Iron Eagle Gym #3

The Luckiest Master

Rate this book
When Master Damien Richardson (Day to his friends) takes over the front desk manager job at the Iron Eagle Gym, he knows he’s going to need an assistant. But finding the right person for the job is harder than he thought it would be. When he meets Saw, he thinks he’s found the solution to all his problems, and maybe something more.

Sawyer Whitehead lost his master to a tragic car accident some years ago, and since then one opportunity after another has gone sour on him. Thoroughly convinced he’s cursed and a jinx to everything and everyone he touches, he refuses to officially become Day’s assistant because he knows that as soon as he does, something terrible will happen. He’s even more determined not to get involved with Day, despite his attraction, because it would kill him to be responsible for tragedy befalling the lovely man.

Day must convince Saw that he’s not cursed and that together, they can face any challenge that comes their way—in both their professional and personal partnerships.

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

I made it through to the end! I didn't like this one.
There were too many sex scenes that made me skim most of the at the end, I'm all in for let's get down and dirty....BUT please, give me a good story too!

Day & Saw relationship is like seeing the scene from Coming to america through the entire book.

It’s been a while since my last visit to the Iron Eagle Gym, owned by a group of Masters, and it was great to return and find out what’s going on. Master Tyrone has finally managed to get his overly conscientious sub, Bran, to stop working himself to the bone trying to be the perfect front desk manager for the club. Master Day has been hired to take over, and he is immediately looking for an assistant. Bran had been told he was doing the job of two people, and it turns out to be very true. Master Day already knows whom he wants – and not just as an assistant at work – but the sub he has his eye on, a slightly younger man called Sawyer (Saw for short) is weirdly resistant.

Doch Day denkt gar nicht daran.

I didn’t like this book as well as the first one I read in this series. I felt like the dialogue between Day and Jude was so redundant that it distracted me from the story. I probably would have rated it even lower if not for the excellent bdsm scenes. Several reviewers have complained that there are too many sex scenes. I enjoyed them, but I have to admit there were more of them than plot.

I’ll probably try more from this series since they are available from the public library.

Book: The Luckiest Master
Author: Sean Michael
Rating: 4 Stars

I cannot imagine going through the loss Saw has gone through in his life and not come out scared from it. He so truly believes that anything he touches dies whether it be a job, a company, or a boyfriend that he refuses to have any of those things in his life. He doesn't even acknowledge that he needs those things in his life. But he is the type of guy that thrives on being a caretaker for someone. It gives him purpose in life and makes him feel good. Even if he is in denial about it.

Day takes over as the front desk manager job at the Iron Eagle Gym after Bran had to quit and realizes the previous person was doing the job of two people so he knows he needs to hire someone for the job just as soon as he gets this next thing done. When he runs into Saw he immediately offers him the job but of course Saw refuses but agrees to volunteer since that’s not him actually working there...silly boy!

These two had some immediate chemistry going into this story but what they also had was it was like they were in sync with each other. They could move around each other and the longer they “worked” together the more Saw anticipated Day needs and the more Day realized he needed more from their relationship. But Day knows that as cautious as Saw feels he needs to take it slow with him so he tries to build trust between while at the same time getting to know Saw better. Before you know it they are a couple in all but words (and sex).

The author was able to create a story with loads of emotions, tons of sweet mushy love stuff, and hot to trot sexy scenes! Of course it’s BDSM so the hot sex is expected but for me the surprise was in how full of LOVE and romance even those scenes were right from the start. There was almost a soft and gentle feel to the whole style of the book and for a Master/slave type relationship I was floored! Day wanted to take care of Saw as much as Saw had a need to take care of Day. They needed to find their balance since Saw was so used to being a caretaker to his last Dom. Day’s other job...to convince this sweet loving man that he is not bad luck. Which thankfully was not an easy feat for Day since his Saw was very stubborn.

These characters are well written and fully developed along with a storyline that flows from one point to the next with no confusion or plot holes. Sen was able to connect us to Saw and the everything of his life to give us a greater understanding and that belief we needed in why he is the way he is without overloading the story with an information dump. We do get a connection with Day but since he is such a straightforward character the depth of his development is not as great but this in no way hurts the story.

