#GlassGardens by #MelanieFlorence .. Contrary to its title, this book is mostly air plants and designs. I was hoping for more of a focus on terrariums, and details that are less than Google-able, but it turns out this book is really for the folks who want to dive into a new and unknown territory with a light guide, not technical details. I appreciate the authors candor, and the encouragement to jump in and learn as you go, but the lack of expertise was disappointing.
I wanted a guide on the basics needed to get started and some design inspo, and this book definitely aims to fit that. I do wish it had been organized a little more clearly though – like aeriums, then terrariums, or by types of plants.
The entries were also really repetitive and not very helpful or authoritative. The author called herself a klutz at least a dozen times; once was bad enough. If she's not an expert on the subject why did she write a book about it? Even if she feels like she's not, fake it!
Lastly, a book that you get for inspiration should have fantastic photos and these were very amateurish. The terrariums did not look as awesome as I'm sure they do in real life.
This was cute and simple. It is not really detailed if you are looking for specifics on plants, but it is a great guide on giving ideas of how to make little gardens (terrariums, aeriums, and aquariums). It is not really a difficult read, and unless you are making a specific terrarium shown, the main thing is the fact there are lots of colorful pictures. Each suggested terrarium has a picture, which is great. I really liked this book and I would recommend it to people.
I read this in a few hours. The writing is very informal yet interesting. I'm giving this book five stars for the simple reason that it inspired me to make a terrarium, something I had no though of or desire to do beforehand.
Lots of inspiring ideas for planting in glass containers but not too much on long term care or how long they'll last. I think this is a great project book if you're okay with replacing your plants as needed.
