Trouble swaggers in black leather, and a happy ending never comes easy.
Jessica I'd been abused too long, had to leave the man that made my skin crawl with fear. With my mother dying, I'll have to take an undercover job that I never wanted. They always told me working for the paper had its perks, somehow I doubt they had this in mind. Infiltrate a brotherhood of badass bikers? Not a problem. Fall for a rugged, tatted up outlaw who'd kill me if he knew my secrets? Sh*t. Get mixed up with a rival gang; have my life put into question, escape the wrath of my unstable ex and still make it home in time to feed my dog? Well, even I can admit when I'm in over my head.
Hunter Business as usual for me; moving product, keeping the gritty underworld in check. This was my life, and I held the world by the balls with my brothers at my side. Still, the vote to get me patched in hasn't passed - now I have to figure out what's holding me back. The answers I never knew I needed hit me like a ton of bricks, when that gorgeous girl showed up. She's got a mouth on her, and a temper to match the devil. I keep telling myself she'll be another notch on my post. But I can already feel it. That thorn in my chest that won't go away, for the first time in my life I felt helpless. F*ck. She doesn't know it, but I'll make her mine. I'll claim and ravage her sweet body, until there's no doubt that I own her.
HUNTER is a full length, 100K word, two-scoops of panty melting HEA goodness, bona-fide bad-boy romance. There are NO cliffhangers, and plenty of steam.
The beginning was really really good. I was so excited. Jessica seemed to be really awesome. And Hunter? He seemed to be this dark, dangerous and delicious biker. I was in book-heaven.
But then reality set in. The more I read the more the book seemed to change. I was expecting a romance book with bikers and all that it entails. But that wasn't what I got.
Hunter the hero wasn't even a real member of the MC. He wasn't patched in yet. Huh, that was so strange. I read a lot of MC Romance and I have an idea of how it's supposed to be. So I was really surprised by Hunter. He did jobs for the MC, was informed on all the businesses and secrets. Even thought he wasn't patched in. I thought that all the members of an MC that aren't patched in yet are Prospects. And Prospects do the stuff that the other MC members don't bother with. But they aren't let in on club secrets and certainly don't make important decisions.
When Hunter was first introduced to us he seemed to be this dark, dangerous male. But the further the story went on, the more "normal" he became. He was so polite, didn't swear, was going on "dates", introducing Jess (who he knew for one day) to all of his friends and so on. He totally lost his dangerous vibe. He seemed like a college student. Harmless and puppy-like.
So my interest in Hunter evaporated. Proof and gone. Really tragic.
Holly (Hunter's ex-girlfriend and now friend > yeah, right) got on my nerves. She behaved like an old lady (even if she wasn't one) and was always rude to Jessica. And Hunter didn't seem to clue in on that. Hmm... She even got a background check on Jess with an other MC member. That would not have happened in any other MC book that I've read. That wasn't really her place.
Jess's mother has cancer. But the insurance wouldn't pay for treatment. Therefor Jess was really sad and heartbroken. And guess what? At the end they had the money or whatever and Jess's mother could get her treatment nonetheless. Without much explanation. It all felt like an afterthought.
And the ex of Jess? The villain? Why the hell would she be with such a looser? He didn't have any money to support them, was nasty and abused her. And she let it all happen. This didn't match with her character at all! And her dog is really stupid!
I skipped the epilogue. Wasn't really interested in it.
The book had potential. The writing style was good. But somehow the main story go lost. It would have been more believable if not for the MC part of the book.
TITLE OF BOOK: HUNTER: HELLS REAPERS #1 AUTHOR OF BOOK: LIZ K. LORDE DATE READ: MARCH 17, 2017 – March 18, 2017
IS THERE A HAPPY ENDING FOR HUNTER AND JESSICA?
This is only the second book I have read by Liz K. Lorde. So, I am just learning about her writing and how she writes her characters and her story. I love a good MC romance and “Hunter” is the first book in her Hells Reapers series. While I found the characters interesting and the story line was good, I started losing interest around Chapter 18. But then it started picking up again little over half way through the book. I liked the connection between Hunter and Jessica and how they felt the connection their selves at their first meeting. It is still a good book and I would recommend it to any MC reader.
Jessica is trying to get ahead in the newspaper business but even she has her demons. Even though she has her own demons that could prevent her from doing the undercover job that she needs, but doesn’t want. One of her demons is an Ex-boyfriend who exploited her and her trust. Not to mention that she feared him and he made her nauseous. She has been recommended to replace a sick employee for the paper and then she finds out her assignment is one she doesn’t particularly want, but the pay would her help her pay for the medical expenses for her mother who is dying of cancer. Now how hard could it be to infiltrate a badass motorcycle club and get the information needed to bring them down. Her biggest problem with this job is her way in to the Hells Reapers MC is a tatted outlaw biker that is too hot for his own good, and hers!!! Oh, and now she not only has to fear the wrath of the MC if she is found out, but she still must worry about the unstable Ex that won’t leave her alone. Well she thought she was being cool when she met Hunter of the Hells Reapers and spent much of the night with him and two of his buddies. But as things progress between her and Hunter, she begins to realize she falling for him and she must put distance between. Can she give him up? Will Hunter and his brothers of the MC find her out? Could it be that she is in over her head?
Hunter is a member of the Hells Reapers MC and the members of the MC are his family. His biggest concern is that they still haven’t patched him in and he must figure out why, and what he must do. Then he meets the fiery redhead that he started calling her “Firecracker” because she wouldn’t tell her name at first and she had a fiery temper to match her red hair. He thinks she is going to be an easy conquest even though she has mouth on her and a temper that would put the devil to shame. But he realizes that she is more than just another one of his conquests and he wants her. He wants to make her his own and he wants to make sure she knows she belongs to him!!! Hunter has his demons, but he knows that she has her own demons. Will Hunter and Jessica be able to make things work between them? Will Hunter find out the big secret she is keeping?
