Transcendental Problems of Philosophic Thought: An Inquiry Into the Transcendental Conditions of Philosophy

Rate this book
From the Preface: "There have come to me over a period of many years repeated requests for an exposition of the fundamentals of my philosophy in the English language, since my Dutch works do not make it accessible to those in America and England who are interested in it.

"I hope this brief treatise, which I now present, will satisfy this wish in some degree.

"It contains a transcendental critique of philosophic thought, in terms of what the “Philosophy of the Law-Idea” has discovered to be the intrinsic and necessary connection between religion and science. Its own positive contribution to philosophy is only mentioned in passing. I hope soon to find the opportunity of publishing a larger work in the English language, in which this subject will be treated in detail."

Some brilliant insights, but marred by being a very tough read.

This is not a book for those with a budding interest in Reformational philosophy or the thought of Herman Dooyeweerd. It does not have the clarity of argument nor the flow that his other influential works have, such as Roots of Western Culture or In the Twilight of Western Thought.