This is the third book in the Iron Eagle Gym series, and even though the previous characters do play a part in this book it in no way impacts the story that much that this cannot be read as a standalone. I have not read the first two books but after reading and enjoying this one I will definitely be making it a goal!

This is a great read. It's part of a series but you don't have to have read the others, I didn't.

Day has taken over running the day to day operations of the Iron Eagle Gym. He needs some help, it's definitely a two person job. Saw offers to help him temporarily until he can find a permanent replacement.

Saw lost his master to a terrible car accident a few years ago and he feels that anything he touches turns to shit. People leave and job opportunities dry up. He has every intention of leaving when Day finds a replacement, the only problem is that Day doesn't intend to replace him.

Day plans on biding his time until he can talk Saw into the job and into his bed permanently. Day feels like he is getting Saw to lower his barriers when an attempted robbery at the gym leaves Day with a broken arm and Saw running scared.

Now Day has to figure out a way to prove to Saw that he isn't bad luck and that accidents happen without pushing him further away.

Loved this story. Saw was an amazingly strong character that I fell in love with immediately. He was so caring and thoughtful for someone who had been through so much. Don't get me started on Day, I get the warm fuzzies over him. Day is such a strong master without being domineering or heavy handed. He is so in tune with Saw's emotions that their relationship feels effortless, minus the anxiety Saw has.

This was a great story, with strong characters and a great plot line. I can't wait to go back and read the rest of the series.

2.5 rounded up for the first half.

Sawyer's partner died years ago, every time he applies for a job the place closes or he doesn't get it, so he's sure he's bad luck. He does volunteer to help Day run the gym but no pay therefore he can't jinx it. Of course before long he's serving Day (he's big into service, not so much the BDSM stuff - if any) but won't "date" him. FINALLY he decides and they get snowed in for the weekend. Skim, skim, skim. Sigh. It was doing well, there was actual story, them getting to know each other, then once they started smexin' they just didn't stop. Of course there's a bit of drama where someone breaks in to the gym and Day breaks his arm (tripping) and Sawyer (I refuse to call him Saw because that's weird - who is now called Jude which is his real name as his master named him Sawyer) is sure it's his fault so they "break up" for about a minute and a half and go back to having sex everywhere.

Well, almost. I was really disappointed that the first time or two for sex turned into time or 13. I get it, they're making up for lost time, but I was really enjoying the STORY, rather than just a lead up to endless sex scenes. I should know better but...

There's only a couple of cameos by other people from previous books so you can read this easily as a stand-alone.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the third in the series - but the first that I have read. I found it ok to read as a standalone, although I am sure that there were some continuity issues which I did not notice.

I liked the story, and the way that it delved into the issues that Sawyer had with believing he caused bad luck - I thought Day dealt with them effectively and imaginatively. There was a good length of time where these two skirted around these things and also about how attracted to each other they were, but once they opened Pandora's box ... well it never closed again! It was definitely sexy, although even more exploration into possible kinks would have been fun. The only thing that did annoy me a bit was the repetition of the term Master - a bit like some books overdo babe, or baby, here Master appeared 10 plus times on a page repeatedly, and in a way lost value.

This book and series is right up my alley. Lots and lots of sex! The chemistry between Day and Saw is off the charters and the love and respect they have for each other is amazing. Saw doesn’t like to commit to anything because he feels he is bad luck. Day has always wanted a boy to love and care for. These two tip toe around and flirt like crazy for months before they actually make things official and once they do it is off the charts hot. There is a little drama but nothing too much. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, the preview has me excited!
Characters: well written and easy to relate to
Sex: oh yeah!

Submission isn't just for the young

I love that several of my authors are showing that submission isn't just something that you do in your early twenties. It isn't as if a submissive grows out of his desire to submit, or suddenly realizes that he's now old enough to be dominant.

