The townsfolk of Black Dog wrapped themselves in that sentiment like a security blanket. Being part of the tight-knit, small town shielded them from the horror that plagued the evening news.
And then something happened. It happened fast.
Two fishermen became ill after a day on Black Dog Lake. The mysterious virus that had an almost supernatural way of evolving began to spread. People got sick. People got violent. And then they died.
But the hunger that ravaged their bodies lived on.
The infected were considered the lucky ones. The cloudy film covering their eyes blinded them from the death of mankind. The survivors witnessed everything—the true value of life and the evil that lurked deep in the human soul. Each day the world darkened.
On the bright side, it would all be over in five days.
[The Last Five Days: The Complete Novel contains Day One: Luther's Diner, Day Two: Evil Urges, Day Three: The Smoker, Day Four: Brothers Fight, and Day Five: Judas Kiss which were originally released in serialized form. The full novel saves you almost a dollar and several extra clicks.]
Paul Seiple is a best-selling author of the Project Specter Mystery Series and the Great Dying Post-Apocalyptic Series. His roots are in the horror and thriller genres. Occasionally, he will take a wrong turn and end up in other genres like science fiction.
Outside of creating dark stories, Paul is influenced by Crystal Pepsi, New Coke, Van Halen III (The Gary Cherone Minute), and Windows Vista. He believes Paul Stanley’s ’78 solo record was the best and misses Saved by the Bell: The College Years tremendously. Paul would like for you to be in his Myspace Top 8, but sadly, he can’t remember his password. But all is not lost.
The Last Five Days written by Paul Seiple is the first in a series about the start of an apocalypse that started in a small town. The town was plague by two twin brothers that were sent fishing on Black Dog Lake. The brothers were given a virus that they didn’t know about and that was how it all started. The survivors are trapped in the town trying to figure out what this sickness is and how to survive until a cure is found. Winston Fleming starts the story off by having to shoot his neighbor in the head.
The pros of this book would include Winston Fleming, I didn’t know if I liked him as a character when the book started and as the story progressed, he quickly became my favorite. I think it was clever how the author came about the zombies being created, it makes the story believable. I also liked how some of the characters started to develop but I wished they were developed a little more even if it extended that book another hour. The book contains a fair amount of action which keeps you interested.
Cons would be the length of the book; I do understand it’s titled the last five days and it had five chapters each telling the story about each day. I still think the author should have made the book a little bit longer. I grew a liking to a few characters, but I wish they were developed a little more. The story is fast paced but when it comes to books about the apocalypse, I think they should focus more on character development because we’re trying to relate with the people trying to survive opposed to the zombies or what ever is trying to end the world.
I received this book via Promo and I really enjoyed it, I will be starting the next book shortly. I didn’t take a liking to the Narrator, he voiced all of the characters by trying to create a different voice for each, I personally think that was too much for him to try and pull off, but he didn’t make me not want to listen to the book. The book ended with a twist and I’m looking forward to listening to the next. The epilogue seemed to have jumped a few years into the future and that makes me feel as thought the next book will rush the development of the newer characters, but I’m still interested in reading it.
What would happen if our government used American Citizens to test a virus and wipe out the population of a small town to test it! In this story that is what happen in Black Dog a small community of easy going fisherman and local folks. And everything goes wrong and it spreads world wide. The virus was created to test a new micro weapon that could be programed to seak certain items out in the book red heads are mentioned if the weapon was programed to wipe red headed person it would just kill them. As usual greed and power comes in people start seeing money and a way to make more no matter what it cost. The virus that was created was to be only person to person but instead they created a thinking virus a virus that would protect itself to live and it went air born and infected everyone. The new weapon worked and started killing everyone who had the virus both in the town and the Generals, doctors and the soldiers. The book is very well written and the narrator brings ever character alive to the point you can feel the pain of dieing loves ones , friends and neighbors. And the story ends with the only surviver a woman sending out a message of hope to be one day able to walk the earth as a human nit a food source.
Greed is a terrible thing and it's worse when the person having it is a position of Great Responsibility. Government heads have found someone who has discovered the ultimate weapon of war , and is willing to sell to highest bidder . Is THE END OF MANKIND IN SITE ?? READ THIS HORROR THRILLER AND PRAY IT IS FANTASY...I RECOMMEND.
I first read this in the serialized form and enjoyed it immensely. Having found the sequel, I downloaded this for free & had a quick re-read. Still very good, though a few more typos than I remember from the 5-part series. If you love zombies-with-a-difference, give this a shot. You won't be disappointed! Now on to "Am I Dead?"
