Needless to say, I FLOVE the series that spawned this story! By my recent re-read of that, and as I got more hooked on m/m rom, my thoughts meandered some more around Darren…

I guess the literary gods have heard my thoughts!

For a really short read, I have lots of conflicting feelings about this:

1. This kind of taboo caught me off-guard as that wasn’t quite clear on the blurb. If it was, would I have been more interested? Not sure. I’ve been gearing myself up for this theme, so I can actually get to the number of what I was told are well written books I own already, call it a hang-up or whatever, but as it is, I wasn’t quite there yet. So let’s just say that Lola inadvertently forced me to dip my toes on this trope.

2. I’m not usually one for fanfics and when I read them as published works, they’re not of characters that are near and dear to my heart, so kudos to Lola for taking this on.

3. Stories of this length are always tricky. To be fair, I had to buy in to some of the emotions really quickly.

4. I’m not sure how I feel about the timeline as it covered a painful part in the Submission series. As nice as it was to see a glimpse of Monica and Jonathan at a crucial part of their relationship, I’m ambivalent about how Darren saw it.

5. Lola gave me a Darren that I did not expect, so that was interesting. Did I like it? I think jury’s still out. This has got nothing to do with Lola’s writing but I just can’t help thinking if this is how CD saw him too, sorry.

6. Too bad about Adam…

7. As much as Paul had all the alpha qualities I like, some of his words threw me off. In my head, someone wants to have his cake and eat it too.

8. Yes, the smexy times are smokin’ hot!

9. While this is not quite a winner in my head, I actually enjoyed the writing, and thank god, for that, because this is a first Lola read for me even though I own some of her other books already. And I was actually looking forward to reading those.

10. The story continues, which I guess I should’ve expected… am I interested enough to find out what happens?

3.5 "REALLY GOOD START" stars

Loved the Paul the Priest! If it would've been a dual POV it would have been so much better. Garden scene was pretty good & I loved the shadow of M&J. I thought the Club scene needed more added. There were some other parts that needed some work. I really liked this couple. They had the perfect amount of chemistry. The sex scenes needed to be expanded, but what was there was hot. I just needed Paul's "voice" to be sold on the idea. I love cliffies, as long as you follow it up w/ another book. The fact that this was a 1 time thing & do a cliffhanger, not cool. Other than that, I thought it was great. If another book follows that has a more complete ending, I will adjust the rating on this review. It was a quick, hot little read. I just need the dual POV & a HEA to boost to 5*!

Lust

OMG! I loved this short, smart, and sexy spinoff novella about Darren Sundry, who we originally met in the (Songs of)Submission series by CD Reiss. While his side character was a very important staple of the series, we only got a glimpse into his private life.

In Lust the author, Lola Darling, introduces us to a different side of Darren, a sexually charged side and stamps it with her unique style. And I loved it! Every dirty word, every dirty thought, every dirty action. Paul Kendrick, the object of Darren's Lust is what makes this novella smoking hot and oh so taboo. The attraction, the tension, the awakening, the fruition, the angst and the uncertainty...it's all here and it works for me.

Lust is intelligent and well written. The character development is outstanding and, for a novella, it doesn't have that rushed feel to it. I'm looking forward to more Darren and Paul from this author. Oh yeah, bring it on!

I'm giving this novella 5 stars.

This was a very Hot read!
Lola's prose was smart and lyrical. The characters were well developed and I enjoyed seeing this character's struggle.

You could feel the attraction between the two from the start and it was intense.

I drop to my knees without hesitation. Whatever he wants from me, whatever he wants to do to me, he can have it. I'll give him everything.

I fall to my knees, ready to pray at the altar of Father Kincaid.

I loved the Priest angle it worked so well and added a forbidden element that I really enjoyed. I can't wait to read more from this author!

2 (it was ok) stars

This is a hard review to write, mainly because I don't like writing reviews and it's even harder if I didn't really like the book.

