John "Bull" Bramlett was a hard-drinking brawler known in the NFL as a top-rated linebacker. He tried the limits of many people who knew him in his early years.
It wasn't until his wife, Nancy's conversion and a career-ending injury on the field that he found reason to pause and consider his life. At his wife's urging, he began to attend church and bible meetings. Nancy started leaving little notes where she knew "Bull" would find them. One afternoon, two men came to the door of his home.
This is the story of "Bull" Bramlett's out-of-control earlier years and his complete turnaround. It's the story of new hope for a family that seemed destined for destruction and of Bramlett's determined
crusade to 'build up' after decades of 'breaking down'. Moving, miraculous, powerful and personal, this is a five-star autobiography.

I read /Taming the Bull: The John "Bull" Bramlett Story/, by John "Bull" Bramlett, which also led to the film, Taming the Bull:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3194696/...

The story is Bull's story of growing up playing football and baseball, being too small to play football, getting drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, not making it in baseball, gaining weight to play middle linebacker in the NFL, and having a football career while still drinking and carousing.

(Later in the book and in life, he becomes a pastor)

The first 150 pages of this book will lead you to believe that John Bramlett was one of the meanest men who ever lived. God turned a life of violence and substance abuse into a ministry that has touched millions of lives around the world. We may not all have the backstory of Bull, but his testimony is a warm reminder that no man is too far gone to receive grace.

The first 2/3 to 3/4 of the book are pretty rough. The author gives a raw picture of his life without Christ, & I almost wanted to put the book down--he was a terrible person. But you have to read that part, to fully appreciate the incredible work God did in his life.

I had the opportunity to meet John the "Bull" Bramlett a few years ago. The man he is today is not at all the man he talks about in this book. He is brutally honest about the terrible, thoughtless things he did earlier in his and Nancy's marriage. His story is one of hope and inspiration that anyone has the ability to change, but they have to want it and seek it.
