Better than most.

Pros:
Unique, exiting and enjoyable. A new kind on fanfic that knows what it is and what it's doing. And has fun with it. Very good villains. Plot's solid. Has it's own take on the hp universe that's as intriguing as it is dark.

Cons:
Takes itself too seriously at times. Charcters are underdeveloped (though not necessarily bland). Sometimes becomes the tropes it claims to subvert. Lampshades. Rambles.

All in all, worth reading. Some incredible moments. Can be silly, tragic and clever all at once. Has gotton better and better. Hope it updates soon!

This by far the best harry potter fanfiction ever written alongside methods of rationality. It's keeps you hooked up from the very first chapter. Sinister man explains the harry potter verse thoroughly and perfectly. The characters are also perfectly written. It deserves more credit

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Prince of Slytherin series by The Sinister Man is, without exaggeration, one of the most gripping and immersive reading experiences I’ve ever had. From the very first chapter, I was hooked, and I can honestly say I’ve never been able to put it down. What makes this series extraordinary isn’t just the alternate take on the Harry Potter universe—it’s the depth of the worldbuilding, the richness of the characters, and the care with which every plot thread is developed.

The world of Hogwarts and the wizarding universe is familiar, but The Sinister Man twists it in ways that feel daring, surprising, and utterly engaging. The “Wrong Boy-Who-Lived” premise immediately sets the stage for tension, identity struggles, and emotional depth, while later chapters continue to expand the universe with intricate political, magical, and interpersonal dynamics. The lore feels alive and consistent, with small details rewarded in later chapters, making the series feel incredibly cohesive despite its ambitious scope.

The characters are what truly elevate the story. Harry’s arc is raw, complicated, and satisfying; he’s flawed, struggling, and constantly growing in ways that feel earned. Neville, Hermione, and other secondary characters are given the space to shine, and their development is handled with nuance and care that canon sometimes overlooked. Jim Potter’s presence adds an extra layer of emotional tension and sibling rivalry that drives much of the series’ heart. Every interaction, every choice, carries weight, and even minor characters feel like real people with agency and depth.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this series is the sheer scale of it. Later chapters often run as long as an hour’s worth of reading or more, with detailed scenes, complex conflicts, and emotional beats that never feel rushed. These long chapters allow for fully realized character moments, intricate plot developments, and immersive worldbuilding that keep you hooked for hours. You feel like you’re living inside the story rather than just reading it.

The pacing is excellent: the story balances tense plot-driven moments with quieter, introspective scenes that give the characters room to breathe and grow. Even when the narrative takes its time to explore relationships, motivations, or magical theory, it never feels boring—every chapter has its own rewards, and the stakes continue to rise as the series progresses.

The Sinister Man is a masterful storyteller. His writing is emotionally engaging, thrilling, and clever, and he knows exactly how to keep the reader invested. I find myself amazed at how consistently he maintains tension, surprises, and depth throughout the series. His work is a shining example of what fanfiction can achieve: professional-quality storytelling, fully realized alternate universes, and characters that feel real and vital.

I’ve been so impressed that I’ve already queued up his audiobook Strangers in Boston on Audible for after I finish my current reading—there’s no doubt in my mind that it will be equally compelling.

If you love immersive worldbuilding, richly developed characters, and stories that keep you engaged for hours, the Prince of Slytherin series is a must-read. It’s ambitious, daring, and completely addictive. Five stars do not feel like enough for this incredible work.

I've plowed through the first two books in a matter of days - which, if you jump in, you will realize just how impressive I am :) Listened to the audiobooks all day, from the moment I was falling asleep to the moment I woke up. The pacing is so nice, and I feel like this series gives me a broader view of what was going on in the HP universe (albeit, the story is most certainly not beholden to the original) - makes me feel like the original HP moved to fast and was too high-level. The Sinister Man gives breathing room, depth, and greater context re: other characters, even making me like / want to like characters I previously strongly disliked.

I love the way the author plays with diverging and converging with the original story, and I felt like it generated the same feelings in my body that the original series did the first time I read it in childhood - a good handle on the vibe without feeling like a copy/paste. Also felt like, when characters take different paths than in the original HP, it still feels right - like, "oh...I could see them being this way, that feels very true to the nature of their character in this different universe."

