Reading this for my new job, a very valuable insight into large institutions holding vulnerable people against their will under a justification of supporting them. I liked how this was largely told by people with learning disabilities, and I appreciated how nuanced the authors were in relation to the role of staff. Having previously worked long stretches on a residential summer camp for people with special needs, I could relate to how staff become institutionalised too, and the need for both staff, but mainly service users to exercise independence and free will.
