This was a very fun and light series to read over Christmas break, ah middle grade adventure thrillers. A fun fact about Gordon Korman is that he's only 61 years old which seems strange considering he was already crazy prolific when I was a kid and reading his books BUT he started writing his Macdonald Hall series when he was a teenager! (His first book was actually a grade 7 English assignment or something.) So when I was 10 he was only 31 which now seems like a totally crazy age to have published a ton of well-loved and established kids novels. Awesome!

Also this series gives me so much insight into Gen Z's childhood technology. For millenials like me I remember childhood without cell phones or internet, and this series was interesting in that cell phones and internet existed and were ubiquitous but people also still used tape recorders and newspapers haha. What a crazy changing world.

i was really heartbroken that aiden and meg ended up in prison, despite their efforts. but i was so glad that Emmanuel Harris saves the day literally. that ending was something. i totally loved this series. there is not a single dull moment in these books. i am so proud of aiden & meg. who were willing to go through any lengths to prove their parents innocence & clear their family name.

How do you capture someone who wants to kill you?
This book is the last book of the On The Run series. Aiden and Meg are fugitives wanted by the FBI, police, basically anyone who wants the reward money, and a bald killer who has been hunting them. They are still on the run searching for the one man who can clear their parents names - Frank Lindenauer. Unfortunately the man they are looking for is also the bald killer, "Hairless Joe" the guy who will stop at nothing to kill them. How can they get their parents names cleared without getting killed first?
Exciting book, and great finish. I like how through the whole series they have been escaping by using ideas from Mac Mulvey (their father's fictional book character) and near the end their father says, "But I make all that up! I never meant for anybody to actually do it!"

I was around 11-12 when I discovered this series and devoured the first two books which I had found in the library. Then after months of fruitless searching, I had to come to the conclusion that the rest had never been translated into my language.

A decade later, in the age of ebooks, and with my since earned English proficiency, I was reminded of these books once more. At first, I was scared I wouldn't like them anymore now that I'm not 12. I shouldn't have been. Yes, they are books for children without doubt. But so enjoyable even for adults. Everything Aiden and Meg went through, the twists and turns, the unbelievable escapes, you couldn't help but root for them, obviously.

If you're ever looking for a quick and fun series to read, something to possibly get you out of a reading funk, give this a chance, I don't think you'll regret it.

Wow! What a great conclusion to this series. But I am getting ahead of myself. According to Goodreads there are 9 editions of this book. And currently all but the eBook are out of print. Originally published in 2006 and the eBook released in 2013. I discovered previously there is a second series with the same characters, the Kidnapped series has another three volumes, so you could see this as the sixth of 9 stories featuring the Falconer's.

A few years ago in the summer of 2022, Korman published his 100th book. Yes you read that correctly, his hundredth book. My introduction to Korman’s works was the 39 Clues back in 2009. Since then I have read 98 of his books. As of the summer of 2025 he has 109 volumes in print, not counting omnibus editions. With each one I read I am entertained and often challenged. My son often reads these books to me or with me. And now my youngest daughter has started reading them. I have been jumping around on different series to finish reading his complete bibliography, because I finished the stand alone books last year. There are so many great reads in the Korman’s collection.

My son and I started reading Gordon Korman books together a few years ago, when he was given one as an end of year gift by his teacher. She gave the whole class the same Scholastic edition and wrote a note to each student in their copy of the book. Prior to that I had a read a few of his contributions to the 39 Clues series and had enjoyed them. My son and I have mostly had been reading his more recent titles, when I decided to try and read and review them all.

Chasing the Falconers
The Fugitive Factor
Now You See Them, Now You Don't
The Stowaway Solution
Public Enemies
Hunting the Hunter

The description of this volume is:

“Aiden and Meg Falconer find and confront the man who could free their parents in this thrilling conclusion to the first ON THE RUN series.

Aiden and Meg Falconer have been all across country, looking for the man who framed their parents and sent them off to life in prison. Now they've found him -- and need to trap him before he gets away again. But it isn't going to be easy. Hairless Joe is a professional killer ... and he's not about to let two kids stand in the way of his freedom. It's the ultimate showdown -- and only one side can win.”

Another is:

“When Aiden and Meg Falconer discover that Hairless Joe, a killer and madman, holds the key to freeing their parents from prison, they decide to try and trap him, despite the dangers.”