Now on the third book, bracing for when I get caught up (though, with so much to devour, I originally thought it would take me a zillion years to get to where I am - but I guess that's what happens when you have it playing 24/7).

I will say, speaking to the richness / depth - there are so many different stories interwoven, so I find myself going back if I think I missed even a name or word so I don't lose anything that will come up later, because I've found it so rewarding to experience the different moments when things come together - lots of mysteries. I don't wanna put it down, and I don't wanna miss any detail. Still, I'll forget some things, but the author does a good job of knowing when to remind me, which is nice.

Lastly, I find myself smiling and laughing out loud so often with this series. Not just because there are funny moments, but also because some things are just absolutely absurd, but written in a way as if it's totally normal (i.e., house elves at the end of book 2) - as if I'm on my way to work and suddenly someone glitter bombs me on the train, sprays me with silly string, spins me around, and then runs off the train before I can open my eyes back up, leaving me...befuddled? It's just so playful in a really sophisticated way. So happy to have found these and that The Sinister Man has been so generous to give me soooo muuuuch cooontent. I have no idea how The Sinister Man is able to generate so much high quality storytelling and writing within a short time period.

Bu arada Slytherin'in Prensi konusu konuşulur. James ise Dumbledore'a yemin etmesi karşılığında Harry'den nefret etme nedenini söyler.

Interesting ideas executed amateurishly. Suspension of disbelief is absolutely necessary to read this story. The perpetual 'comedic' undertone clashing with the serious nature of the plot and mystery subgenre only make this worse.

This is also so much longer than it needed to be for a canon/fanon rehash. I’m hoping things diverge quite dramatically more to justify the 1.2 million word count (and counting!) of this unfinished series. This book could’ve easily been told in less than 10 chapters.

A side thing I hated:

This author does that incredibly annoying thing where characters (including the protagonist) know things but the narrator hides it from the audience for cheap dramatic suspense. Sometimes the author intentionally cuts a scene short just reveal what happens a chapter later.

In this book, the protagonist has important information that will be hidden "until he absolutely needs to" reveal it to the audience. According to the author "it will be awesome. There may be hints, but it won't be officially revealed for a while."

Provocative content should be naturally incorporated into a story! Superficial nonsense like this is one of my biggest pet peeves. The audience is reading from the protagonists perspective so the audience should only be ‘surprised by awesomeness’ when the protagonist is!

Quite enjoyable. Methodical, crafty, analytical Harry without being as obnoxious as Methods of Rationality. I'm really liking Neville and Theo. I want to really like Blaise, but with that ending I don't know. He's great, but I don't know if I should trust him. Which, I suppose is the mark of a well-written Slytherin.

The character deviations from canon are generally plausible, Snape's a little less so. It seems like Jim is going to get more depth as we go on. The book seems to be out to fill every plot hole in the original. Sometimes this is funny or works well. Other holes are a bit distracting to fill.

I'm really liking the treatment of Slytherin House. It's not as good as The Changeling, but that would be hard to top. I'm excited to see where the sequel goes.

Not my first time reading this wonderful work, but amazing all the same. The Sinister Man has clearly put so much thought and devotion into expanding this universe and explaining the wizard in’s world in depth. Would absolutely recommend to fans and non-fans of HP alike! I’m convinced this series is better than the original.
It’s certainly not as transphobia or racist ! (It’s not either. It handles both topics incredibly well and professionally )

An enjoyable read overall with some really interesting changes made to the world. Obviously takes a lot of inspiration from HPMoR but it just doesn't quite hit the same for me. I felt like during longer monologues characters ended up sounding very similar and lacked their own voice. Given the next book is over 1000 pages and the one after that is almost 2000 pages long I'm not sure that I'll keep reading.

Having read HPMOR, I think no fanfiction can reach that height.
However, this was well done as far as fanfictions go. Did not drag on, which is more than I can say for the later books. It presented an interesting premise. A solid 5 star, worth my time, and was enjoyable.

Really good start with good content and possibility of greater continuation.

It really breaks my heart how some characters are so ooc of what I read and love but this is what fanfiction is all about and I am here for it

P.S. this book was at least 400 pages!! The page count on this app is so wildly incorrect it bothers me

Really takes the worst of HPMoR with none of the good. Subversion of canon with worse replacements doesn’t make for a clever book, and the writing isn’t strong enough to carry it.
