While on vacation, Annie begins a scandalous affair with Braxton Cage, a crime syndicate underboss hiding behind the facade of an upstanding businessman. She knows he's dangerous, but his secrets and power allure her; she's not so innocent herself. They fall hard and fast for each other, but at the end of the week she knows it's time to go home. The fantasy can't last forever. If he felt the same, maybe things would have turned out different. Maybe he wouldn't have had to break her. Maybe love isn't patient, or kind.
**Disclaimer: Due to graphic sexual and violent situations, this book is intended for mature audiences only. Full length standalone novel.
I LOVED this book! For the person who was criticizing because it contained violence and adultery.....seriously? Why did you keep reading it if it was too harsh for you?
Caged is fast-paced, twisty and intriguing. I was completely surprised at some points. Definitely not predictable!
DNF@67%. I can't take it any more. I have tried to slug through this. I let it go that the author wrote in one of my biggest no, no cheating.. I still read then she crossed the line and made the "hero" a tad too far gone to like, but I still read. Then she crossed another line of I am pissed at you and we have punishment sex. Then to top it off he justifies it. " I am not mad any more." It doesn't stop there he just keeps getting crazier and darker.
The heroine wasn't any better, cheating, leading the hero on, acting all perfect but then acting like a gangster herself by making the "hero" angry by coming on to another guy and he kills him and then she gives him a BJ with the dead body right there...I could go on she did much more, but enough said.
Well well well...Brilliant one .... . It is definitely not a mc one, saving a damsel or a typical mob boss story. In this book no one is perfect. It really did surprised me till the end. I can't wait to read shanna's next book.
Over the past couple days I have been reading a few mafia romance books. Because I wanted a good dark mafia romance. Well, the few that I've finished were good. But they didn't give me the dark that I wanted. But this book? It gave me everything I was looking for!
Annie and her friends go on vacation to NYC. Annie has been in a funk as of late and she decides that a vacation is absolutely what she needs to be able to get back on track with her life. While in The City, her friends and her partake in a bachelorette party card game where they each get some cards with tasks they have to complete while they're out at bars. Well, Annie's first card is to buy a drink for the hottest guy in the bar. And that happens to be Braxton Cage.
Annie buys a "blowjob" shot for Braxton and writes a little message on a napkin for the waitress to give to him when she delivers the shot to Brax. Then Annie and her friends leave that bar and move on with their vacation. Well, by some coincidence Brax sees Annie entering a Starbucks the next morning where he decides he wants her and he makes it his mission throughout the entire book to get her.
Brax is a mob boss. He runs the MO3 that is based out of NYC. He is infamous while also remaining to keep his identity a secret. But he tells Annie of everything about himself and the MO3. And all the while she's lying to him about who she is. Brax has never lied to her. He has always been honest about how brutal he is. And Annie sees that first hand a few times throughout the book. Annie has so many secrets and lies spinning around her that you can't help but get caught up in them just like Brax does.
There was so much betrayal, so many lies, so many half-truths. There was rape and half-consent. It was a seriously in depth story. And I enjoyed the hell out of it. And that ending! You don't expect it. And it hits you right in the face and then the book ends and you're like holy fucking shit that just happened.
My only complaint was that the chapters were seriously long as all hell. It ALWAYS takes me so much longer to finish books with long chapters and this one was no different. I could convince myself to stay up a little longer when my Kindle tells me that the next chapter is only 11 minutes. But when it tells me the next chapter is 47 minutes I always put it off. But otherwise this book was soooo good.
THE BLURB OF THIS BOOK DID THE TRICK OF INTRIGUING ME, BUT WHEN I ACTUALLY GOT TO READING THE STORY....IT WAS UNEXPECTED AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY FOR ME.
I cannot go into details about the characters as I left the book halfway but know that the characters aren't nice or GOOD at all, which is fine because at least we know what we are getting into. I had no complains with them being that, but some of their perks are still irritating.
