volume.
