Note: an earlier, shorter version of this book, written under a different pen name, exists in the form of Defending Serenity.
He'll get his revenge, one way or the other... The one righteous act of Trace Graham's life cost him ten years in prison, and now that he's out he's looking for a little payback. His fury has one focus, the woman whose life he'd defended that long ago night, Serenity Lynn Jameson. She's spent a decade atoning for her father's sins... Police detective Lynn Jameson has her hands busy with a missing person and drug smuggling case. The last thing she needs is Trace bulldozing his back into her life. She knows better than to get involved with a recently released convict, even if his touch is something she's dreamed of for years. Opposites attract...or do they collide? As things heat up between them, Lynn's investigation paints a target on her back and Trace has to decide how far he's willing to go for revenge and love.
Elle Wylder writes erotic contemporary romance about bad boys and sexy alphas. She lives and writes in the balmy South. When she isn’t gardening, cooking, or herding kids she dreams of the good life on the beach. Little drink umbrellas and hot cabana boys required.
Elle also writes erotic science fiction romance and paranormal romance as Loribelle Hunt.
This is an erotic romance and I have no business tagging it with three stars at all. I'm not that fond of the story or the characters for that matter, and I think the premise is somewhat trite. Well, the "but" comes with a heaping side of tone. I fell for the tone the author adopted. The he-thinks - she-thinks structure is laid out in two very distinct but stark voices, no frills, no flowery words. Simple, naked language. It does get to you, if you let it, because it's raw and it feels genuine.
This was pretty freakin' awesome!!! I LOVED Trace!!!! All the Graham boys are ABSOLUTELY DROOLWORTHY!!! *SQQQUUUUUUUEEEEEE* Can't wait for Walker and Grace's story next!!!
An enjoyable story capped at three stars, due primarily to a substantial need for proofreading but also to a sex scene that involved something about which every couple should have a conversation first IMHO (as opposed to consent presumed through orgasmic haze) and to a rather ridiculously fast character arc and plot resolution. Do be aware that the story is predominantly erotica so the plot feels somewhat token; don't expect any great tension/revenge/crime as implied in the synopsis and just enjoy this for what it is.
Trace Graham spent ten years in prison for defending the woman he didn’t dare love. The town bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, he didn’t need or want anything good in his life, especially when that good came in the form of a cop. One moment of weakness cost him ten years, and now he plans on making her pay. Lynn Jameson has spent the years atoning for sin. One night of passionate might-have-been and its consequence was enough to teach her to distrust sentiment. As a recently appointed no-nonsense detective dealing with a smuggling ring in her small Alabama hometown, the last thing she needs is Trace showing up back in her life. This book was a bit different than i normally read. But i enjoyed it. It took me awhile to get into it, and about the time i did, it was over. It's not one i would read again, but i obviously couldn't not finish it. 4 stars just because of the ending.
