The Life of Geraldine X

Rate this book
Lisa Turner is a 42 year old caterer who hasn't had a date in several years and spends all of her evenings with her fat orange cat, Julia, or the lonely children next door. One dull Sunday, she finds a CD in a supermarket parking lot that contains a psychic reading given for a woman named Geraldine, who is destined to meet a handsome stranger. Lisa's curiosity is aroused by the other woman's potentially interesting drama, and with the assistance of her devious business partner, Steffy, she hatches a plan to meet and steal the mystery man.
The plotting becomes complicated as Lisa and Steffy meet the real Geraldine, and when the man, wealthy and powerful entrepreneur, Andrew Devin, proves to be aloof and elusive. In the meantime, Lisa must cope with Steffy's budding relationship with another chef, constant intrusions from the neighbor children, and her own lurking self doubts, kept in check with copious amounts of alcohol.
Told from Lisa's snarky, self-deprecating point of view, Geraldine X is a light-hearted narrative of a woman's midlife crisis point. Come along with Lisa as she navigates a complex and confusing dating world, and tries to change her life without becoming a romantic comedy cliche'.