Day was the perfect master (perhaps it would have been better if he had at least one flaw, but this is fiction...). Saw was so closed off and his his loneliness so well that even he had begun to believe his own press. I loved that Day was able to introduce Saw/Jude to so much more in his submission than he thought was possible.

I'm loving this series....Saw really does believe he brings people bad luck so when he starts to help Master Day he doesn't really want to belong to him because it might put him in danger...But they are so good together....All through the book I was waiting for something bad to happen to Day and when it did my heart was in my mouth.....Really is an excellent addition to the Iron Eagle Gym series and can't wait for the next one x

4.5/5 - Ooohhhh Jordan did an oopsie. I read this book without having read the other two first and I really wish I had.

I gave this book 4.5/5 stars because it was really really good, and it probably would have been a 5/5 if I had read the previous two books before venturing into this little gem. There were a lot of inside jokes and things that I think I should've had background knowledge on that were probably mentioned in the other two books. I thought it would be fine to go head and read this as a standalone since other reviews stated that it would be fine by itself, but I absolutely disagree. You can get by without reading the others, but this is the kind of series that is written to create an experience for the reader and you kind of have to start on the first stepping stone to cross the water.

That being said, even with having the feeling that I was a little left out, this was a great book! I listened to the audiobook version, and I am just going to say that Jeff Gelder is downright sinful. I LOVED the audio version of this book. It was the right blend of sexy, sultry, angsty, romantic, and of course, dirty. I will warn you though, don't read this book in public. This book was pretty much erotica with a plot and I would 100% not recommend listening to this audiobook in the car. You might be ordering food when your phone decides to go berserk and just start playing the next chapter. Not that I'm saying that from experience or anything... (I'm just glad it wasn't mid-sexy times)

But while this book was pretty hot most of the time, there were other feelings mixed in there too. Sawyer went through a hell of a lot to get where he was and while he wanted to feel whole again, he wasn't sure he was ready to trust another person the same way he trusted his old Dom. Day just wasn't going to take no for an answer, though. He showed Saw that he had nothing to be afraid of and that he really could find love again. Having to listen to everything that Saw went through broke my heart, and then the charismatically charming Day swooped in and picked up all of the pieces of both me and Saw. Now that's talent.

In all seriousness though, I really did like this book. I love books that have an interconnected story like this. KC Wells Collars & Cuffs comes to mind as a similar kind of feel. Don't get me wrong, the books are completely different, but they both have that family feel to them and I got that vibe from The Luckiest Master without even reading the other books in the series first. I'll probably go back and read the first and second books and then come back and listen to this one again, because this was one hot read. 100% recommended!!!

An Iron Eagle Gym Novel

Oh my word, the things Saw has been through broke my heart. Thankfully, in true Sean Michael tradition, his would-be master, Day has everything Saw needs, just as Saw is the perfect man for Day. There is a certain comfort in these troubled times, in reading, or listening to a book that has a very low ‘angst score’.

The sex is plentiful (after a slowish burn), kinky and hot. Saw is such a complicated character who has the weight of several worlds on his shoulders, but he loves looking after Master Day. I adored the part in story where Saw got sick and Day went to Saw’s home to look after him. Such sweetness and love! Happy sigh.

Of course the ending is firmly in the happily ever after camp, as is necessary for me some days, and this was just what the doctor ordered.

Jeff Gelder has a slightly breathy, almost jerky style to his narration that I take a little while to get used to each time, but his voice is wonderful to listen to, and since it is very recognisable, he quickly transports me directly into the world of the book.

Highly recommended!

***4.5 Stars for this Incredible Story of Healing***

This is the third novel in the Iron Eagle Gym series, and there is little enough involvement from the first two books that this is absolutely a standalone. That being said, I highly recommend you read the first two, just because they’re wonderful!

Day takes over as front desk manager and finds himself with a rotating staff of subs helping him, but their “availability” is such that things aren’t working out well. Saw is a sub in the loosest sense of the word, but masterless following the death of his previous master. Well-set in life, he doesn’t need to work, but he’s bored, and when Day interviews him following a workout at the gym, he not only gets the job, he starts on the spot. One caveat: he won’t accept a paycheck. He is utterly convinced he’s bad luck, and taking a formal job means something horrible will happen. When an incident occurs, will Day have chipped away at this mindset enough for Saw to see things differently?

