This book had two stories, the first one Denim and Diamonds. It was well written, but full of misunderstandings, miscommunication, and stubbornness. Chase and Letty used to be an item. But Letty leaves for California for a singing career. Nine years later, she doesn’t have a singing career, but she does have a daughter, Cricket. Letty has to have heart surgery, but she decides not to tell anyone, which results in misunderstandings. Chase realizes what is happening when he follows Letty to a doctor appointment. Chase wants to get married because if anything happens, he would raise Cricket. The surgery is successful, but afterward Chase thinks that Letty is going to leave him again! Stubborn Letty decides to leave because she is so mad at Chase, until the truth comes out. Chase sold part of his land to pay for the surgery. Very unfortunate, since Letty was able to get government insurance. Chase tells Letty he loves her, obviously, and they live happily ever after.
We never know what happens with Lonny and Joy Fuller. They obviously have feelings for each other but all Lonny does is make snide remarks and argues with Joy.
A Cold Creek Reunion - this story had similarities with the previous one such as long lost loves who left and are coming home. Their children also happen to really really like the men their mom’s left behind. In this story, Taft is very willing and eager to love Laura’s two children, even if he’s not their father. Laura has come back to Idaho after her husband, who happened to be cheater, has been killed along with his mistress in a boating accident. Taft, fire chief, sees Laura when there was a fire at her mom’s inn, accidentally started by Laura’s son, Alex. By the way, Alex is only 6 in the story but says and does things like he’s at least ten.
Laura and Taft continually run into each other, not only because it’s a small town, but because he is doing repairs at the inn and his sister, Caidy, invites Laura and her children to go horseback riding.
Laura has mixed feelings about Taft. She was the one who called off their wedding ten years ago because Taft wasn’t in the right frame of mind to be getting married soon after his parents were murdered. Spending more time with Taft, and especially Taft saving her children from drowning in the river makes Laura realize she’s in love with him and wants to spend the rest of her life with him especially in his newly built cabin that Laura happened to design when they were dating.
