Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.

A.J. Newman is the author of over 22 novels that have been published on Amazon. He was born and raised in a small town in the western part of Kentucky. His Dad taught him how to handle guns very early in life, and he and his best friend Mike spent summers shooting .22 rifles and fishing.
He read every book he could get his hands on and fell in love with science fiction. He graduated from USI with a degree in Chemistry and made a career working in manufacturing and logistics, but always fancied himself as an author.
He served six years in the Army National Guard in an armored unit and spent six years performing every function on M48 and M60 army tanks. This gave him a great respect for our veterans who lay their lives on the line to protect our country and freedoms.
He currently resides in Kentucky with his wife Patsy and their three tiny mop dogs, Sammy Cotton and Callie.

I was hoping the writing would improve from book 2 but, sadly it did not. Not only does it need a decent proof-reader but still there are issues with sentence construction, awkward wording and a lot of running dialogue where it is tough to know who is saying what. For some reason, the book had to throw into the mix comments about getting rid of the problem liberals in the government. Really? Liberals were the problem? I guess I didn't see that the autocratic bad guys were liberal too. My bad. The plot was all over the place. It starts about where #2 left off with the group hiding from big bad Prescott. However, Prescott for the most part fades into the background and is not even a blip. Todd, who appears to be set up as a bad guy in prior books, is really not a major factor in any of these books. The group goes from hiding to moving to another town and then suddenly decides to race to the Gulf to escape. The president, lauded as an honest politician, nonetheless allows the murder of the problem (I guess liberal?) opposition in government. This book ends abruptly, way abruptly. I don't mind that since I think I am done with this series.

Day American Died

Just finished reading the three books in this series and really loved every one of them. The way the author describes the people and their problems after the EMP is just the way it may turn out. If you like end of the world books with alot of action then you have to get these books.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this series. Unfortunately I've been unable to put it down which led me to reading it way to quickly. But definitely looking for to more to come. This is very thought provoking and realistic. I could unfortunately see this happening in the future...

The third in a series of post apocalyptic America books that, like the society it portrays, is spiralling downhill.
The basic plot and characters are great, but it is let down by an apparent total lack of proofreading.
Typos, broken sentences, repeated phrases, misplaced random punctuation and rambling conversations with no structure to help the reader understand who said what.

Somewhat good read!

I enjoyed the first book and somewhat the second book, but did not thoroughly enjoy the third book! The USofA was depicted as being incompetent, utterly disorganized, and unable to establish any means of security to what was left of the population.

Great

Another great book by A.J. Newman. I loved these characters in this book. I would recommend this book and all of A.J.’s books. I listened to this book on audiobook.

Five stars is not adequate to rate some books. This is one of those books. If I rated on the following items it would be thus:

Writing 4.7
Character development as a whole, 5
Plot, well there it gets more difficult for me. For all of my conservative friends, I would give this a resounding endorsement. It did not speak so well to me as a sometimes writer. I am not opposed to letting my politics into my writing if I am writing with that audience in mind. Since I don't see it marketed that way, the political aspects of it are poorly executed. It was like going to church and getting a sermon on why I should vote Republican instead of receiving religious instruction. It isn't even the Liberal bashing so much as it is Breitbart/Alex Jones mentality at going about it.
I am hoping that it is something the author had to just get out of his system, as this is my first exposure to his writing, and the next book will be more mature about very complex issues and avoid the Fox News one liners at least some.
The subject is one that I enjoy and will be starting the next book straight away.
EDIT:
The politics are a systematic problem. I will not looking to read more of this author's books.