I had no idea that the heroine is married lol the way she acted in the first few chapters gave me no clue. Sure we had an inkling that she was either running from something in the guise of a holiday or hiding some secret. The whole cheating thing doesn't bother me, because I know that somehow the H/h is going to end up together anyhow, why bother?
The heroine, is not my favorite really. She's pretty sick in the head for a psychologist (umm hello, would you even pay to sit down with a psychologist like her if you knew what she did in her spare time?) and this entire story just rubs me the wrong way - morally. Her husband is a nice man, but I guess deep down she craves a dominant man, who ISNT NICE and TREATS HER A LITTLE LIKE SHIT, because she's a masochist. Ugh I don't know! I have mixed feelings about this damn book but none of them were pleasing.
I guess this story is A HIT OR MISS for readers. It's a MISS for me.
PS : To those who think that my review is unfair, I'm sorry you don't agree but hey, I'm entitled to my opinions and moral beliefs. AND I DID MENTION I DROPPED THE STORY, SO WHY ARE YOU GIVING ME SHIT WHEN I ADMIT IT'S NOT A STORY FOR ME? I'm not even judging you for loving this story, so please respect mine when I feel that the characters' behaviour is my hard limit. I enjoy fucked up or dark stories, but I also have the right and freedom to deem whether or not they're MY KIND OF DARK FUCKED UP SHIT.
*****2.5 stars**** I thought this book was a diamond in the rough. For some reason, I assumed it did not have a lot of reviews because it was never given a chance and it was probably a good book. I was wrong. First of all, it was veryyyyy lonnng. I kept thinking things were going to get interesting but I cant say it did. It just continued on that flat tone.
I think the book did a very good job describing obsessive behavior and the hero didn't come off as a pretentious criminal. He was a legit criminal with no conscience. With this kind of hero, the book could have been really good but a lot of unnecessary stuff showed up. You could slash this book in two and the point would still come across.
Some shocking moments and a minor twist that I didn't see coming but the book was not that exciting so it didn't matter that much to me.
Wow, I'm surprised I finished this lol. It was really long, way longer than it should have been, and I pretty much hated the main characters Brax and Annie. They were terrible people who kept hurting each other and others in their lives. This book was pretty dark, it had murder, rape, cheating, and kidnapping. I do think they deserved each other in a twisted sort of way. I liked Trevor, although he was a bad friend. Keith was a victim in all this, although not completely innocent either. The more I read, the more I needed to know what happened and that's what pushed me to finish. For a higher star review, I would've liked it to be shorter overall, with shorter chapters and maybe a bit more of an epilogue.
This book was an amazing rollercoaster ride. I couldn't put it down. I thought I knew what was happening then it completed surprised me. It was dark and lovely. Read this book today!! I loved and hated Braxton. I really liked Annabelle.
All the raunchy sex isn’t what I’m used to reading, but other than that there’s a lot that makes it an interesting story. The main characters are just nuts.
Loved the story. My only complaint was the fact that the entire week of Annie's stay in NY was extremely over-explained.
However, I do love the fact that the "bag/good guy" was never truly changed into some soft "good guy". Those get boring fast.
I'm not a romance kind of reader unless it's Paranormal Romance, as there is always violence and dominance in them. Not violence toward women.
But, I wanted to try something different, something dark.
It was the Disclaimer that sold me.
I didn't finish reading the blurb as I could tell right away that it was a huge spoiler. So, I only knew about the vacation to NY.
However, other than the extremely long over-explanation of the vacation? It was good. I almost quit reading quite a few times because of the beginning being extremely over-explained.
But, I decided to continue on. I got rewarded was a very dark story.
OK! First of all, this book was not boring, I found myself wanting to go back to it because it was crazy. That being said, I never thought I would read a book where I hated the main characters, yet here we are. I did not like either of them; they were both horrible people in my opinion, but I guess that made it an interesting reading experience for me as well. Also, the word is “STARED”, not “STARRED”, as in “He stared at her.” I would have been able to let this go had I seen it only once, but i saw it a few times, so someone does not know the difference, and it bothered the hell out of me every time I saw it. There were a few other mistakes similar to that throughout the book, so I think someone dropped the ball in the process of writing, editing, publishing, I don’t know...