I'll start by saying the author did a good job incorporating her story within the SoS chain of events and that totally helped me as I don't have the best memory.

Unfortunately I was blindsided by the fact it was a trope which I normally stay away from because IMHO it's hard to pull off well and that's totally on me. So while others may enjoy it I couldn't understand the lack of internal conflict or worry Paul showed I can continue but like I said this trope is not for me and I wish it was clearer in the blurb so I could have avoided it instead of giving 2 stars.

This is a spin off novella based on CD Reiss' Submission Series. The Submission Series is one of my favorite series! This novella was about Darren. The beginning was very emotional and brought back sadness from the original series. There are some hot scenes and the book ends with a "to be continued." I'm definitely curious to see what transpires. The writing flowed, and it was cool to get inside Darren's head! Well done!!!

The Drazen World: LUST is a fanfic novella based off author, C.D. Reiss’s Song of Submission (SOS) series. The Drazen World: LUST is about two men living secret lives for different reasons. What attracted me to this story was I wanted to see where this author took the character of Darren Sundry because he originated from SOS and I was curious to see how lust played a role in the story.

The Drazen World: LUST is told entirely from Darren's POV. He is adrift, stricken with feelings of grief and guiltiness and searching for answers why depression/suicide claimed the life of his beloved sister
I couldn't find a way to save her. She begged me to, every time those big, innocent blue eyes met mine, and yet, I let her fall.
Darren ultimately finds solace at the last place he expected- church and with Paul Kendrick, priest turn friend

Darren finds Paul captivating, commanding, and unnerving.
He has one of those penetrating gazes, the kind that make you feel totally, unnervingly seen, all the way down to your core.
Paul has been in the priesthood and celibate for five years. In that time he has never been tempted with feeling of lust or sexual desire until Darren. He demands order and control in his life.
"I can't resist you anymore, Darren. I need to have you."
I found the passages between these two dirty, filthy, and sinfully hot. The anticipation of what was to come drove me crazy.
He lets me unzip him, yank his pants to his knees and push his boxers past his twitching thighs. It's still dark, but my eyes have adjusted enough that when I catch an eyeful of his full, erect cock, I lick my lower lip, dying for a taste. God, he's fucking gorgeous. Thick, solid, curved upward at the tip just the slightest bit, and straining with lust. I flick my tongue over the tip, to catch the silvery bead of pre-cum forming, and he groans, his fist clenching my hair.
What I liked most about this book was the familiarity with the cast. It was nice to see Lola Darling didn't stray too far from the original characters and storyline as it felt like reading a continuation of Submit with Darren the main focus instead of Monica. I also liked the taboo element which is the unorthodox relationship between Darren and Paul. Because the blurb gave no indication of this type of trope, for me it was a pleasant surprise but for other readers this might be a turn off. In addition, there's someone who threatens this new found relationship that gives this read a bit of an edge besides the forbidden aspect.

I thought Lola Darling did a good job with expanding on the Darren Sundry character originally seen in the Songs of Submission novels by C.D. Reiss. Some parts of the book were a bit out there for me, but there were some realistic qualities there for sure that this author nailed. The Drazen World: LUST gets 4.5 I belong to you stars!

I liked the idea of more Darren cause there was so much left unsaid about him. I love the hot priest idea. I thought it started off strong but kind of fizzled near the end. I wasn't expecting a cliffie. Overall a 3.5 stars. I thought the writing was pretty good. I want to know more of Paul. So yeah pretty good.

ARC received in exchange for a review. This novella is based on characters in C D Reiss 's Songs of Submission series, which I FLOVE. It fleshes out Darren Sundry's private life and his awakening as a gay/bi man at a very vulnerable time in his life. I don't really read m/m rom so I can't compare the hot scenes with other books, but it seemed pretty hot to me. While I thought it was well-written, I didn't feel we were given enough information about Paul for him to be any more than a two-dimensional character. (Neither was Darren, but we already know him from SOS). Anything that allows me to spend more time with the SOS characters is like candy to me -- can't get enough of it. Cliffhanger alert. Also, I thought Darren and Gabby were orphans in SOS but they now have parents. Thought the cover was VERY HOT.