Unlike many of Korman’s books the chapters do not have titles, in any of the books in the series. The premise of the series reminds me of Conspiracy 365 January by Gabrielle Lord, also from Scholastic but published 5 years after this series. At the end of the volume is no preview or mention of the Kidnapped series..

The intensity in this series was always cranked up but this one does it in a very different way. The kids are hiding out on a farm near Colorado. They are trying to find a way to trap Frank, and get him to confess to clear their name. They know that the man they knew as Uncle Frank, is also the hairless man who has chassed them all over the country trying to kill them. The FBI has figured out who he is, and is starting to believe the kids about their parents’ innocence. But Aiden and Meg try and corner a murderer on their own. Things go sideways very quickly. To find out how and what happens read this thrilling conclusion to this hexalogy.

This story had the most serious risk in the series, a few close calls, and even setting themselves up as bait. It is another excellent offering in a wonderful series! This story and series is darker than many of Korman’s offerings. The pace is breakneck. The characters are very well written. You will find yourself cheering for Aiden and Meg again and again. And maybe just maybe they can pull it off after all these months, all those miles, and more than a few crimes. It is a story young readers will latch onto and love! It is another masterful story from Korman’s skilful pen! And if you enjoy it be sure to check out the follow up trilogy!

Aiden and Meg finally know who is hunting them, it's the man they were looking for all along. Hairless Joe is actually Hairless Frank Lindenaur...the man the kids need to free their parents. Frank was an ex CIA man who duped their parents into thinking they were working for the government against terrorists but when Frank couldn't be found at trial their parents were deemed guilty as traitors. Since then the family has been split and the kids have been trying to find Frank to prove their parents innocence. Now they know their enemy is close and this feels like their last chance so Aiden is determined to capture Frank putting himself in great danger with no regard to his own life. Meg won't stand for that so she takes matters into her own hands to keep her brother safe but also capture Frank. As things come to a head the action is tense as we follow both kids on their missions. Hopefully this will be the end to them being chased and their parents can be set free.

I'm in possession of this book purely because I did a charity shop crawl with the specific intention of buying books that were less than 200 pages long. I actually got this one out of the adult section even though it's pretty clear from the English cover that it's a YA book.

What I didn't realise when I bought it was that it was the 6th and last book in the series. I quite enjoyed it regardless though. It had many ridiculous elements to the plot that I think I would have totally gone for when I was a young adult myself and as such I found it charming. I'm going to put the other 5 on the TBR list now and will probably end up reading this book again once I've read the first 5 to see how my perception of it changes in context.

Hunting the Hunter was a great book full of adventure. This book is about two kids who are trying to capture this guy that they think has the answers they need to get there parents out of jail. At the same time this guy is trying to kill these to kids so they don’t share the truth with everyone. This is a book that I would recommend if you like short exciting reads. I really like it because I love short reads and that have a lot of detail in them while still being really short. The book keeps the reader engaged with cliff hangers so they make you have to keep reading. 10/10 book, it is a series though so if you wanna start on the first book it is called Chasing the Falconers, by Gordon Korman.

Amazing conclusion to an awesome series. Korman nailed the last book. I really liked how the final showdown with Hairless Joe took place in one location, and the Falconers weren't jumping around the United States, like they have been in the last few books. I really liked Aiden's choice to get free his parents even if it cost him his life. All of the book was relatively realistic, except Holyfield must really want the farm back, and there is no way that the Falconers would just be set free after all that they did and how many laws they broke. Regardless, this series is amazing. As the Mouth of America would tell you, "That's what I say. You got a problem with that?"

I listened to this series as audiobooks during some road trips. The story was interesting and I wanted to see what would happen in the end. I feel the story stretched the limits of belief at times, but it was entertaining. I found the conclusion somewhat predictable. I listened to it with my family (boys ages 17, 14, and 8) and they all enjoyed it.

At last! This “trilogy” is over! Yay!!
This was a very adventurous set of books.
Now I can get back to what I started not too long ago… Dystopian Trilogy Book 2!!!

Note to mom: I dunno. These kids are taking risks that I still haven’t taken. Now I think of it, you’ve taken some of these risks already. Maybe this series wouldn’t be as shocking for you as it was for me!

Last book of the set. It was a good read. I enjoyed all of them. I would recommend this series. I found it content wise to be more for teens or adults even though it is by a kids author.

I have enjoyed reading this series to my sons, and they have loved every minute of it. This final book in the On the Run series was satisfying. I will continue to seek out books by Gordon Korman for my kids. He's the perfect children's author for our family.