No Spoilers. Advanced Reader Copy read voluntarily.

This book had so many possibilities. But, the author needs to write about what she knows. She was making Hunter into a Millennial. Excuses about why he was in a motorcycle club. So much talking about their feelings.
I have to admit I couldn't finish the book. The club took this girl with them on a job AFTER Hunter found out she was writing a story about their criminal behavior.
Jessica is given a shot at the newspaper she works for to go undercover and write a scandalous piece about a biker club when the original writer gets sick. Hunter is the target on how to get in according to the original writer, but Jessica doesn't expect to fall for him or him for her. Jessica starts to struggle with she actually write the story as she gets to know the members better and falls for Hunter. To make things even more interesting her psychotic ex ups his game towards Jessica. How does the story unfold? What happens next? Read the book and fund out!
This is the first book that I have read by Liz Kathryn Lorde. It took me a little bit to get into this book. I did enjoy Hunter's character. This book was a little on the long side and to be honest I skipped a bunch of it but was able to keep up with it. I enjoyed the ending.
I really liked this MC romance. The beginning is a little slow, but quickly picks up and will have you reading late into the night. Loved Hunter, he's a perfect book boyfriend. I truly enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend it to everyone.
First, love the cover. Hunters image pulls you in to want to open the book & read his story. Second, I had a hard time getting into the beginning of the book but then I was pulled in & the pages flew. I gave it 4 stars for the following reasons. When I am reading I hate the flow to be disturbed by editing errors. It annoys me that writers pay for someone to edit their stories & there are errors. Also most MC do not discuss business with their girls/wives. I clearly understand Hunter wanting & needing to share everything with Jessica but men are tight lipped about business. This being said it put an unrealistic element to the story. I would be interested to know what type of research you did? I could feel how Jess grew in confidence, self worth & survival. When Tommy took her I was yelling cut him. I wanted her to live! Reading about Hunter was real to me. Although society has preconceived ideas about MC, they are people from different walks of life. I don't think the part involving Hunter, Jameson, Reyes & Jerry was too gory. This is part of a lifestyle, it is family. Things are handled no differently in a large Italian family, where mob is involved. I enjoyed the part when he becomes a dad & breaks a cycle by wanting to do right by his children. I am sure that your struggles will become less as your story evolves.
For an MC romance, some of the descriptions in this book are downright poetic. The term of fingers pressing against your heart? Beautiful. It’s got a healthy dose of humor to it, too. It’s definitely an insta-love kind of story. Once it got going, holy cow- tons of action! There were some shocking moments for sure! The repeated use of they for Carl bugged me a little, seemed overdone. Near the end, something messed up and it repeated a chapter and then cut back into the scene. Was a little confusing. Other than that, I LOVED this story and can’t wait for the next in the series!
I received a copy of this ARC from Exclusive ARC in exchange for an honest review. Excellent read!!! Jessica was a very strong women, there wasn't anything she wouldn't do. Hunter was the typical bad boy biker and he wanted Jessica. I loved the journey that they took together. Definitely a book full of action, violence, conflict and plenty of romance. The story itself was riveting. I found I didn't want to put the book down until I finished it. Written very well and I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.
I received a complimentary copy from Exclusive ARC...
This book definitely had a lot of action. There was brotherhood, betrayal, love and loss all wrapped up in this story. This book starts off a little slow, but the action builds quickly and continues through out. Jessica at times could be very annoying and Hunter had to be the toughest softy I've ever come across.
There were some points in the book that were not very believable such as: a bad employee getting the best job (unsafe?) opportunity for no reason or Hunter being a glorified prospect until the end of the book.

I received HUNTER as an Exclusive ARC for an honest review.
This is my first book written by Liz K. Lord and I loved it! I read a couple of MC'S books and HUNTER did not disappointed me.
Jessica works a Newspaper and is sent by her boss to go undercover to investigate Hell Reapers MC's. On her first night she meets Hunter...a HAFG! Anywho...they meet and are smitten by one another.
As the night goes on...he gives her a ride home on his bike...and....
I really want to make this a 5 star read but there was touch fill in and very unbelievable start. Could be a hell of a lot better but has a good line and some creative writing behind it. I wish I could just print it all out correct a few things delete a whole lot and send it back to the author.
I really liked this book!! Everything a MC book should be. The characters were enjoyable and had great chemistry. It was well written with a great story line. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
Hunter is hot but thinks something is missing from his life. Jessica is a hard worker who will do anything to help pay for her mum's treatments. Her boss set her a task to infiltrate Hunters MC and expose them but when she gets to know him and the guys she falls for him.
Good solid read. I love MC romance and this didn't disappoint. There is a combustible chemistry between Jessica and Hunter. I received this exclusive arc in exchange for an honest review.
Loved! While it is dark at times, it didn't seem out of the realm of possibility so that was a plus. Hoping for more stories in this series, maybe about Jameson or Reyes? Fingers crossed!
I would have to say that Lorde must have done her homework in delving into all the possibilities of a biker club. It was definitely toned down, but it covered the surface. What stood out was Jessica and Hunter...so different and yet so very much the same when it comes to being broken. Yeah, there were differences and yet bringing the two together gave them back all the missing pieces. It also showed that even a family of bikers have their betrayals and it isn't always someone they already labeled a rat. Sometimes you don't see what is staring you in the face. I cried over the loss of Pooh Bear, but so glad that it apparently was the only loss worth crying over here.
I very much enjoyed this read and will be keeping my eye open for more of Lorde yet to come.
