A family curse turned occupation, a merman in her tub and a mage in her phone. Soph’s life just gets weirder.
Being raised as the Cursed One does things to a person. It changes your relationships and makes you a very paranoid young woman. This is how Sophy ends up in her fourth decade, looking eighteen and having no love life.
The Mage Guild provides her with a liaison so that she can stop calling to rummage through their archives, and the voice in the machines around her becomes an admirable partner, such as he is.
He files a request with her to assist him in his own personal journey, and it takes her into the Guild Hall to face a mage who wants her as a trophy. She isn’t impressed, but gets what she needs and gets out of there.
A cursed object that calls to her is part of her plans for the next few days, but the arrival of the body that belongs to the voice throws things into chaos.
Magnus has spent years in amber, waiting to be released by a request from a woman he hasn’t slept with. He was born a warrior centuries earlier and is a legendary mage in his own right. He has one major concern, and it involves figuring out the strange pull and repulsion he feels when the Cursed One is around.
Demons, mages, old scores, and cursed objects swirl around the DeMonstre family, and Sophia is first and foremost the Monster Baiter.
Arrgghhh, I sure do hate it when they end a book like that!!
I've been so engrossed in reading MONSTER BAITER that I almost missed a very important Doctor's appointment...tsk.. BUT ALL is well as soon as I have the next book in the series to read..tap, tap, tap goes my foot waiting to read about the DeMonstre family again..Okay
I like this story but it's missing something. I think this author writes really interesting stories but because of their brevity stops just short of greatness. A shame cause she's really talented.
This story was fantastic. The Cursed One was a lovely story. The interactions between characters was entertaining and the characters themselves were engaging and entertaining. The storyline was interesting and intriguing.
Like all of her books, Viola Grace has another great book in this one. Great characters, world building, and plots. I will read anything she writes, even a cook book! Thank you so very much!
She could use more contractions, and to learn how to use a semicolon, but her characters are interesting, so is the world, and her sense of humor is fun. This one had almost no mystery for me--I saw each 'twist' coming, but still enjoyed it enough to finish it.
It was a cute short story. Yes I know it’s a book, but when you can read it in 35 minutes it’s a short story. Almost 5 decades old and still a virgin. How the hell does that happen?! Basically this is the magical version of a lonely woman writing letters to a prison inmate for years then suddenly meeting him. Only difference, he’s not guilty of a real crime and she’s not delusional. All in all, I actually did enjoy it. But I just wished it had more depth to the character conversations.
I love the obscure magic series and this is book 6. Sophy is older than than she looks and is now the cursed one who stops cursed objects from doing.harm to humans and others. Magnus is the soul that the mage guild has given her so that she will leave their archives alone and still have the knowledge she needs to to the job of the cursed one. When she requests the body to go with the soul she is surprised to learn that now she is the guardian and responsible for this mage and what he does. Little does she know that the cursed object she is doing research on is part of his history too. And let's not forget mothers who want grandchildren and the behind the scene antics they get up to. I love this Canadian author and the way her mind weaves stories together.
I love this series. Sophy DeMonstre, the cursed one. A curse breaker and accountant. Magnus is a powerful mage, currently doing time frozen in amber, for his playboy ways. When Sophy needs a research assistant, Magnus is pressed into service, well his brain is. A fun, light story, with some old favorites making appearances. Can't wait for the next book!