Lastly, this book is very sexually explicit, violent, and abusive. It doesn’t bother me, but if these are things you can’t handle reading, or don’t want to read about, then I would pass on this one.
I would definitely read another book by this author.
Not for the faint hearted readers. It definitely deals with sensitive issues. I can understand why many readers have problems reading it. For me, it was a delectable treat. It was fast paced and thrilling. Best part of the book is that the writers keep you guessing and proving you wrong. I can't believe that this is the only book of these writers on goodreads. Write more girls! What are you waiting for
I don't write a ton of reviews, but this book is so amazing and since it is a first time author - here I am!
This book was so unlike anything I have ever read before. It had so many twists and turns. So much stuff happened that I didn't expect. Plus it was HOT!
Loved the characters, the plot, and the writing.
If you like dark romances, but find many of them the same story over and over - you should check this out.
One of the best books I have read as part of my kindle unlimited subscription.
The only disappointment was that the author doesn't have any more books I can read.
Great dark romance. The heroine got a bit on my nerves with her wishy washy behavior but not enough to totally piss me off. The H is awesome. Completely crazy and possessive. LOVED THAT! This is a bit of a longer read with the first half being drama filled but there were parts in the second half that actually had me cracking up. Wished the ending was a little more fleshed out but I would still recommend it for those who love a dark romance with a crazy psycho hero.
I found this out of luck and I thought I will read it for experience. What I knew from the beginning was the cheating part. I don’t agree with cheating, and even if you do it i believe your spouse deserves the truth from you (not anyone). However I went against that judgement and read the book. The part one of the book was typical roman between a mob and a normal civilian (nothing unusual and VERY PREDICTABLE. But other readers said this book was not predictable, I don’t know man, each and every situation I could analyse expect for the part when Jason was gay. Dame that surprised me 😂) The part two of the book, I had a huge expectation and it was fulfilled at certain parts. That character “Keith” was great. I liked him a lot. Its not because of pity or cause he is other guy (I always fall of the other guy) it because of how he treated Annie and his morals plus his scarifies. I loved how he thought. It was practical for me. And what Annie did to him, I thought it his karma you know for what he did in college. Guys got to learn. The character “Annie” was kind of a disappointment towards the end. When her occupation was revealed I was excited you know how she could he him run his mob or work together. But man this girl is uptight. I could understand her up bringing and parents were a part of it but then when she final was loose, she started to act like a lunatic. All the time I was like where is your psychological mind. She jumped to conclusions to fast, assumed a lot and didn’t wait to analysis anything.🤷🏻♀️ The character “ Bratx” I found him weak (I agreed with benny ) He was pathetic, immature and behaved irrational all the time. I think he need Annie psychology method more then her love 😂😂😂😂. He was also to quick to jumpy to conclusions (but can’t blame him. Annie did fucked him up after part one) but still sometimes it’s different.
The only thing I liked about this book was their passion for one another. That was good. It was something different for me (but boring) and my curiosity how it will end. So two star. What I disliked was that in the book words means Nothing to this character. That was disappointment. There was no loyalty in any of the character introduced in this book. Everything was fake and lying 🤥 was ALOT.

This book is not for the faint of heart. If you like stories where the main characters are nice people or have decent morals this is not the story for you. Of you like a psychological romance thriller that gives you a peak at what a real genuine unhealthy relationship where there is no good guy. No victims. It starts off as a typical girl meets guy in bar but it keeps escalating. And you think there are lines that people can't cross but this book will surprise you. The story it self is simple the guy wants the girl. What sets it apart from all other romance is what the guy is willing to do to the girl to get her. I think it was brilliantly written in 3rd person. I think the pacing was good. The thing is this book is about 2 characters that are sociopaths. At the very least have sociopathic tendencies. So normal people would react to stressful situations like violence or murder a specific way. But in this story you don't get that. So this may throw a few people off when certain parts of the story that deal with murder , its just hurried over like no big deal. There is no remorse or regrets. Even when it comes to handling fear it isn't done the way you expect. So reading the story everything is a little bit off, but thats on purpose. Honestly I'm tempted to just do a case study on the 2 main characters. Its just a very interesting read. If you are looking for genuinely dark and twisted with little remorse you will enjoy this. Like it says in the story the main character is not prince charming and she is certainly not Cinderella.
