As the headquarters of the British monarchy, Buckingham Palace is a royal residence like no other. It is one of the only remaining working palaces, and in its sumptuous interiors The Queen receives, rewards and entertains visitors from across the world. This new souvenir guide traces the history of the Palace from private family retreat to the world-renowned landmark that it is today. Through over 140 illustrations it reveals the dazzling rooms and magnificent works of art that provide the backdrop to The Queen's official and ceremonial duties.
Almost two years after my visit to the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace (and buying this guide) and being midst in binge-watching The Crown now seemed the perfect time to finally read this book. :)
The (architectural) history of the palace is briefly told as well as the occupants of Buckingham Palace since Queen Victoria. Most of the guide is devoted to the different rooms with their functions and their art/furniture decorations. Becauce of this concentration on the rooms, one can't fully comprehend the history of the transformation from Buckingham House into Buckingham Palace as of today. Nonetheless this little book is very informative with many photos of the rooms and illustrations from the different time periods.