Sean Michael writes incredible BDSM erotica, and this is another shining example of the genre. Second chance love is one of my favorite tropes, so adding that into the mix just made it all the better for me. The plot is fairly straightforward, but there are all these subtle subplots and nuances that keep things from stagnating, as well.

The main characters are written well, though I would have liked to have had more background on Day. Virtually all of Saw’s life is covered, which made for a much deeper understanding of his mindset and cemented him firmly in my heart, but that depth is missing on Day. A minor issue, to be sure, but it would have better rounded things out for me. Similarly, there are a multitude of weeks that go by in the turn of a page, which threw off the pacing for me, as well, in addition to not really getting to watch the friendship that built before they moved on into becoming lovers.

The chemistry between the characters is amazing, and that is portrayed virtually from the start to the finish line. There are super sexy times along with a surprise from Saw’s time with his previous master that opened up all sorts of possibilities for this pair! The plot twist was expected and as such not much of a twist, but the immediate results of same were compelling and heart-grabbing. I was very happy with the ending, and I definitely look forward to more in this wonderful series!!

Review written for Love Bytes Reviews.

While not a fan of the gym myself, I have to admit that the idea of it is growing on me with every new book read in this series. Like the previous two books, The Luckiest Master was an easy read that combined both the love of BDSM and the love between two different, yet sexy, men all wrapped around the gym and friendships that bind them together. There are some brief cameos from the main characters of the first two books but the story itself is firmly wrapped around Saw and Day, two men who didn’t know they were looking for their other halves until circumstance brought them together.

I think what I liked most about this book was Saw and how he chose to express his submission; I don’t often get to read BDSM stories that are more focused on the service aspect and I found it both refreshing and interesting by turns. Saw was also fairly rigid in his personal control; after having lost his master of seven years and a bad run of luck in other ventures, he’s pulled back into himself about as far as a person can go without becoming completely agoraphobic. He spends a great deal of the book claiming he’s ‘zen’ when he’s really just refusing to let anyone in or to let himself feel and his personal ‘do not touch’ bubble is reflected in his apartment and the way he’s chosen to live.

Day was kind of a breath of fresh air; he completely understood where Saw was coming from even if he didn’t completely understand his reasoning and was willing to wait. I think this book actually had the longest gap between meeting and getting together out of all three in the series so far. I really enjoyed the slow start to things and found it completely adorable that Day was actively wooing Saw even if Saw didn’t realize it at first. It was also great to see that Day wholeheartedly believed that he should be taking care of Saw as much, if not more, than Saw was taking care of him.

This was a good way to spend the afternoon and I really did enjoy it. The author provided a good continuation to the series with interesting characters and enough drama to keep the book from coming across as one dimensional. While I wish we’d gotten more of a look at Saw’s reasoning behind his thinking that he was cursed, I was content with the view I did get and I enjoyed watching Day break down the walls that Saw had put up. Fans of Sean Michael and anyone that enjoyed the previous Iron Eagle Gym books should enjoy this one; if you like a little kink but don’t want it over the top and totally in your face, I’d recommend this for you, too. I really liked it and I’m totally looking forward to the next book, especially after the little glimpse I was given at the end of this one. ;)

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

This is the third book in the Iron Eagle Gym series and could easily be read as a standalone.

The one thing you are absolutely guaranteed when you read a Sean Michael book is that there will be LOTS of very creative sex. The Luckiest Master actually started off quite slowly in this respect as Damian and Sawyer got to know each other and I really enjoyed getting to know both these men before the sex fest began and things got a lot steamier.

Damian, or Day as he is more widely referred to, is a Dom who has recently taken over running the front desk manager job at the gym. It’s a huge task and it’s immediately apparent that he will need an assistant but finding the right candidate proves to be more difficult than he thought. When he meets Sawyer it seems like all his prayers have been answered, the man is perfect for the role, so he can’t understand Sawyer’s reluctance when he offers him the job.

