I really enjoy reading about experiences which are far from my own but particularly if the author has overcome something difficult and won. Alice King’s story is one of triumph. If anything, I could have done with fewer descriptions of wines but that didn’t distract from her story.

A really riveting read. King, the daughter of a wine merchant and blessed with a superb palate, became a well-known wine-taster and author. In this book she tells of her descent into alcoholism (on only the very best champagnes and wines) and how she pulled herself up from the depths. Told with great style.
