Re-read as my son reading for school. Initially, I thought the book had not aged well: definitely not an advertisement for modern feminism or in line with the "me too" movement. Subtle tones of racism throughout are probably, sadly, also an accurate reflection of the time. But..what a book! The second half is fast-paced, heartwarming, and terrifying. I also doubt I picked up on some of the sub-themes on my first reading. The character of Harding is sublime!