Sawyer lost his master to an accident a few years ago. That was just the start of Sawyer’s bad luck – it seems that everything he touches or gets involved in fails in some way so he keeps himself to himself. He believes very strongly that he is a bad luck charm but these thoughts have made him lonely and prevented him from finding love again.

Day slowly drags Sawyer out of his own head, albeit sometimes kicking and screaming, and offers him way more than a new job. They fit well together but the constant battle to make Sawyer engage and leave behind his ‘zen’ is not easy. There is a lot of sex in this book, a great fisting scene and a sub who is learning all sorts of things about himself. There is definitely more to life than service and Day is determined to prove it to Sawyer and make sure he knows its forever.

i am not going to rate this one because i feel terrible for not liking it. i wanted to read this one for some time now and i was really excited when i won it during MM Romance Group Celebration this year, but this is NOT MY TYPE OF A BOOK.

i might not be a hardcore BDSM books fan but i do like a good book like this from time to time. Since I believe(d) that Sean Michael has a nice writing style i was quite sure it will be love from first chapter.

My fault here lies in the fact that as much as I believe that some ppl are pretty happy living in the lifestyle and i am ok to read about some pain and D/s relationships I am strongly against slaves. it is beyond me to understand why anyone would like to live like this.
This might be the main reason for my annoyance with this story, i simply did not feel it. I did not see any chemistry between Day and Saw, i did not like love declarations and even though some sex scenes were hot, during most of them i was bored. i didn't like any character in the story and this constant repetitive "Master Day" this, "Master Day" that, "good/pretty/pushy boy" made me irritated AF. I didn't like Day's jokes and everything felt forced and unbelievable. but this is MY opinion and ppl into life slavery may love it.

If i didn't win this and if i didn't believe that maybe just maybe i would like this i would have safeworded during reading before hitting 30% mark.

Thank You, Sean Michael, for giving me this book and giving me a chance to read it and i am sprry i didn't raise book's rating.

Sawyer is feeling as if it wasn't for bad luck he would have no luck at all. He hides himself away and denies his own needs with the idea that he is saving someone else from danger.

I love how Master Damien really sees him and also knows how to reach him. Watching the relationship build is a thing of beauty. The moment Damien brings Jude back into the picture show just how much he gets Sawyer, who he is and what he truly needs to move forward in life.

Love these strong and caring men.

Mmmmm, a 2.5* read really, getting the up mainly because it was easy to read and mostly kept my attention.
I do prefer more of a story - I think overall there was probably 1 chapter of story and the rest was sex! But this is Sean Michael so not totallyunexpected!!
I did feel that Day and Jude fell into their relationship far too easily, everything was far too rosy for me to fully buy into.
I have not read the other booksin the series but this one was easy to read as a standalone. I ended up with lots of questions that I thought would be answered but that were not.

Hey Jude,

MM masterpiece

I found and fell in love with Sean Michael when he was publishing under Torquere Press. While waiting for him to shift his books over to Amazon I tried out other MM authors but found most to be lacking. Sean has a way of capturing a beautiful snapshot of a couple's journey. Every story is strong in terms of plot and character development but I truly love the consensual sexual relationship Sean writes. He showcases the beauty that is a healthy BDSM relationship that is defined by safe, sane, and consensual.

A wonderful continuation of the series

This is lovely. Sean Michael can write an excellent book at times and this is one of them.
A thoroughly enjoyable, hot piece of escapism to relax to after work.
Both Day and Saw were lovely personalities, and I was rooting for them to make their relationship work, but like all good relationships, things have to be worked through and discussed before happiness is guaranteed.

Aww I love jude....so sad, broken, lonely, fearful, loving, sweet, caring. Master Day was what he needed to start really living life again, and learning what true love means. Master day found his perfect friend, lover, partner, sub, and truly the love of his life.
I loved these two together. Sexy, sweet, loving, perfection
