Society Lost, Volume Two
Betrayal is the second installment of the post-apocalyptic and dystopian thrill ride of the Society Lost Series! If you like SHTF, TEOTWAWKI, vigilante justice, prepper, dystopian, post-apocalyptic tales filled with action, adventure, tragedy, and triumph, join Jessie Townsend as the struggles in his collapsing world continue.
After leaving Spence and the rescued girls with Jӧrgen and the remainder of his group, former Sheriff Jessie Townsend traveled the new and unforgiving world alone and on foot, continuing his quest to find his sister.
Still suffering tremendously from his tragic loss, Jessie walked the Earth as a prisoner of his own thoughts. Armed with his trusty old Colt Single Action Army pistol and an AR-10 platform rifle, Jessie was ready for whatever violence that may come his way. Although each of his days had a purpose, continuing on his quest that may or may not end before his death, Jessie felt a certain level of emotional numbness that only being alone could provide him.
Jessie found solitude in his empty heart—solitude that he felt he desperately needed—but not a day went by when he didn’t think back to those whom he had encountered along the way. In this mad and twisted world, devoid of law, order, and the civility that people around the world had come to expect as the norm prior to the great collapse, Jessie knew that there were still good people out there. Good people who would have to face the evil that this lawless and dangerous new world had spawned once the walls of society came crumbling down around them.
As his travels took him east past the Rocky Mountains and through the desert southwest, Jessie encountered the scene of a recent ambush near Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Appearing to him that children may have been involved, he could not simply pass on by without investigating further. Putting his former tactical and law-enforcement skills to use, he soon became both the hunter and the hunted as he resolved to impose justice on those who would betray others in their own quest for power. What his enemies would soon come to realize, however, is that you should never underestimate a man with nothing to lose—especially a man with an unquenched thirst for vengeance—in a society lost.

Jesse Townsend has lost everything and wants nothing but to find his sister in Tennessee. On his trek from Colorado he encounters injustices that he cannot ignore. It is the right thing to do and JT would rather die helping than walking away.

Bird’s second novel in the Society Lost series, Betrayal, JT travels alone lost in dark thoughts that have all but broken him. Willing to be a lone vigilante if needed JT sets out to rescue those imprisoned at the hands of despots. His spirit is renewed once he finds others that will stand along his side against the evils this new society has unleashed.

This book takes good look at how a man can find new purpose in his life. I look forward to reading the next installment of JT’s adventure. It’s a long way to Tennessee.

5 out of 5 stars.

Betrayal

Well. Enjoyed the book. Had allot of religious overtones but one wouldn't catch it if you didn't know the stories, parables of the Bible. I picked a couple...from Judges about Gideon and Ephesians 6. Doing good.

Absolutely love reading apocalypse books with a new and unique spin. Another bonus and I am no prude, no cussing or embarrassing sex scenes. A good story the whole family could read.

Enjoy the book as much as I.

I liked this better than the first book; much less mysticism and fugues and more action but with a dose of morality and doing-the-right-thing. Jessie has a tendency to pontificate a little too much and there is still some religious overtone there but it is tolerable. The bad guys were very one dimensional, but it is satisfying when they get what is coming to them. Leina kind of exits in an anti-climatic fashion but that may have been the best way.

Great Read

This 2nd book in Society Lost takes Jessie into direct contact with the good, the bad, and the ugly. I love that his courage is mixed with a "devil may care" attitude; Jessie has been there, done that so he goes all out to help the defenseless with no stopping. Evil is always lurking though.

the hero continues..
Jessie is joined by Leina who is a hero in her own right, love hearing the continuation of Jessies
travels and adding Leina's into the mix just makes it so much better, draws you into their world
and makes you feel like you belong..

Great

I enjoyed this second book very much. I enjoy reading about characters that always think about helping others over even saving their own life. Looking forward to reading the next book.

The second in the Society Lost series does not disappoint. Since I am in the middle of a bible study I caught a few parallels to Old Testament stories, but they weren’t obvious! Love that I can recognize those in my favorite books. I can’t wait to catch up with Jessie’s travels in the next book.

Getting better

I almost didn't read this, the second book in the series. The first was to dark and maudlin. This book started out the same, but got better.

This second book in a new series by Steven Bird keeps the action going and does not disappoint!

As Jessie continues on his journey, hoping to find his sister, he hears the all too familiar sounds of gunshots. Searching the area the next day, he finds signs of what appears to be an ambush. Such is the way of the world now....but it looks like there were kids involved.... No one, no matter how desolate their life may be has any right to subject children to harm. And former sheriff Jessie Townsend will make sure it's stopped.

For a man who's firm in his beliefs, others will learn. For a man who's lost everything, others will comply to justice....or die. He's on the road to find his sister, but children and victims will not be ignored.

A book of action, intensity and brutal sacrifices made for moral rightness and the survival of humanity. An exciting read and an excellent addition to this series. I just don't want to wait for more! Well done!

Another must read!

Steven Bird continues his story of Sheriff Jessie Townsend in his fast paced, action packed style. Jessie gets side tracked from the search for his sister when he discovers an ambush of travelers seeking a safe haven. He discovers a town where the law enforcement force has turned into a vicious gang of predators who prey on innocent outsiders lured with the promise of safety, as well as holding the town hostage. An honest lawman like Jessie can't let that go unanswered. His battle for the innocent victims keeps you turning the pages to find how he does. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book!

“Never underestimate a man with nothing to lose, especially a man with an unquenched thirst for vengeance, in a society lost.” I couldn’t help myself; the quote fit the book so perfectly I had to borrow it. We continue to follow Jessie in his search for his sister. Jessie’s despair follows wherever he goes. As he travels he pits himself against wrong doers, looking for justice in a world of chaos. I wonder if Jessie is enduring some form of death wish, seeking to punish himself for surviving his family; surviving the ordeal without reason. A depressing tale to be sure.

Pick Your Battles

Not quite as much action in this book as some of the others, but the characterization is constantly growing and evoving. The victims are seeing ways they can restore some law and order by trusting one another and working together. Steven is so smart and knows his guns and other weapons. Looking forward to Book 3!

Great Read

Great story for anyone who is a fan of SHTF stories. Action, detail, and believable characters make this a book you don't want to put down until the end.
The only disappointment was that it did end, all too quick.
