This was book 5 in "The Remus Brothers" series. When the Remus brothers go to rescue Jake who is one of Hound's mate's he had know idea that he would be meeting his mate. Brandon Austin has been held for two weeks by a crazy hyena shifter who tired to kill his family to get there money he has been drugged daily with some kind of drug like heroin called paradise and is hooked. Brandon doesn't know what to think he is scared and alone and he is sick without the drug. Brandon and Jake don't get along his father pitted the brothers against each other there while lives. Cross doesn't know how to help his mate when Brandon calls his dealer and gets the drug he overdose and is taken to a doctor where he told about a therapist Drew but he doesn't want help. The hyena is not giving up he wants him back including going through the brothers. The family steps up to help not only there brother but his mate. Brandon has never had anyone to help him or care about him he has been selfish and self-centered all his life. When Brandon does finally talk to Drew he reveals that he has also ways used drugs off and on throughout his life because he never felt good enough for his family. When the brothers go to take down the hyena they find themselves in a trap and they also get a surprise the hyena Bowman is kidnapping humans and selling them into them as sex slaves. They also find out that he kidnapped their friend blow and he is killed while trying to help the other guys get out among them is Houston's mate Devin. This was a really good book too me the best in this series. This book was well written like the others in this series. I am looking forward to reading the next and last book in this series.
El libro está bien, sin más. Aunque me gustó mucho Brandon, lo sentí un poco más real. Cross típico personaje macho-pecho-peludo pero bueno y me gustó.
I didn't expect this story line. I was caught completely off guard. That's what I get for not reading a book's synopsis. If you haven't read the other four books in the Remus series you can't start with this book. Even knowing all the characters I had to slow down and reread some lines to make sure I had identified the correct brother and/or mate. With six brothers and six mates it's a bit harder than it sounds.
Cross was so happy to find out that Jake's brother was his mate, that he figured after a few days of tender loving care and a reunion with his brother, Brandon would be good to go. Brandon was already a shifter so there would not be a fear of a big reveal. What he never counted on was Brandon's selfish personality and crazy family dynamics. If six brothers can get along why can't two? Talk about a cat fight. I didn't like Hound's irritating nickname for his mate Jake, but "Kitten" was really cute, especially with how small Brandon was in his shifted black house cat form.
Another huge surprise for Cross and the rest of the house was Brandon's addiction to the drugs he'd been given while being held captive by arch-enemy & Hyena shifter, Bowman. After a major crisis, the focus was on getting help for Brandon. That he rejected at every turn. Cross was at his wits end. How do you help someone who doesn't want it? Who is too ashamed to admit that he has a problem let alone accept help? Who tries running from it, denying it, suffering from it and fighting with his mate about it.
Brandon's irritability from his addiction and secretive sneaky cat habits, make him hard to get along with in a house full of people. And his risky behaviors put others in danger. He tries, but the cravings for the drugs are so strong he just can't say "No." His denial of the problem won't allow him to accept all the help being offered. He views it as trying to control him. Of others not minding their own business. Anything to pretend that the drugs aren't in control of his life.
Drew from the original Brac Pack series is invited to come to Sugar Creek to help, but his professional assistance is spurned as much as any other person in the Remus household. I vividly remember his struggle with addiction and strong desire to help others who are suffering through what he had. He knew drugs kept at bay painful memories. But once hooked the intensity of the cravings could make a person do things they or those closest with them never imagined. Though Brandon ignored him, Drew helped the others in Remus Brothers' house to deal with and anticipate some of the addict's mood swings, short temper, and devious schemes to acquire drugs.
Brandon's addiction led to the Remus Brothers pledging to do everything possible to put an end to the big time drug traffickers in their little city. Something which led to a great deal of danger, shoot outs, shifting, and the discovery of equally as worse criminal activities being perpetuated by the drug lords. But the silver lining in this big mess was the discovery of Houston's mate.
I couldn't wait for Amazon to make it available so I went directly to the publisher, Siren to get a copy of the final? book in this series featuring the sixth brother, HOUSTON. I really enjoyed it. I'll submit my review when the book becomes available on Amazon's site.
I don't read Hound's story so I don't get a full picture about who Brandon really is. All I know is that Brandon is Jake's brother which is Hound's mate and their parents are filthy rich but not the happy one. As far as I know, he likes to have "fun". Scrolling from bar to bar to get laid and never take life seriously. Brandon is a drug user, use it just for recreational purpose when he at the clubs. So when he drugged by Bowman, his boyfriend, with heavier dose for 2 weeks he become an addict.
I can understand when someone use drug or drowning in booze to ease the pain but I don't like when someone use drug just for fun like Brandon. How I'm gonna enjoy reading a book if I hate the MC in the first place. 2 starts solely because of that!

I have to ask myself... am I being too hard? am I being too picky? am I .. oops that just eluded me.. But I get the picture (of myself lol)
This is ok. It's not stand out and kind of mediocre. I had high hopes for these boys and they haven't been realized. This one in particular, while not a carbon copy, it basically goes over old ground. Result: An addicted mate. But we'll throw in super bad guy that outwits them.. I mean, really? The whole tracker thing and bugs... they didn't think the bad guys would figure it out or notice? With all the hokey back and forth with the tracker that should have popped up in their head.
I feel bad but I'm glad its finally at the last brother cus I think it's time to move on in the wider world of all things Brac-e-ness. Actually I kind of wish there was a good series title for the overall arc.. I just tag them as Brac Universe.
And as a last note, the last brother finding his mate while going after current brother's mate's tormentor is a little confusing. Devin and some others were doped up and all glassy-eyed. Cross seemed to think these humans were given the same thing as Brandon. If that's the case we'd now have TWO mates fighting addiction cus this stuff is powerful. I guess it could be that it doesn't effect humans the same way, or that it was actually just your more average knock out drugs.
It’s Cross’s turn to find his mate in this latest instalment of the Remus brothers saga, Drew and Remi make an appearance this time to help with drug withdrawals
Rating: 3.5 stars This book was way better than the other two I read in the series. Mainly because I liked Cross. Brandon was hard to like but grew on me as the story progressed.
The story focuses on Cross and his mate, Brandon (kitty cat shifter). They both have some difficult hurdles to get over and it was nice to have Remi and Drew show up to help out with a serious issue. This was exceptionally written and the story moves along at a moderate pace. I was saddened towards the end of the book, but happy that Houston had found his mate within all of the chaos. Thrilling and fierce, for sure. :)
