Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.
With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.
The old Marvel monster stories were fun and crazy. The new stuff was a real drag, except for the Hulk stuff. Most of the modern stories included were filled with unlikable characters and far too many quips and just dragged on. The Totally Awesome Hulk stories on the other hand were fun and breezy and some great art.
I read some of this stuff as individual issues and some of the older material in other anthologies, but this is still a fun tie-in with the rest of the Monsters Unleashed crossover event. And I love the chance to see some classic Jack Kirby monster art in higher quality formats. If you enjoyed the core mini-series, treat yourself to seeing how it all began with this collection.
I love monsters and I love old sci-fi. With the added bonus of a ton of Jack Kirby art and you’ve got a winner. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is they added some more modern comics at the end that just don’t flow with the classic stuff.
This was a fun romp through old Marvel monster stories! I love the way they used to write the dialogue for them and Jack Kirby's artwork. A few more modern tales added at the end as well!
