This is a review for volume 1 only.

At the beginning, we can notice easily the mandatory from-nobody-into-somebody plot of this sport manga.

This manga has a relatively fast paced plots despite the coming-of-age and inner struggles themes.

The main protagonist began as a nobody in soccer, a total noob, with great fighting spirit. That's common enough in sport manga. But the rare thing is at chapter 5, the author explicitly promise to readers the main character will become the future team captain, despite the team has many other good players. It is an innovative way to give impression that the main protagonist has abundant potentials to grow as a soccer player. It also served as a strong ending for volume 1.

Oh, wow. The ship is strong with this one.

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, “ship” is short for “relationship,” with it often heavily implied to be romantic. The ship can be canon, like Romeo and Juliet, or fanmade, like Rosaline and Mercutio. In most fanworks, ships are LGBTQA—people will pair Romeo and Mercutio or Juliet and Rosaline. Any of these are perfectly acceptable ships.

And in Days, it feels like the author himself ships Tsukuchi and Jin hardcore. There were dozens of times in the first two chapters where the romantic tension was so strong that I expected a character to just break out of the woodwork and shout at them to just kiss already, geez.

Not that I particularly approve of this pairing, mind you. Tsukuchi is kind of ridiculous in this volume, crying at the drop of a hat like he did. On the other hand, he’s a good example of showing how men can be emotionally vulnerable but still strong.

Why did you read this book?
It was on sale a while ago, and I picked it up. I just got around to reading it.

What format did you read this book in?
Read it as an eBook on Kindle.

Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment?
I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.

What genres do you think this book belongs to?
Comics, Contemporary, Fiction, Graphic Novels, Humor and Comedy, Romance, Sports, Young Adult

What was your favorite part of the book?
I think my favorite moment in the book is the conversation the main character had with his mother about him joining the football club and how much it would cost. Overall, it was a really sweet moment.

Who would you suggest this book to?
I would only suggest this manga to anyone who likes Shoney's and sports stories— specifically soccer.

What style of graphic novel is this?
It’s in the Japanese manga style (you need to read the book from right to left).

Is the comic colored, or is it in black and white?
This comic is in a B&W tone.

What is your opinion on the artwork?
I thought the artwork was all right. It wasn't bad per se, but I would have liked a bit more detail in the characters hair and facial designs. The action scenes while they were out on the playing field were very well done.

How is the typesetting? Is the comic easy to read?
The fonts were great, and it was easy to read.

Is this comic a part of a series?
Yes, this comic is part of a series, and I won't be following it.

What is your general opinion/ rating of this book?
I am not really the demographic for this book. It was definitely oriented toward young men or teen boys who like soccer. The humor and drama were a bit juvenile for my tastes, although I did find the main character to be earnest and likable. The art style was all right. Just take my review with a grain of salt because I don't like sports anime or manga to begin with. Overall, if you like soccer with some light high school drama, then you may like this book.

Any trigger warnings?
Mental Health: Romanticized Mental Illness, Panic Attacks
Disabilities: Lifechanging injury
Violence and Death: Death, Death of a Loved One, Escalating Violence, Blood, Graphic Violence
Other: Bullying

Futsul and friends make the world fun

Poor Tsukushi Tsukamoto is a nice guy to a fault. When it comes to his own desires he will almost always choose whatever is best for others before considering his own needs even at the point of physically sacrificing himself. With a heart as big as a stadium his life began to change slowly as the normally not athletic youth meets the enigmatic Jin Kazama who saves him from some bullies and asks if he is interested in a game similar to soccer but played with fewer people called Futsul. While I believe the majority of the story is primarily about how Tsukushi becomes a less meek person I think the unique characters that support and even those that antagonize him really bring the story to life since in the beginning he is very passive to start with.

Through hardships and sacrifice Tsukushi's determination may not make him the best ball player but he is sure to inspire others as he discovers his love of soccer thanks to his new friend Jin and joins the school soccer club even though he has no talent for the game yet. However before he can join the team he has to discuss the matter with his mother who although in a wheelchair is always being supportive to her son even though he lost his father (possibly to whatever crippled her) who is obviously a huge influence in the development of her boys selfless personality. The chat between the two of them was super touching as Tsukushi feeling guilty about wanting to join something that would not only take time away from being there to help her but also cost money as well. Her boisterous response was perfectly inspiring as a coworker looked on in the background. I have high hopes for Tsukushi if he continues to balance his own desires with his inspirational kindness. :)

Can you believe it? I'm having tears in my eyes even for the 1st volume... I'm totally looking forward to see how's everything gonna unfold. This manga falls into all of sports manga troupe that I myself can foresee but the chemistry between the characters are unique! Even though the main guy is quite pathetic at times, however I am definitely anticipating the character growth of him. I was a bit confused about its genre because it was listed under shojo manga, now I understand, it was a love story between the main guy, Tsukushima, football and his comrades. 3.5 stars!

A charming manga book about a miserable schoolboy whose life changes when he is taken under the wing of a beautiful long-haired popular boy. Encouraged to try playing five-a-side football, his determination and willingness to run his feet off earns him the respect of the other players. It was very sweet.

Overly dramatized and very contrived, but it’s a nice enough story if one’s disbelief is suspended. I bought this to read on the subway and it served its purpose. I’ll probably read more of this series.

I think I watched some of the anime to this years ago, but couldn't remember anything about it. Some of it is coming back now, and the manga is an enjoyable read.

I first watched the anime and decided to read the manga. Oh boy, there are scenes in volume 1 which are not in anime.

Plus Tsukushi Tsukamoto

Now an anime. Days has the best parts you could find in a sports manga. There's the Seirin Fight! warrior spirit that is pervalent in Kuroko no Basket. The weak but strong player similar to the lead in Area no Kishi and KnB. Also typical character types found in most soccer mangas.

The story is not original but that doesn't mean its lacking. On the contray, following a typical format allows the characters to develop well and become outstanding.

What I like about the lead character is his inner strength. On the surface he appears weak and apologetic. That's become he's always thinking and reacting in a way that wouldn't stir trouble for others. When you strip back that layer of social politeness, he is fierce.

His determination to "work hard" and not let the team down, starts to win the team over. At least his own peers. He still has to convince a few of his skilled seniors of his "fit" for the team and spot.

As Tsukushi consistently stays determine to prove his worth, his actions begins to change the selfish attitudes of his team.

I really like this story so far. I hope it doesn't go down the weird path that Area no Kishi did, and stays consistent toward character progression and aiming of goals.

Tsukushi is definitely far too cute for his own good. Like a tiny little pathetic animal, you know? He is so desperately grateful to have someone who actively wants to be around him that he likens it to a (stereotypically feminine) romantic fantasy.

Ah, sportsball manga. The line between it and BL is very fine indeed.

::333 really super cute!!! it definitely follows the stereotypical sports manga of plot of being beat and coming back stronger, but the characters are really unique in both their personalities and their relationships with each other! i 100% recommend