Excuse THE FUCK out of me, but when you go cheat on your husband and had just had sex with another man you don't call your husband and tell him "I love you" !!
What a fucking bitch !!!
I would've understood if B tried to send some signs to her husband that she was unhappy by not calling him as often and refusing to call him sweet things or "I love u". But instead, she tells one man, Brax that she wants him and then tells her husband that she loves him. WHERE IN THE WORLD DOES THIS SIT RIGHT WITH ANYONE??!
No, after hearing B tell her husband that she loves him more than a few times while he is all sweet and cute to her (not knowing she only thought about Brax) I threw the book out if the window and said fuck it. Cheating is one thing, but like Brax tried to tell B over and over again "THE PROBLEM IS BEING A MOTHER FUCKING LYING BITCH".
I can't accept B's reasons, even if they may be good (cheating is never ok but this is fiction so we close our eyes and continue listening). You don't tell a sweet guy that you love him while fucking someone else. Want to cheat? Do it. Want to leave? Do it. Want a change? Go for it. BUT DON'T YOU EVER START TALKING OUT OF YOUR ASS, SAYING THINGS LIKE "LOVE" WHEN YOU KNOW YOU DON'T MEAN ANY OF IT😐
I just.................In the beginning it was wonderful, I loved it. Captivating, and exciting. Then it just dragged & dragged. Also can we talk about the amount of homophobia? Abuse? Like, people made a stink about 50 shades of grey being abusive, but Braxton Cage is a capital A for Asshole. His unruly behavior isn't even attractive at points, he just acts like a bratty child who isn't getting their way. It isn't unrealistic to have an affair with someone on a vacation - but it is unrealistic to fall so madly in love with someone you would kill them/their husband/anyone who crosses them. The amount of times he almost kills her, or considers killing her, just for the dumbest things is insane. I know the book does have trigger warnings, etc etc. but I don't think they do justice how much senseless violence is in this book.
w a y too long - I literally skipped reading the entire ending because it was so drawn on, only to find out at the end keiths new girl was pregnant? slap in the face.

Not a great read, I found it far too long. The first chapter was about the h going home, followed by the events leading up to her going home. I found that it was highly unnecessary, when the reader knows she leaves from the start. So ended up skimming most of part 1.
Part 2 could have been good found there was quite a few subplots, which took away from the main story of Brax & Annie. I also thought the Author spent touch time having Brax make threats but never following through.
There wasn't much of a mafia/mob theme except for the very end & occasionally mentioning the H is a killer & head of a crime syndicate. I found the book to fit more into the obsessed/Stalker genre then mafia genre
I found the book kinda hard to review. The MCs were incredibly unlikable. I mean they were just gross human beings. Not only this but the foreshadowing was AWFUL. I knew all the secrets way before they were revealed.
I can’t really put my finger on what kept me emotionally invested, but I was. I was stilled tickled pink when Carter’s identity was revealed. Although I think the author could use a better editor, I enjoyed her voice. Wow her mind went to some dark places. I don’t know maybe I’m just a sucker for pain.
the only reason this book is not a 1 star is bc the storyline was gripping. Besides that, the characters and their actions were too shitty to get past. They are both TERRIBLE people. This book was filled with outdated ideologies and I was actually DISGUSTED by their actions. He actually slapped and 🍇 her. He had her beaten and kidnapped, to scare/manipulate her into staying. She got someone sent to jail on false r*pe charges. She also excuses all his transgressions.
I was not going to write a review but the last 6 pages hit me like a freight train. This book was COMPLETELY fucked up and ENTIRELY unpredictable and I LOVED it. I devoured it. It’ll be one of those books I can’t stop thinking about for a few days and will think about in passing at least once a month guaranteed. Just… wow. Wow. WOW.