Loved it!

Our tie-in to Jonathan and Monica is through Darren, Monica's ex, band mate, and brother to Gabby. This story takes place right after Gabby committed suicide.

Darren is whirling in despair and while at the church receives solace from Father Paul Kendrick.

So you know - this is a m/m romance and one of the males is Father Paul, so we have the forbidden taboo element here to - so if that's not your thing...don't read this.

I thought this was surprisingly well written with good character development given the fact that it is novella length. The taboo of Father Paul, his pull towards the church, his pull towards Darren, his sexy Dominance, the garden scene? Deliciousness!

And a Cliffy! Gah! So I'm definitely on board for what's next!

4.5 This one took right off and I flew right through it. The forbidden attraction was part of what drew me in and m/m on top of it! Whew! Not to mention a blur of lines between 2 of my beloved authors whether intentional or not, had my pulse racing at just the implication.

I loved this authors take on Darren's inner turmoil during what was a very sad part of SoS for me. Trying to deal with his conflicting feelings for his sister and his new attraction toward Fr. Paul own lustful needs. I thought it was well done especially with the forbidden subject.

I will definitely continue on reading the next installment.

I was pleasantly surprised with this novella.

Lust is the story of Monica's ex and Gabby's brother. And what a story. It was hot and for the most part, amazingly written. This is not my first read by this author, and for sure won't be the last.

So I was surprised at the dept of this story for like 75% of it. I was really enjoying it.

But then some scenes were somewhat unbelievable, and the one that kind of disappointed me was the actual sex scene. I know, crazy! It was just ok for me.

And then...this ends in a cliff! A Cliff!!!! OMFreakingG lolol

Can't wait to read what comes next.

Very well done, and for sure a great read in The Drazen World. Awesome job!

Isn't lust one of the 7 deadly sins? Well, Lola Darling delivered a whole lot of it!!!!Darren is hurting from his sister Gabby's suicide and along comes Paul to help the loneliest.Dominating Alpha male, gorgeous, sexy, tempting but there is one thing about Paul that makes him forbidden...taboo? This book takes you into the CD Reiss Submission series world and takes you deeper in the characters lives. Congratulations Lola Darling you did it again!!!!

Woah, LUST is one sizzling forbidden novella.

Darren was losing control when Paul came and sat beside him. It only took one minute for Darren to start having lustful thoughts about him. He knows it's wrong to want him after all he's a Catholic Priest. Will they give into their temptation?

Complicated, dirty talk, scorching sex, ends in cliffhanger, and I can't wait to read more of Darren and Paul

Heck yeah, Darren got his story and what a naughty naughty boy he is!
I loved not only the taboo and the hot side of this story, but the fact that I was once back with Darren and Monica at such a hard time, yet seeing the situation in another light and from another character rather then the original POV of Monica.
Brilliant idea and story!

I was excited to read Darren story but this was not what I expected. I loved all of Lola's other books. But this was a lot different. I have read other M/M books but I don't like only having one of the characters POV. And I'm not a cliffhanger either. I didn't like that it was so short.
Thank you

A hot and sexy little novella with a touch of taboo. So much fun for a Drazen fan like me to jump back into that world and experience some of the same scenes only told from a secondary characters POV. I loved Darren in the Submission series by CD Reiss and was happy to see Lola Darling give him his own story... With a Priest no less. *whispers* The voyeur scene was my fave!

Boys will be . . .Naughty and oversexed apparently. The Drazen's LA get a dose of M/M in this hot, if slightly generic, offering. This take on Darren gives a whole new meaning to communion. I'm sure will find out about confession in due time.
