July: At Calendar's End, Book Seven

Rate this book
Julian has returned, but with him comes a maelstrom of doubt and treachery as another loss rocks the Intercalary. This time, with their enemies revealed, the loss is almost too painful for the Intercalary to bear. In the aftermath, true colors will be revealed.

The thin line between hero and monster will blur in the misery of loss, and in that gray area between good and evil, even Ember won't be sure which side anyone is really on anymore.

Andy Lockwood is a writer, an artist, and above all: a dreamer. He got his start in screenwriting and filmmaking where he discovered his obsessive love of storytelling.
He is the author of two novels, Empty Hallways and House of Thirteen; a 12-part serial thriller, At Calendar’s End; and is a regular contributor to horror anthologies. He is always working on another piece of writing, whether it is a novel, a story, or something else entirely. When not slaving away at the keyboard, he spends his time buying books he does not have time to read, and delving into mediums he has no time to fully explore, but he dabbles in them anyway.
He lives in mid-Michigan with his amazingly talented and entirely-too-supportive wife, their delightfully boisterous daughter, a brood of cats, and a misguided idea of what it means to be an adult.

What makes this series quite compelling is that with each new installment more information comes to mind. You find out who the mastermind is behind the executions and it's not what you expect although when you figure it out, it made perfect sense. Plus, the camaraderie of the group is peeled away to reveal that no one had has any idea of who to trust. Perhaps being immortal for so long took its toll. As of this story, no one remembers how they became the beings who they are.

Julian's death was relief for him. When Tobin (October) you can guess why. Lockwood does a great job in personifying the months. As the danger grows, the facade of the group crumbles. It's brilliant.

HOLY DARKNESS BATMAN
So Andy Lockwood is typically a horror writer and that was all too apparent in this volume of At Calendar's End. Tobin is SICK, and I LIVED for it! Graphic torture abounds as "justice" is served to the betrayer of the Intercalary.

Even Ember shows a bit of a dark side as she turns her back on Julian and let's Tris do her thing. Some other significant revelations abounded and Ember continues to come into her new found powers, the torture scene just stole this novella though. Sick, graphic, twisted...what a fun volume. :p And we're over halfway through now, heading in for the ride of the last half of this series!