Yet another zombie apocalypse story. At least this was quite well-paced with a fairly believable explanation of how the zombies came to be zombies. Oftentimes, the latter part is left up to the reader to imagine. Ultimately though, because I'm probably suffering from zombie-fatigue, it was just an OK read.
This apocalyptic nightmare is a great story which I enjoyed very much. It's unique sci-fi take on how the terror begins grabbed my attention and held it to the very end. I went straight to Kindle Unlimited to get the next book in the series and plan to read it this week. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Short but enjoyable read... I love a good zombie novel and this had lots of zombie action! I cant help but compare it to real life viruses that have caused problems , are they real or man made? Conspiracy theory alert 🚨! I liked the name of the main character a nod to a certain Orwellian character I think!
This was a great start to a new series.A new virus is decimating the population of Black Dog.When the CDC shows up with a doctor, they think help has arrived, until they lock her in with them.A new type of Zombie arrives. Alex Black was a fine narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
This found a way to make zombies interesting, the way they interact seem normal and then all of a sudden lunge and try to eat you! But isn't that like all zombies, all they want to do is eat you! I enjoyed this book and hope that you do too
Don't quite know how to describe this book. Just not enough development for a good flow. The twists were dumb surprises, again not enough development. I had hard time reading the book.
I did read the entire book, probably because it was short. The author has skills but I've seen too many zombie-tyoe shows/movies/books for this to be a must recommend. Good if you're new to the genre.
I don't normally read about zombies but this had a twist to it. Are these people really zombies, are they actually dead or something more, something new? I guess you have to read it to see.
This book ended differently than I anticipated. I would tell any one who has liked post-apocalyptic books in the past should enjoy this book, even though it is quite different than most. I rated this a 4 only because this isn't normally my genre.
This was different than other zombie stories. There was more than one 'story' going on at the same time. I read it in one day, had to see how it ended!
This is an extremely disturbing book. It tells the story of people, who wanting power and thinking they can control the uncontrollable, unleash a virus on a small town. This may at first appear to be a zombie book, but it isn't. The virus is only a means to an end, but it doesn't turn out to do what the scientists who developed it expect it to do. The author came up with an ingenious way to talk about evolution and survival of the fittest--at least I thought so.
There is the usual cast of characters--the evil government, the scientists (both good and bad), and the victims and survivors of the virus. The most poignant story is that of two people trying to survive and having to do things they never thought they would. The victims are people to be pitied because they don't know what is happening to them. It's a lose-lose proposition.
This book is exciting, innovative, suspenseful, and emotional. It is usually difficult for authors to combine all those elements successfully, but it is done in this book. You will care about the people and marvel at the science, and, as in most apocalyptic books, find that humans are their worst enemy. The saying: "Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely", is proven, once again, in this book.
( Format : Audiobook ) "I am the dawning of a new generation." Having read book three of the Great Dying trilogy (yes, I know, but I'd liked the title!), I was so impressed I really wanted to know what had gone before. So, another free download from the Free Audio Book Codes website - my deep thanks to the rights holder who made it available to anyone who wanted it - to find out, hopefully, how it had all started and why?
This is an apocalyptic zombie novel set in the small town of Black Dog, which becomes the focus for an experiment which, possibly, goes wrong and focuses, mainly, on two of the inhabitants. Tightly written, although there are occasional unnecessary repeats, this audio book is also well narrated by soothing voiced Alex Black, with a commendable level of emotion, clarity and individual character voicing. He brings the mental pictures to life. Some gore, some action and also the answer to some of the questions I brought from my reading of book three. But I guess that I will now need to move on to book two to fill the gap. Recommended to anyone who enjoys zombie stories.
This book was recommended by another author, so right away, you figure it has to be pretty good right? Well they were right, and I loved it. The plot moves along fast and keeps you turning pages, the characters are well-developed, with the likeable ones extremely likeable and the evil ones extremely loathsome. The author has a good imagination and manages to add some new details to the "zombie apocalypse" story that has been done 1000x times. He still manages to keep the genre fresh and interesting. Will definitely look for more from this author.
Take scientific brilliance, mix it with greed, ego, thirst for power and evil, you get this man made disaster that just keeps going and going. What is horrifying is that I can see this as a feasible event that could happen. Biological weapons exist and are used! How far are we going to let things go before we as humanity say enough!
